Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief October 29, 2022
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TARGETED KILLINGS OF TTP LEADERS REPORTED IN AFGHANISTAN – A foreign source with knowledge of the situation reported that 2 senior Commanders of Tehreek-e-Taliban had recently been assassinated in Kandahar and Nangarhar Provinces respectively. In both incidents, the gunmen responsible for the killings were unidentified. Pro-Taliban social media sites have claimed it is the work of ISIS-K, but no proof was provided. No further information was available.

  • HAQQANI / BARADAR RIFT WIDENS – As more information becomes known about the suicide bombing of the Al-Fatah Mosque (Ministry of the Interior) on 5 October, the evidence is beginning to point to a targeted assassination attempt of Sirajuddin Haqqani. Several local outlets have continued to report that the Minister had left the Mosque minutes before the explosion. While most have attributed the attack to ISIS-K, some analysts are speculating it may have a more inter-factional dimension than previously thought. While we have yet to fully analyze the recent appointments made across the Taliban regime, a cursory examination suggests that most of the appointees are thought to be loyal to the Kandarhari/Baradar faction of the Taliban.

  • PAKISTAN’S FORMER PM AND HIS LONG MARCH – Former Prime Minister Imran Khan led a large number of his supporters from Lahore to Islamabad to demand early elections be held. While the protest is being couched as a peaceful one, the memory of the violence that broke out during a similar march in May seems to have provoked the sitting Government to take serious security precautions. The number of visible police along the route of the march and in Islamabad is said to be nearly double that of what was employed in May. Khan has promised to avoid areas where supporters could clash with police but with the sheer numbers involved and heightened tensions, it could easily get out of hand. At-risk Afghans sheltering in Pakistan are advised to remain off the streets and far away from any potential flashpoints between police and demonstrators. In addition, some at-risk Afghans and evacuation groups have reported major disruptions to cellular communications and internet access. The duration of the protests is currently not known but it is likely that many protesters will remain in Islamabad over the coming days.

  • POSSIBLE MOSQUE BOMBING IN KABUL – Early reporting indicated a blast had taken place at the Sheikh Mohammad Rouhani Mosque (5th Police District) on Friday afternoon. The Taliban seemed to confirm the news but did not provide details on the numbers killed or injured. Unconfirmed accounts of the explosion say that between 7 and 10 worshippers had been injured. No group had immediately taken credit for the attack and no additional details were available.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Panjshir: NRF forces were active in Annaba (Faraj Valley), conducting simultaneous attacks on two Taliban security posts. Casualties were reported at both security checkpoints, but an accurate accounting was not available.

NEXT 24 HOURS
PAKISTAN SITUATION – Using May’s event as a guide, it seems clear that some of Khan’s supporters will likely stay in Islamabad to continue protests over the next several days. While there was not much residual violence from the previous march, things could be different this time and at-risk Afghans are encouraged to maintain situational awareness before venturing out and/or exposing themselves.

[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • BIZARRE SPATE OF APPOINTMENTS MADE – Afghanistan observers are puzzled over the recent appointments to senior positions across the de facto government. In nearly every case, those appointed appeared to be unqualified to administer the various departments and agencies under their purview. The appointments seem to fly in the face of the Supreme Leader’s recent edicts about placing competent and qualified personnel in positions of administration. Our analysis indicates the lack of expertise will hobble efforts to get programs and institutions back up and running effectively, further exacerbating the humanitarian and financial crisis.

  • BRAZEN ATTACK IN HERAT – Sources within the Resistance have indicated the attack in Herat is a harbinger of what can be expected during the upcoming Winter months. A vehicle was fired upon by unidentified gunmen and 5 Taliban (or contracted employees of the Taliban) were killed. The vehicle was known to belong to the 207th Corps, stationed in Herat and conflicting information has been received concerning the identities/occupations of those killed. The official release said they were contracted healthcare workers who provided services to the 207th Corps. Regardless, the attack was carried out in daylight and in the heart of the city. While we have witnessed several bombing incidents take place in urban areas during daylight hours, attacks by multiple gunmen have been a rarity. The sources suggested these attacks may be more common as the weather turns cold.

