Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief January 4, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • THE TTP ANNOUNCE THEIR BREAK WITH PAKISTAN AND SET UP A PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT – The TTP took to its official press outlet, The Khorasan Diary, to announce it had formed a government with appointments of several Ministers in Northern Pakistan. A source in Pakistan said the announcement was prompted by counsel from Taliban officials in Afghanistan who have decided their presence in Afghanistan is counterproductive. While estimates about the TTP’s true strength vary widely, most analysts believe they command approximately 7,000 fighters. The government of Pakistan has yet to respond to the announcement but seems intent on eradicating the movement.

  • MORE TO THE FOILED KIDNAPPING ATTEMPT THAN MEETS THE EYE – Police officials announced they had foiled a plot to kidnap a businessman in Kabul on Monday. Security forces gunned the would-be kidnappers down and rescued the businessman. However, a source in the Taliban said the identification cards and documents found on the bodies of the kidnappers indicated that at least two were serving members in the Ministry of Defense and the other two are thought to be employed by other government agencies. The Minister of Defense addressed the security forces and called for greater discipline and instructed the members to prevent ‘unpleasant activities’ in the ranks. It is not clear if his remarks were in response to the kidnapping event or were focused more generally.

  • ULEMA COUNCIL MEETS WITH AKHUNDZADA – Supreme Leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, met with several officials from the standing Ulema council in Kandahar. The subject of the meeting included several references to the work of scholars to validate the Taliban edicts regarding education in the country. However, some observers noted that the attendees included Ulema representatives from Provinces that have historically been allied with Kandahar and other leaders that are thought to be more closely associated with Kabul were excluded. It is possible that Akhundzada was interested in consolidating his support should he face a challenge from either the Minister of Defense or the Interior.

  • CONTROVERSIAL ‘LAND REFORM’ PROGRAM CONTINUES – On 3 January, a Taliban commission gifted approximately 80 acres of agricultural land in Sar-e-Pul Province to residents from Maidan Wardak Province. The Tajik and Uzbek communities in Sar-e-Pul were told that any protests over the move would be dealt with harshly. The land reform program under the Taliban has resulted in a few cases where justice was served but overwhelmingly is viewed by minorities as a method of ethnic cleansing.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • PASSPORT DIRECTORATE MAY REOPEN SOON – In response to a public outcry and significant press coverage, it is believed that the Passport Directorate will be forced to open its doors and begin processing passport applications soon.

  • TENSIONS WITH PAKISTAN ALONG BORDER WILL CONTINUE – We are advising our subscribers that conflict could occur at any time between Pakistan and the Taliban along the border. It is likely this threat will continue for some time and at-risk Afghans should be mindful as they make plans to travel. We will not continue to run this threat in future Daily Evacuation Briefs.

NISA steps up operation to hunt Al-Shabaab in Somalia
[ShabelleMedia] The National Intelligence and Security Agency [NISA] has stepped up its operations against al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
gunnies over the past few days.

The elite NISA forces have intensified their efforts to hunt down al-Shabaab in the south of the country, where the military along with community fighters are making territorial gains.

NISA said it carried out at least 30 cover operations targeting al-Shabaab hideouts and killed dozens of bully boys, including unnamed senior al-Shabaab commanders.

In addition, the spy agency announced that it detained the al-Shabaab terror network in charge of the Mogadishu attacks and it handed them over to the relevant courts.

There have also been al-Shabaab operatives who surrendered themselves to NISA and are under interrogation before being sent to rehab centers in the Horn of Africa country.

Arabia
Dozens of Emirati military vehicles reported heading to city of Ataq
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Dozens of Emirati military vehicles carrying members of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia have been seen heading to Al-Saeed junction, south of Ataq city, the provincial capital of Shabwah province, media loyal to the Saudi-led coalition reported.

The media sources stated that the military mobilisation of the UAE towards the oil areas of Shabwah is aimed to launch a military operation against the militants of the “First Military Zone” in Hadhramaut valley.

Other sources stated that the forces were sent to Shabwah for the purpose of enhancing security in the areas witnessing a tribal movement against the UAE.

However, military observers considered that the Emirati military mobilisation towards Shabwah is due to the coalition’s intentions to escalate militarily against forces of the National Salvation Government in the areas towards Bayda province.

