A contemporary review of this 1935 film states “Unsuitable for children, adolescents, or Sundays.” You be the judge. Miss Ames, an extraordinary stunner from Hollywood’s “Golden Age,” plays “Kay Parrish,” a rich heiress. Unexpectedly in need of work, she contacts a helpful New York acquaintance “Terrence Gallagher” (Ralph Bellamy)—gruff owner of a struggling speakeasy called the “Hee Haw Club”—and hires on as a female version of a gigolo (hence the unusual movie title). The review aforementioned fusses “Although it is established that Adrienne disliked the work, one cannot help feeling displeased when she engages in such work.” Viewers today may find more to deplore in her dipsomaniac romantic choice. Regardless, the film highlights the value of friendship and trust and Adrienne is a knockout.

-War on Police-
Man accused of shooting Maryland cops captured after two-day manhunt
[NYPOST] A man wanted in the shooting of two Maryland coppers was apprehended early Friday after an intense two-day manhunt, followed by an hours-long standoff, authorities said.

Federal, state and local law enforcement agencies surrounded the suspect, 24-year-old David Linthicum, in a wooded area near a shopping mall in Fallston after police used spike strips to disable the car he had stolen from a detective he allegedly shot, Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said.

"When some of the flash bangs went off, he commented on how much he liked fireworks," Gahler said.

Linthicum was taken into custody "successfully and peacefully" around 5:45 a.m., more than eight hours after he barricaded himself in a rocky area near Fallston Mall.

An officer was shot Thursday night during the search for Linthicum, who authorities said maimed a different officer while firing at police the previous afternoon.

The incident began unfolding Wednesday afternoon when Baltimore County officers were called to a home on Powers Avenue in Cockeysville about a person in crisis. A family member escorted the cops to the basement, where they encountered Linthicum.

As the officers spoke with Linthicum, he fired multiple shots, wounding one officer, police said. Cops did not fire their weapons during that interaction.

Afghanistan
Daily Evacuation Brief February 11, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • TALIBAN SAID TO BE PERSECUTING SALAFIS IN BADAKHSHAN – Several reports on Friday stated that prayers had been banned in some Salafist Mosques. Those in the Shuhada District were particularly affected. In addition, a Madrasa was reportedly raided and the officials were either detained or fled into the countryside.

  • MOSCOW SECURITY SUMMIT WRAPS UP – The meeting of regional national security heads in Moscow concluded on Friday. A statement was released that outlined the joint strategic goals with regard to security. The Taliban regime is expected to meet the following obligations:

    • Commit to countering terrorism and extremism

    • Eradicate the trafficking of drugs

    • Form an inclusive and ethnically representative government

    • Respect the human rights of the people of Afghanistan

  • UZBEKISTAN BOOSTS POWER EXPORTS TO AFGHANISTAN – Power shortages in Kabul and other cities have decreased over the last several days. The national power company, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) claims that power imported from Uzbekistan has returned to levels agreed to in late 2022. Factories are thought to be receiving approximately 9 hours of electricity per day while households can expect to receive 5 hours during the day and another 5 hours at night. While the power increase for the industrial sector has been welcomed, manufacturers noted that the current cumulative totals are far below what is required to maintain production levels. It is thought the industrial and manufacturing sectors in Kabul alone need approximately 160 megawatts. Current levels have oscillated between 70-100 megawatts.

  • TALIBAN SECURITY FORCES “IMPOSTERS” A PROBLEM FOR CITIZENS – The Taliban announced they had arrested a team of 4 men who had been donning Taliban-style clothing and stopping citizens in Kabul to demand bribes. The situation is something that has been reported in nearly every Province since early 2022. The Ministers of the Interior and Defense made it a priority to issue uniforms to its personnel in order to help citizens identify legitimate Taliban from potential grifters. However, the uniform distribution program has been slow and many Taliban security forces personnel have eschewed wearing their uniforms in favor of their traditional garb. Some rumors have circulated among citizens in Kabul that Taliban security force members “rent” their clothing and weapons to men engaged in forcing bribes.

  • HEAVY SNOWFALL CLOSES MAIN ROADS IN BADAKHSHAN – A severe storm dropped several centimeters of snow across Afghanistan’s Northern Province, closing roads and disrupting communications. A source in the Ministry of Defense says a Taliban column of supplies and reinforcements has gone missing while traveling from Faizabad to an outpost in an undisclosed location. Attempts were being made to rescue the fifty men but efforts are being hampered by the deep snow and a lack of fuel.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Samangan: Taliban commander Maulvi Ghamee Gol and three of his bodyguards were reportedly killed in an ambush by an NRF team in an undisclosed location in the province.