  • NANGARHAR LAND REFORM COMMITTEE MEETS – The group charged with coming up with a land redistribution plan met for the first time and local observers expressed concern over the lack of representation in the group for ethnic/religious minorities represented in the Province. One local source who claims to have seen the notes of the meeting believed the plan was likely going to end in violence as many of the areas identified would require forcible eviction of the current property owners.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kandahar: An unknown group is said to have ambushed a vehicle column, and claim to have killed Mohammad Akbar Haqqani, a senior Taliban leader in the province. The ambush is believed to have taken place in the first police district, killing 3 Taliban. This information is unverified.
Herat: 5 Taliban were killed when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a Taliban convoy of the 207th Corps in Herat. The Taliban announced that those killed were medical personnel assigned to the unit.

Mosque Explosion in Afghan Capital Injures 7 People
The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
security authorities said that a kaboom that took place at a mosque in Kabul, the Afghan capital, resulted in the injuries of 7 people.
The spokesperson of the Taliban police chief office in Kabul, Khalid Zadran, said that the earth-shattering kaboom took place at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, October 28, in the Sheikh Mohammad Rohani Mosque.

The explosion took place in Kabul city’s 5th police district as worshippers gathered at the mosque for Friday prayer and dhikr, according to Taliban security official, Zadran.

"Explosive materials were placed inside the mosque, and it went kaboom! after the Friday prayer," Zadran said.

While the Taliban officials stated that the earth-shattering kaboom injured 7 people, local sources in Kabul reported that at least 10 people were maimed as a result of the detonation of the explosives at the mosque.

This explosion has not yet been attributed to any specific person or organization. The deadliest attacks, however, in Kabul, Kunduz, Balkh, Kandahar, Herat

The ISIS attacks in Afghanistan have long targeted worshipping places, schools, and other public places where people congregate.

Two car bomb explosions at the education ministry in Somalia's capital Mogadishu have killed or wounded scores

Is that a "stock Mogadishu downtown photo"?
Two boom-mobile explosions at the education ministry in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu killed or maimed scores of people on Saturday, police and the state news agency said.
... and if you can't believe the state news agency who can you believe?
It was not known who was behind the blasts but the turban group al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
frequently carries out bombings and gun attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere.

"Two boom-mobiles hit the walls of the ministry," police captain Nur Farah said.

The first explosion hit the ministry then the second blast occurred as ambulances arrived and people gathered to help the victims, Farah told Rooters.

A police officer guarding the ministry, who gave his name as Hassan, told Rooters he saw at least 12 bodies and more than 20 people maimed.

State news agency SONNA, said the blasts had caused "scores of civilian casualties including independent journalist Mohammed Isse Kona."

A Rooters journalist near the blast site said the two explosions occurred within minutes of each other and smashed windows in the vicinity. Blood from victims of the blasts covered the tarmac just outside the building, he said.

"The second blast burnt our ambulance as we came to transport the casualties from the first blast," Abdikadir Abdirahman of the Aamin Ambulance Service told Rooters.

A driver and a first aid worker had been injured in the blast, he said.
Shabelle Media adds:
Mohamed Issa Koona, a TV journalist, who previously worked for Shabelle Media Network is among dozens of people killed in Mogadishu blasts on Saturday.

The TV reporter died while covering an attack targeting the headquarters of the ministry of education in the Zoobe area, where two explosions were heard in the span of 5 minutes.

Hodon district police boss was also among the dead while several other security officials and civilians were wounded in the attack, which becomes the biggest in years.

The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment by ambulances.

Arabia
Video footage shows new Al-Qaeda forces deploying in Yemen
Video footage of a new military batch of al-Qaeda recruits circulated on social media, showing that the new recruits are ready to take part in fighting within the "Tariq Saleh" militias on the west coast.