This comes in light of an existing stalemate in the political negotiations as a result of the coalition’s refusal to pay the salaries of employees from the revenues of sovereign oil and gas resources.

French Minister: Only 690 Cars Torched and 490 Arrests Over New Year's
Ever an optimist.
"Cesse de froncer les sourcils"

[Breitbart] French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has touted the fact that only 690 vehicles were set on fire over New Year’s this year, a decrease of around 20 per cent compared to last year.

Minister Darmanin announced that 690 vehicles across France had been set on fire, stating that it was around 20 per cent fewer than last year which saw 874 vehicles set ablaze.

However, Darmanin noted that arrests on New Year’s Eve and early New Year’s Day had increased since last year, totalling 490 detentions, up around eleven per cent, broadcaster BFMTV reports.

The French Minister claimed that “there has been no notable incident” over the New Year celebrations and that some of those arrested had wanted to set their own cars on fire for “insurance scams” while others had been arrested for having mortar fireworks, which are known to be used to assault French police.

Around 90,000 police were mobilized over New Year’s Eve, with Darmanin stating that a “very big effort” had been made by officials, particularly in the Île-de-France region, which contains Paris and suburbs like Seine-Saint-Denis which has been known for having large numbers of car arsons in previous years.

While Darmanin claimed there were no notable incidents, police in several cities were attacked over the course of the evening.

In Nantes, police were attacked by youths armed with mortar fireworks and Molotov cocktails and at least twenty cars were set on fire.

The city of Ain saw police and gendarmes attacked with mortar fireworks after being lured to the Croix Blanche neighbourhood. A group of around 15 youths attacked officers and three were subsequently arrested.

A total of 41 fires were reported in Haute-Garonne, including a fire that broke out in a children’s shelter where five children and an adult were present as the fire started. Those inside the shelter were able to evacuate prior to the arrival of the local fire brigade without injury.

Similar scenes were seen in Bordeaux where two police officers were reportedly injured after attacks, while 15 youths were arrested for incidents of arson and other acts of urban violence.

“Such a sight is lamentable,” a local pensioner said and added, “These young people burn cars provocatively, for fun. They do not think about the owners of these vehicles who no longer have a means of transportation to go to work tomorrow. They must be stopped and punished severely.”

While violence remains a major issue in France during New Year’s celebrations, acts of car burnings are down substantially since they peaked in 2019, which saw 1,457 cars set on fire.

No deaths were reported either, unlike last year, when a man in the commune of Boofzheim near Strasbourg was decapitated due to an accident involving mortar fireworks.

50 migrants in peril rescued by Italy coastguard: Doctors Without Borders
[AlAhram] A charity monitoring migrant boats that follows the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) group in the Central Mediterranean said Monday the Italian coastguard had pulled around 50 people to safety after repeated appeals for help.

Alarm Phone, a hotline used by migrants colonists in distress, tweeted that it was "relieved to confirm that the Italian coastguard has eventually rescued" the people, who had first called for help on Sunday.

There were no further details about those saved.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) had said earlier Monday that it had been alerted by Alarm Phone to a boat with some 45 people in distress.

It said its Geo Barents charity rescue ship would assist them if it came across the boat while it was en route to the port of Taranto.

"We immediately requested permission from the Italian authorities to intervene, but received no reply," MSF press officer Maurizio Debanne said.

"Under international law and maritime conventions, we are obliged to assist those in danger," he said.

Intervening could potentially have pitted the charity against the far-right government and its strict new decree law on rescues at sea.

The charity later said it was no longer looking for the boat.

ORDERS FROM ROME
MSF published a series of tweets earlier Monday making it clear it was only aiding boats after being requested to by Italian authorities.

It also said Rome had asked the Geo Barents in one case not to assist, because the situation was "being managed by Libya". It obeyed.

The new decree law was signed by the president on Monday, and now moves to parliament to be converted into law within 60 days, during which time it can undergo changes.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's hard-right government took office in October, vowing to stop migrant landings in Italia, which reached more than 105,000 in 2022, according to the interior ministry.

She claims migrants colonists and people traffickers are encouraged by the charities which rescue people attempting the perilous crossing from North Africa.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
the charities say they always follow international and national laws regarding saving lives at sea, and slam the new rules as putting lives at risk.

Most of the migrants colonists who arrived in 2022 were rescued and brought to shore by Italian navy or coasties vessels, not charity ships.