NEXT 24 HOURS
SEISMOLOGISTS CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITUATION – Several minor earthquakes and aftershocks from the devastating Turkish-Syrian earthquake continue to rattle the region. While most of the seismic activity is very deep, there are concerns that a follow-on quake could hit Afghanistan and Pakistan relatively soon.

Convicted in the case of 'Hizb ut-Tahrir' died in the pre-trial detention center of Novocherkassk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Dzhemil Gafarov, convicted on charges of involvement in a terrorist organization, died in the Novocherkassk detention center.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Dzhemil Gafarov and four other Crimean Tatar activists - Servet Gaziev, Alim Karimov, Seyran Murtaz and Erfan Osmanovadel - were accused of involvement in the Hizbut Tahrir
...an al-Qaeda recruiting organization banned in most countries. It calls for the reestablishment of the Caliphate...
terrorist organization.

In September 2022, a court in Rostov-on-Don extended their terms of arrest. At the same time, Jemil Gafarov stated that, as a disabled person of the second group with renal insufficiency, he suffers in the conditions of an inter-regional tuberculosis hospital and cannot fully prepare for meetings. Gafarov asked to cancel the preventive measure or replace it with any other, not related to detention.

Dzhemil Gafarov died in a pre-trial detention center, said the chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov. His information was confirmed by lawyer Lilya Gemedzhi, the human rights project OVD-Info reports today**.

Gafarov, 60, was diagnosed with kidney failure and needed regular dialysis, and the disease progressed under arrest. Even before his arrest, Gafarov had a disability group III, and in November 2022 he suffered a heart attack, after which he hardly got up and suffered from chest pains.

In January, Gafarov and the other four defendants were sentenced to 13 years in prison, found guilty of participating in the activities of a terrorist organization (part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and preparing to seize power (Article 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), human rights activists reported.

Gafarov died in the Novocherkassk pre-trial detention center, the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Rostov region has not yet responded to a request in connection with his death, Kavkaz.Realii writes today. On the website of the Federal Penitentiary Service, as of 13.05 Moscow time, there is no information about the death of the prisoner.

Man charged with making threats against French Jewish school, site of 2012 shooting

Jewish school, hospital and a Marseille surgeon

French authorities have placed a man under judicial supervision after he allegedly made threatening phone calls last month to a Jewish school in Toulouse that was the site of a deadly terror attack in 2012.

The 34-year-old suspect made 163 phone calls in total, reports showed, including some to a hospital and to a Marseille surgeon.

"I fear that he could attack the Jewish community," a public prosecutor told The Times of Israel’s French edition.

In March 2012, an Islamist gunman entered the Ozar Hatorah school and rubbed out a rabbi and three young students, wounding four others. He was killed after a 30-hour standoff with police.

The attack was often cited as one of the manifestations of a rise in antisemitism in La Belle France that drove a surge in French-Jewish immigration to Israel throughout the 2010s.

In 2019, the shooter’s brother was sentenced to 30 years in prison as an accomplice in the attack.

The defendant who made the phone calls throughout January, and whose identity has not been publicly revealed, was described as without a permanent home and staying in hotels.

Last week, a court in Castres ordered a psychiatric assessment and put him under supervision in his mother’s house in the town of Mazamet, in southern La Belle France, and they adjourned his case until March.

NY court sentences US citizen to prison for illegal tech shipments to Iran
[IsraelTimes] Kambiz Attar Kashani violated federal sanctions by shipping items to Iranian entities through UAE front companies, to the benefit of terror groups and Tehran’s nuclear program

A federal court in New York on Thursday sentenced a dual citizen of the US and Iran
...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979...
to 30 months in prison for illegally exporting technology products to the Iranian government.

Kambiz Attar Kashani, 45, violated US sanctions against Iran and intentionally deceived US authorities and companies by exporting the items through front companies in the United Arab Emirates, prosecutors said.

Kashani and co-conspirators are accused of using the two UAE companies to procure electronic goods and technology from multiple US tech companies between 2019 and 2021. The items were then delivered to Iran, including the Bank of Iran, in violation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

Kashani intentionally deceived US authorities and companies, prosecutors said. One of the companies was in New York and another in Massachusetts.

Some of the exports included sophisticated electronic equipment and software.

Prosecutors said Kashani acted "for the benefit of the Central Bank of Iran, a designated entity that materially supports known terrorist organizations."

The US has sanctioned the Central Bank of Iran for its support of Hezbollah and the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, both designated terrorist groups.

US Attorney Breon Peace said, "His scheme undermined US foreign policy and national security interests, and warranted a substantial sentence of incarceration to deter others."