Activists accused the UAE of recruiting elements of al-Qaeda led by Mohammed Tariq Saleh, the son of military commander Tariq Saleh, whom he gave birth to from his secret marriage to a girl from Raymah province.

The activists added that the terrorist elements led by Mohammed Tariq Saleh were recruited into two battalions within the militias of the so-called "Guardians of the Republic" in the coastal city of Mocha in southwestern Yemen

They pointed out that the terrorist elements received military training for two weeks inside one of the camps in the same port city

The video shows al-Qaeda elements recruited from the west coast and Raymah province in military uniform belonging to the "Guardians of the Republic" militias.

The activists confirmed their intention to publish more videos in the coming hours to show the terrorist organization members slaughtering citizens and prisoners of war.

Foreign oil companies leaving occupied Shabwah province amidst security concerns
Local media revealed on Saturday the intention of foreign oil companies to leave Shabwah province, eastern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, for security reasons.

"Al-Mahariya" TV channel quoted sources it described as private, saying that "the oil companies operating in the oil fields in Shabwah province intend to leave the province due to security concerns."

The sources revealed to "Al-Mahariya" the intentions of foreign oil companies to leave "Janat Hunt" fields and "Al-Uqla" oil field in Ayyath area during the next two weeks, in the event of the persistence of security concerns and the failure to find radical solutions to end the differences with the National Salvation Government in Sana’a.

A few days ago, the National Salvation Government in Sana’a had adopted an attack targeting al-Dhaba port in Shabwah with two drones, while a merchant ship was trying to loot 2 million barrels of crude oil from the al-Uqla oil field, and threatened with targeting foreign companies and naval ships if the looting of oil wealth continues from the Yemeni provinces under the control of the Saudi-led coalition forces.

Bangladesh
In Bandarban operation, Bangladesh targets Muslim militant-hill tribe rebel link
[BenarNews] Bangladeshi security forces have launched a crackdown on a nascent armed tribal group that, officials allege, helped train a budding Moslem Death Eater group in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, a restive southeastern region near the borders with Myanmar and India. The joint campaign by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite police unit, and the army has led to the arrests so far of at least 10 suspected members of the groups, since the operation began on Oct. 10 in one of the remotest areas in Bandarban, a district in the Hill Tracts region, authorities said.

The Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), an armed hill tribe group, made headlines recently as they demanded an autonomous region for the indigenous Kuki people, many of whom now follow Christianity, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). The group’s members posed with weapons for social media posts and YouTube videos.

Officials say they have uncovered a strong link between the national front and what they assert is a newly formed Moslem Death Eater group, Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya (JAFHS).

#1  I'll ask my pal in eastern command to give me the skinny on all this. It's just all too... tribal.

While I would side with the Christians, 'those that are called by his name' and all that, I remember there was something about communists disguising their dogma as charismatic evangelical schtick then organizing militias. They do that here too. And the largely ignorant hindoos and moslems all accept this as part of 'dastardly western christianity'.

#3  The message of a Christ, lover of the deserving have-nots and the evil Empire crucifying him for his socialist ideals. How does a wretch with half knowledge escape that schtick?

With it comes the community living and woven with the imagery of the early church etcetera is preached that 'now they'll be out to get you!' What's more, these local evangelists can even solicit funds and aid from the real evangelical churches abroad, and all they have to do is send them videos of happy children singing onward Christian soldier' and those clueless snobs will pay. Retards without nuance here continue to belive the evil Christians are sowing discord by using tribals. The overall animosity toward Christianity increases as a result.

'It must needs be that offences come, but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!'

Iraq
Less than 24 hours after new Iraqi gov’t installed, hundreds gather in Dhi Qar to protest al-Sudani's government
[Shafaq News] Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in al-Haboubi square downtown Dhi Qar's capital city, Nasiriyah, to protest against Mohammad Shiyaa al-Sudani's cabinet and "the way it was formed".