At least 20,218 people have died or gone missing on the crossing -- the world's deadliest -- since 2014, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Four Hospitalised After Mass Stabbing at Migrant Hotel in Ireland
In which it is pretty firmly hinted that the migrants in question are most decidedly Moslem colonists rather than the more benign sort.
[Breitbart] Four males are said to have been hospitalised after a mass stabbing event at a migrant hotel in Ireland.

Four males have been brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries in Ireland after a mass stabbing event at one of the country’s many migrant hotels.

Led by an extremely globalist coalition of political parties, the European Union member-state has pursued a radical policy of open borders since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, with around 65,000 would-be refugees and asylum seekers supposedly from Ukraine and beyond arriving in the country this year.

Such a massive influx into a nation of only around five million people has put great strain on resources, with the government rapidly running out of places to house many of the new arrivals, often resorting to contracting out hotels and even using disused office blocks to lodge migrants.

It was reportedly at one of these hotels where the stabbing incident occurred, with the Irish Times reporting that police were called out to the Hotel Killarney at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening local time, which is currently being used as migrant accommodation.

Two men in their thirties are said to have been arrested in relation to the incident, and a forensic investigation is now set to take place at the scene on Monday.

The sudden presence of tens of thousands of migrants — many of whom do not even claim to be Ukrainians — in Ireland has led to significant social disquiet over the past twelve months, with many in the country questioning their government’s willingness to house foreign nationals at a time when many in the country are struggling to afford homes themselves.

Questions have also been raised as to who exactly is being granted permission to stay in the country by state authorities, with one video going viral in the country last week depicting a migrant saying that the Irish will “have to” adjust to the demands made by new Muslim arrivals.

In the video, the migrant who claims to be from Afghanistan expresses annoyance that he and his fellow Muslims are not allowed to cook their own food or have their own Muslim chef while in migrant accommodation.

He later went on to tell Irish Freedom Party leader Hermann Kelly that asylum seekers are not willing to compromise on their religion to fit in with locals.

While saying that migrants were willing to adopt local clothing and language, the migrant stated that “religion cannot be adapted” to the Irish way of life.

“You have to deal with that,” the migrant went on to tell Kelly.
The Irish Times adds:
A number of ambulances and several Garda vehicles on Sunday night attended the scene of what appeared to be a large-scale incident involving suspected stabbings at Hotel Killarney in Co Kerry, a large hotel which is currently being used as a direct provision centre.

The hotel was at the centre of controversy in October after plans by the International Protection Accommodation Services to remove Ukrainian women and children who had arrived in Killarney in March from the hotel and transfer them to Co Mayo to make room for male direct provision applicants.

However after local protests, alternative hotel accommodation was sourced for the Ukrainian refugees and their children in Killarney. About half of the 400 residents at Hotel Killarney now are female direct provision applicants.

India-Pakistan
Bal Krishan used his rifle after 24 years and it helped drive away Pakistani terrorists in Rajouri
The Indian version of Land of the Free is a charming little tale.
[OneIndia] Had it not been for the bravery of this shop owner who used a rifle after 24 years, the catastrophe in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
would have been much worse.

On January 1, in the evening Bal Krishan, 42 had returned home from his cloth shop when he heard gunshots. He picked up his rifle and rushed out when he saw two Lions of Islam moving around in the neighbourhood. He said that they were very near his house. I then opened two rounds of fire and the Lions of Islam panicked and fled to the nearby forests, Bal Krishan said.

Bal Krishan owns a cloth shop at the chowk in Dangri, a village near Rajouri town.

The Lions of Islam had gone on a killing spree and had targeted four homes following which four persons were killed and six others were maimed. They then ran int Bal Krishan, a former Village Defence Committee member. The police and Upper Dangri panchayat sarpanch Darshan Sharma said that had it not been for Krishan's quick thinking the casualties would have been far worse.

After Krishan started shooting the Lions of Islam fled into the forests. This helped the villagers come out and attend to the injured persons, Sharma said.

Krishan was using his gun only for the second time. The first time he used the .303 rifle was in 1998-99 at an arms training camp that was conducted by the Army after he and the other VDC members were given guns by the J&K police. Krishan said at that time they were given the gun and 100 rounds of cartridges each. During the training camp, I used 10 and I was left with 90 bullets.

He said that the the rifle was more of a 'danda' at home in the absence of a licence. He said that it had been unused for 24 years.