"Kashani will now head to prison for strengthening the economy of one of the world’s most infamous state sponsors of terrorism to line his own pockets, while circumventing US laws in place to protect our national security interests," said the FBI
...Formerly one of the world's premier criminal investigation organizations, something for a nation to be proud of. Now it's a political arm of the Deep State oligarchy that is willing to trump up charges, suppress evidence, or take out insurance policies come election time...
agent handling the case, Joseph R. Bonavolanta.

Some of the exports helped the Iranian banking system in its operations, boosting Iran’s economy, and allowing for better access to funds that helped Iran develop its nuclear program and terror activities, prosecutors said. Some of the products were classified as information security items and were subject to national security and anti-terrorism controls.

Kashani pleaded guilty to the charges in June 2022. In addition to the prison term, he will pay a $50,000 fine. He had faced up to 20 years in prison for the charges.
Will he at least be stripped of his American citizenship when he has served his sentence?

2 soldiers martyred in IED blast in Balochistan’s Kohlu: ISPR
[Dawn] Two Pakistain Army soldiers were martyred after an improvised bomb (IED) went kaboom! in Balochsitan’s Kohlu area, the military’s media wing said on Friday.

"Based on credible intelligence, a sanitisation operation was initiated on Feb 10 in the Kohlu area of Balochistan

to deny Lions of Islam any liberty of action," the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

During the ensuing sanitisation of the area, the ISPR said, an IED went kaboom! close to the leading party.

"Resultantly, two officers — identified as Major Jawad and Captain Sagheer — embraced martyrdom and laid their lives in defence of the motherland against an externally perpetrated threat."

The ISPR said that a sanitisation operation is under way in the area to apprehend perpetrators and enemies of peace.

"Such cowardly acts by inimical elements cannot sabotage the hard-earned peace and prosperity in Balochistan. Security Forces are determined to neutralise their nefarious designs even at the cost of blood and lives," the statement concluded.

Earlier, the medical superintendent of the District Healthquarter Hospital (DHQ) Kohlu told Dawn.com that an emergency had been imposed at the medical facility.

All the medical staff, doctors and paramedics have been alerted, he added.

Today’s attack in Balochistan was the latest in a series of terrorist attacks which spiked since the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain (TTP) rescinded the ceasefire with the government in 2021.

According to a report, January was the deadliest month since 2018, in which 134 people bit the dust — a 139 per cent spike — and 254 received injuries in at least 44 bad boy attacks across the country.

Last week, a Coast guard was martyred and seven others were maimed in a landmine explosion and subsequent ambush by armed snuffies in the Jiwani area of Gwadar district.

On Feb 6, seven people were maimed in two terrorist attacks in Quetta.

Five people, including an office-bearer of the Civil Secretariat Staff Association, suffered injuries in the first attack. The outlawed TTP later had grabbed credit for the blast, saying that it was a suicide kaboom.

In the second attack, a woman and her child were maimed when unknown persons riding cycle of violences hurled a grenade into the house of Nazeer Ahmed on Mano Jan Road. The grenade went kaboom! in the courtyard.

Two killed in Jerusalem terror ramming, including 6-year-old boy; driver shot dead
[IsraelTimes] Second victim a recently-married yeshiva student, 20; medics say 5 others hurt including child at death's door; attacker identified as Israeli citizen from East Jerusalem

A six-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed and at least five others were maimed in a car-ramming terror attack near East Jerusalem’s Ramot neighborhood, police and medics said Friday. One of those maimed was a child at death's door.

Graphic footage from the scene showed several people strewn on the ground after a blue Mazda vehicle crashed into a bus stop near the Nebi Samuel site, between Jerusalem and the Paleostinian city of Ramallah.

Several bystanders were seen aiming firearms at the car. Police said the driver was rubbed out by an officer who was at the scene.

The attacker was identified as Hussein Qaraqa, an Israeli citizen and resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya.

Police designated the incident as a terror attack, and officers were seen operating in Issawiya shortly after.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said the boy, 6, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was named as Yaakov Yisrael Fali.

The second victim was identified as Alter Shlomo Lederman, a 20-year-old yeshiva student who had gotten married two months ago. He and his wife had been on their way to his parents’ home for Shabbat. Lederman was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center at death's door, where he succumbed to his wounds.

Hebrew-language media reports claimed Lederman had been shot during the incident, and was not rammed. But a police spokesperson denied the claim and said all the victims had been hurt by the car-ramming.

Another eight-year-old boy was at death's door at Shaare Zedek.