Yesterday, Iraq's parliament approved the government of Prime Minister Mohammad Shiyaa al-Sudani after more than a year of political paralysis, but the war-ravaged country seems far from reaching safe shores.

Al-Sudani now faces the gargantuan task of delivering on pledges to fight corruption and offer job opportunities to the country's disaffected youth, all while grappling with an unpredictable political opponent.

Shafaq News Agency correspondent said that the demonstrators carried placards and rolled their eyes, jumped up and down, and hollered poorly rhymed slogans real loud denouncing the incoming cabinet and its head.

The demonstrators accused al-Sudani of "getting the country back to square one" with the controversial power-sharing formula that has characterized the consecutive governments that have run the country, and they accuse of undermining the economic and security situation.

In a bid to dispel criticism over his pro-Iran
...The nation is noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence...
political backers in parliament, he has also vowed not to "adopt the polarised politics" of the past that saw Iraq split amongst fiercely rival camps.

The demonstration saw the head of the anti-establishment Emtidad movement, politician Alaa al-Rikabi, and his colleague Falih al-Hilali, among the participants. al-Rikabi, and other parliamentarians in his bloc, were involved in a fistfight with members of the Coordination Framework's bloc.

The oil-rich has for years suffered rampant corruption preventing the adequate distribution of funds, and analysts predict no imminent end to the country's protracted crises.

The Iraqi Army foiled the attack, and the snuffies fled to remote areas. The source explained.

No casualties were reported.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israeli killed, 4 hurt in West Bank terror shooting; medic shot while trying to help
[IsraelTimes] Medic at death's door after arriving to treat victims of attack near Kiryat Arba; Paleostinian man also hurt; gunman rammed by security official, rubbed out by off-duty soldier.

A Paleostinian terrorist opened fire near the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba on Saturday night, killing an Israeli man and wounding four other people, one of them seriously, the military and medics said. The gunman was later rammed by a security official and rubbed out by an off-duty soldier.

The initial shots were directed at a Jewish father and son who had been shopping at a convenience store owned by a Paleostinian, between Kiryat Arba and Hebron.

The father, in his 50s, was critically injured and was later pronounced dead at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital.

The seriously injured man was a medic — Ofer Ohana — who was apparently shot by the attacker as he arrived on the scene to assist the other victims, which included two Israelis — aged 19 and 49 — and a Paleostinian bystander, all of whom suffered mild injuries.

The shooting occurred near the entrance to a Jewish settlement neighborhood in Hebron, known as Giv’at HaAvot. The neighborhood is located just west of the larger settlement of Kiryat Arba.

Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz vowed to take strong action against any others found to be involved in the terror attack.

Ohana, a Magen David Adom medic who reached the scene with another first responder to treat the maimed, was shot by the gunman and seriously hurt, the ambulance service said.

"While I was running to get medical equipment, I heard the medic I was with shout: ’I’m injured, they shot at me,'" said MDA medic Yisrael Lior. "We took cover, and while I was providing life-saving treatment to the medic I was with, we called in additional forces."

A local security officer then reached the scene and rammed the gunman with his car, before an off-duty soldier shot him dead, CCTV footage of the incident showed.

The alleged terrorist was named by Paleostinian media as Muhammed Kamel al-Jabari, a member of the Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, terror group, whose brother Waal had been serving life in Israeli prison before being freed and deported to the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. Strip in the Gilad Shalit prisoner swap deal in 2011.

Images circulated on social media showed that after the attack, sweets were handed to drivers in Hebron in celebration, fireworks were fired, and there were chants heard in support of terror criminal mastermind Muhammad Deif.

Ohana, the medic, who is also in his 50s, was taken to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in the capital was listed at death's door. The other two Israelis were in good condition, according to Hadassah Ein Kerem.

MDA added that its medics treated a Paleostinian man from Hebron, 37, who was lightly injured in the attack. He was taken by the Red Cresent to a West Bank hospital.