The VDCs were set up in 10 districts in Jammu and Kashmir in the mid-90s during the height of terrorism. The VDCs gradually lost their clout amidst allegations of highhandedness and misuse of weapons. Successive governments since 2002 encouraged members to return their weapons.

Krishan said that since he was under 60, the police asked him to submit a passport sized photograph at the Rajouri cop shoppe, so that a gun licence could be issued to him. He said he is yet to get a gun licence. The police asked me to go to the station with the weapon and after examining the same, the gun was returned to me with instructions to keep it clean. He said he never imagined that the weapon would come in handy and help him save so many lives.

Two spies working on terror cases shot dead in Khanewal
[Dawn] In what police claimed an incident of terrorism, two officials of an intelligence agency were rubbed out by an unidentified person in the parking of a roadside hotel in Khanewal district on Tuesday.

(ISI) director Naveed Sadiq and inspector Nasir Abbas were having tea at a roadside hotel on National Highway near Pirowal.

Police said both the officials went to the parking lot [after tea] when an unidentified man shot up them. Both the officials suffered bullet wounds and went titzup.

the attacker riding a cycle of violence expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

A heavy police contingent reached the spot and started collecting evidence from the scene of the crime. The police also launched a search operation in the area to arrest the suspect.

Suicide bomber identified; hunt on for two facilitators
[Dawn] Investigators in the terrorism case in Islamabad have identified the jacket wallah and are searching for two suspects who facilitated him in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Rawalpindi to reach the capital and detonate an bomb on December 23.

Sources close to the Sherlocks told Dawn that there were two controllers of the suicide bomber: one brought him to Islamabad on December 23 and the other, who was present in Rawalpindi, handed him the suicide jacket.

The investigation showed that the suicide bomber had traveled to Mardan from Karak, stayed there overnight along with one of the controllers and then moved to Swabi where they took a vehicle to reach the Pirwadhai bus terminal in Rawalpindi.

So far, it is yet to be established if they had traveled with a ready-to-detonate suicide jacket, because it is very risky and dangerous.

It is believed that there was another controller who was present in Rawalpindi, in the close vicinity of the bus terminal, who brought the jacket to the bomber, the sources said, adding the bomber also made a call after reaching Pirwadhi and talked to someone.

It is suspected that the man to whom the bomber had talked was the one who had arranged the suicide jacket, the sources said.

Earlier, the Sherlocks had found some remains of the bomber from the scene of the crime, including his four fingers.
“And the tip of his nose is under that bench over there, Sarge, along with his right eyebrow.”
“Just add ‘em to the grocery bag, kid. We’ll figure it out when we get all the bits back to the lab.”
Forensic experts succeeded in cleaning the little finger and getting fingerprints from it which resulted in his identification, the sources said. A sim found on the spot also had the same details as those taken from the fingerprints.

The suicide bomber was a native of the Kurram district of KP and has been identified as Saqibuddin, 22, the sources said.
Ahah! We haz a name — granted, only a pathetic little one-namer, but everyone’s got to start some.... oh well, I guess he won’t be working up to anything better now.
Meanwhile,
...back at the cheese factory, there was only one thought in the mouse's mind: I can do this! I can do this! Then the trap sprung...
a man who made a video of Parliament House from Margalla Hills and shared it on social media with the threat of terrorism has been arrested, the sources said. The arrest was made with the assistance of intelligence agencies.

The sources said the arrested person was affiliated with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban

Palestinian boy, 15, dies in Bethlehem crossfire
[AnNahar] Israeli forces killed a child in the West Bank city of Bethlehem on Tuesday, the Palestinian health ministry reported, as Israel said police officers fired on people throwing Molotov cocktails.

The health ministry announced "the death of the child Adam Essam Shaker Ayyad, 15, with a bullet in the chest fired by the occupation soldiers during the aggression on Bethlehem at dawn today."

Israel's military said rocks and Molotov cocktails were thrown at border police officers during an operation in Bethlehem's Dheisheh refugee camp.

"The forces fired toward Molotov cocktails (sic) hurlers who risked their lives, hits were identified," the army said in a statement.

The official Palestinian news agency, Wafa, reported clashes erupted when Israeli forces entered Dheisheh, in the southern occupied West Bank, to search houses.

Ayyad is the third Palestinian killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the start of the year.