"When we arrived at the scene, the sight was shocking," said MDA medic Shraga Rosenthal. "We saw a car near the bus station after it hit pedestrians who were waiting at the station."

"We saw six victims lying next to each other, among them, two were children about 6 years old who were unconscious with severe multisystem trauma," he said.

The other victims included two men in their 20s at death's door, a man in his 40s in moderate condition, and a 10-year-old boy in light condition, medical officials said.

The victims were taken to the Shaare Zedek and Hadassah Mount Scopus hospitals in the capital.

Police said a large number of forces were at the scene.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said the premier was being updated on the attack and had decided to seal the home of the attacker.

"On behalf of all the citizens of Israel, I send my condolences to the families of those murdered in the attack in Jerusalem. I conducted a security assessment and ordered an increase in forces, to carry out arrests and act immediately to seal the terrorist’s house and demolish it," Netanyahu said.

As a matter of policy, Israel demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks. Sealing the homes of attackers is often a replacement or stopgap for demolishing them. Last month, police welded the doors and windows shut of the home of a Paleostinian terrorist who killed seven in Jerusalem, as a temporary move ahead of its full demolition.

President Isaac Herzog noted the attack came just before Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest.

"Just before Shabbat and our hearts ache with terrible pain after a despicable terrorist took the lives of a small child and a young man in a ramming attack in Jerusalem," Herzog said.

"Together with all the people of Israel, I feel the pain of the families and pray for the healing of the maimed," he said.

Speaking at the scene, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said he had ordered police to set up roadblocks around Issawiya, where the terrorist came from "as a deterrent."

"We have to act with determination and aggression to protect our children," he said.

Ben Gvir, of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, said that he wanted to "completely besiege" the neighborhood, but there were legal problems with this, adding that he was continuing to work to pass legislation calling for the death penalty
for terrorists.

After his remarks, several angry bystanders shouted at the minister. "The biggest terror attacks were on your watch," one said, while a group of Ben Gvir supporters chanted "death to terrorists."

In a later statement, Ben Gvir called on police to "prepare plans for Operation Defensive Shield 2 in East Jerusalem," referring to the Israeli military’s operations in the West Bank during the Second Intifada in the early 2000s.

"Ben Gvir instructed the police to ready and prepare plans for Operation Defensive Shield 2 in East Jerusalem starting this coming Sunday, to deal with the terror nests in East Jerusalem," his office said.
Ha’aretz adds:

'I'm sorry for what happened. It's a tragedy, but it's not a terror attack,' a relative said.

Iran claims to arrest ‘mercenaries’ for Israel behind Isfahan drone attack
[IsraelTimes] Tehran says it caught ’main actors of failed attempt
...Curses! Foiled again!...
to sabotage’ defense site last month.

Iran’s intelligence ministry said on Friday it had arrested the "main actors" involved in a drone attack last month on a defense ministry site in central Isfahan province.

"The main actors of the failed attempt to sabotage one of the industrial centers of the Ministry of Defense in Isfahan were identified and arrested," a joint statement by the intelligence ministry and the intelligence organization of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps read.

"Due to the ongoing investigation in the case of the arrested accused, additional information will be published at the appropriate time," the statement added.

"In short, the involvement of mercenaries of the temporary Zionist regime [Israel] in that action has been proven," it added.

Iranian authorities reported an "unsuccessful" drone attack on January 28 that targeted a defense ministry "workshop complex" in Isfahan.

An anti-aircraft system destroyed one drone and two others went kaboom!, the defense ministry said at the time, adding that there were no casualties and only minor damage to the site.

The Iranian intelligence agencies also warned that "the act of violating the sacred sanctity of the Islamic Theocratic Republic will have additional punishment and will be met with a lesson-learning reaction from the guardians of the security of powerful Iran."

Earlier this month, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
accused Israel of being behind the drone attack.

The Nour News Agency, considered close to Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also accused Iraq-based Kurdish groups of involvement.

Iran
...They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
has been engaged in a shadow war with Israel for years, with Tehran accusing Israel of being behind a series of sabotage attacks and liquidations targeting its nuclear program, carried out alongside the United States.

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry in July claimed to have broken up a plot to target sensitive sites around Isfahan. A segment aired on Iranian state TV in October included purported confessions by alleged members of Komala, a Kurdish opposition party that is exiled from Iran and now dwells in Iraq, that they planned to target a military aerospace facility in Isfahan after being trained by Israel’s Mossad intelligence service.

It remains unclear whether the military workshop targeted in the drone attack was that aerospace facility. Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the satellite images and other questions about the workshop.

Satellite photos analyzed by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named earlier this month showed damage to the roof of the site.