In footage shared on social media, gunshots could be heard in the area.

Shortly after the attack, a 27-year-old Israeli was lightly hurt when stones were hurled at his car near the West Bank settlement of Ma’ale Amos, medics said. He was taken to Shaare Zedek with a head injury.

Several hours later, the military said shots were fired toward Israeli troops from a passing vehicle near the Paleostinian town of Bani Na’im, without causing injuries. The soldiers shot back at the button men, who fled by car.

IDF soldiers, Shin Bet operatives and Israel Border Police operated throughout the West Bank on Saturday night, mapping the house of Muhammad al-Jabari, who carried out the Kiryat Arba terror attack on Saturday evening, and preparing it for demolition.

The security forces also arrested three individuals wanted on suspicion of involvement in terror activities, including Jabari's brother. Meanwhile, IDF forces operating in the Jalazone refugee camp arrested two individuals on suspicion of involvement in terror activities and confiscated several illegally acquired weapons.

During the operation, protestors threw stones in the direction of the IDF soldiers, who responded with measures to disperse the rioters. No casualties were sustained by the Israeli forces, and the arrested individuals have been transferred for further investigation.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Defiant Iranians rally again in protests fuelled by 'brutal' crackdown
Iranians erupted into the streets around the country for a second successive night to protest against the killings of youths in a widely documented crackdown on demonstrations sparked by Mahsa Amini's death.

The holy manal state has been gripped by six weeks of protests that erupted when Amini, 22, died in jug after her arrest for an alleged breach of Iran's strict dress rules for women based on Islamic sharia law.

Security forces have struggled to contain the women-led protests that have evolved into a broader campaign to end the Islamic republic founded in 1979.

"This is the year of blood, Seyed Ali will be toppled!" hundreds of protesters chanted in the west Tehran neighbourhood of Chitgar late Thursday, in an online video verified by AFP.

The fresh rallies came as people gathered to mourn young demonstrators killed in the crackdown.

Security forces on Thursday rubbed out at least three protesters in Mahabad and another two in Baneh, both near Iran's western border with Iraq, said Hengaw, a Norway-based human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
group.

Amnesia Amnesty International said "unlawful killings" by Iran's security forces had claimed the lives of at least eight people in four provinces within 24 hours, in a statement late Thursday.

The deadly gunfire came after mourners paying tribute to Ismail Mauludi, a 35-year-old protester killed on Wednesday night, left his funeral and made their way towards the governor's office, it said.

- GOVERNOR'S OFFICE BURNS -
"Death to the dictator," protesters yelled, using a slogan aimed at Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
, as the Mahabad governor's office burned, in an online video verified by AFP.

Other verified footage showed festivities near the grave of 16-year-old Nika Shahkarami, outside the western city of Khorramabad, where dozens of people were marking the end of the traditional 40-day mourning period since she was killed by security forces.

"I'll kill, I'll kill, whoever killed my sister," they could be heard chanting, in a video posted on Twitter by the U.S.-based Human Rights Activist News Agency.

Dozens of men were seen hurling projectiles under fire as they drove back security forces in riot gear on a bridge near Shahkarami's tomb.

The latest demonstrations came despite a crackdown that the Oslo-based Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
Human Rights group says has already killed at least 141 protesters, including more than two dozen children.

At least another 93 people were separately killed during protests that erupted in the southeastern city of Zahedan on September 30 over the reported rape of a teenage girl by a police commander, IHR says.

The protests were held in defiance of warnings from Khamenei and ultra-conservative President Ebrahim Raisi, who appeared to try to link the Amini protests to a mass shooting at a Shiite Moslem shrine in the southern city of Shiraz after Wednesday evening prayers that state media said killed at least 15 worshippers.

But the protests triggered by Amini's death on September 16 show no signs of dwindling, inflamed by public outrage over the crackdown that has claimed the lives of many other young women and girls.