On Monday two Palestinian men were shot dead in the northern city of Jenin, when clashes broke out as the army demolished the homes of two Palestinians accused of killing an Israeli soldier in September.

[IsraelTomes] Troops foil an attempt to smuggle drugs into Israel from Egypt this morning, the Israel Defense Forces says.

According to the IDF, soldiers seized some 40 kilograms (88 pounds) of hashish, estimated to be worth NIS 1.65 million ($470,000) near the border.

No arrests are made, as the suspects who apparently hurled the packages over the border fled back to Egypt. The drugs are seized by police for investigation.

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip at southern Israel fell short, landing inside the Paleostinian territory.

The launch did not set off warning sirens in Israel, since defense systems projected that the rocket would land inside Gaza.

The IDF says there are no special instructions for residents of southern Israel following the launch.

Tensions have spiked due to National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir’s visit to Jerusalem’s Temple Mount earlier in the day.

The Gaza-ruling Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terror group has warned against the far-right politician visiting the holy site.

Ben Gvir and his party have brushed aside those warnings, saying Hamas will not dictate their activities.

Iranian guard shot to death on doorsteps of home
[IsraelTimes] No claim of responsibility for killing of Qassem Fethallahi, a senior member of the IRGC and Basij militia that has faced off with protesters

An Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps officer commanding a Tehran security phalanx was shot full of holes in front of his home Tuesday, a semi-official news site reported, as Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
marked the third anniversary of the liquidation of shadowy general Qassem Soleimani

Qassem Fethallahi was shot four times at the entrance to his home in an assault described as a "terror attack," Iran’s Tasnim news site reported.

According to the outlet, which is closely linked with the IRGC, Fethallahi was an officer with the Mohammad Rasulullah Guards of Greater Tehran, a division of the IRGC which has merged with the Basij militia, a paramilitary volunteer branch of Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard.

Both the IRGC and Basij have had prominent roles in brutal crackdown on protests at the behest of the Iranian regime.

Fethallahi was a commander with the Tharallah headquarters, a central hub for the IRGC to direct security operations in and around the capital, according to Tasnim.

No group has taken responsibility for the killing.

The attack came amid months of anti-government demonstrations that have been violent mostly peacefully suppressed by Iran’s security forces. The protests, now entering their third month, were sparked by the death in police custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained for allegedly violating the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s strict dress code. They have since escalated into calls for the downfall of Iran’s holy manal rulers, posing one of the most serious challenges to Iran’s theocracy since the 1979 revolution.

A handful of Basij and IRGC members have been killed during the protests, and dozens have been put to death over the slayings. According to Amnesia Amnesty International, Iran executed at least 314 people in 2021, more than half the total state executions recorded across the Middle East that year.

Fethallahi’s killing came at the tail end of a day that saw Iran hold several commemorations for Soleimani, with Iranian officials vowing to avenge his liquidation.

Soleimani, 62, the head of the Quds Force of the IRGC, was killed on January 3, 2020, in an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
carried out by an American MQ-9 Reaper drone. He was struck while traveling from Baghdad’s international airport.

SDF arrests several ISIS suspects during ongoing operation
[Rudaw] The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday announced the arrest of several Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) suspects during a recently-launched operation against the group in northeast Syria (Rojava).

The SDF on Thursday announced a new anti-ISIS mission dubbed Operation al-Jazeera Thunderbolt, targeting the terror group’s hotspots in northeast Syria’s al-Hol and Tal Hamis. The force later expanded the campaign to Syria-Iraq borders.

"More than 63 km was swept along the desert east of the al-Hol, where ISIS cells could use it for hiding," the US-backed force said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The joint forces raided possible hideouts, arresting three suspects who were, according to initial information, linked to ISIS terrorist cells. The arrestees were referred to investigation to inspect their true identities," read the statement.

The SDF also said that its forces arrested two other ISIS suspects who were hiding in a house. They are accused of being "responsible for manufacturing IEDs and VBIEDs for targeting military points and security patrols in al-Hasaka and Deir Ezzor countryside."

Four "criminals" were also arrested who have allegedly carried out kidnappings, looting and extortion in Hasaka, said the Kurdish-led force without elaborating whether they were affiliated to ISIS.

The SDF has made tens of ISIS arrests since the launch of the operation which has followed fresh deadly attacks by the terror group.
