Afghanistan
Two former army commanders arrested by Taliban in Kabul: Sources
[AMUtv] Two former commanders of Afghanistan’s national army under the republic government were arrested by the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
in Kabul’s Police District 17 on Monday, sources confirmed on Wednesday.

The two arrested include Farid Sayed Khilil, a former army regiment commander for Baghlan and Parwiz Sayedkhili, former battalion commander for the same regiment.

Three sources from former officials in Parwan province, north of Kabul, who wished not to be named, said the two were arrested when they were on the way to Kabul from Parwan.

The sources said that Sayedkhili has been maimed in Taliban firing during their arrest.

One source said that Farid Sayedkhili, a battalion commander for Pamir 217 Corps under the previous government, was arrested when Taliban opened fire on his vehicle and then detained him.

Two more security force members from the previous government were also arrested recently, a source said, who added that he could not name the people detained.

Taliban’s front man for the interior ministry, Khalid Zadran, did not respond to a message about the arrest of the two former security force members.

Taliban announced a "general amnesty" after taking over Afghanistan in August 2021 and assured that former government officials and security force members will not be targeted by the group, but there are many reports about killing and arrest of former ANDSF personnel and babus government employees over the past 18 months.

On Feb. 2, a former member of Afghan army’s special unit, said in an interview with Amu that he spent nine months under Taliban custody, during which he was "tortured and abused."

Human Rights Watch in a report said that the Taliban killed over 100 members of security forces in the first three months of the group’s rule in Afghanistan.

UN in a report said that over 160 extrajudicial killings of former security force members and government officials happened in Afghanistan under the Taliban in the first six months of their rule. Taliban has rejected these reports as baseless.

Arrests made in Kabul over Turkey flight rumors
[ArianaNews] Abdulhaq Hammad, the head of the monitoring unit of media publications, says that the people who spread the rumors of free flights to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
from Kabul airport last week have been arrested by the intelligence forces.

"Those who insulted a number of citizens at the Kabul airport a few days ago and considered themselves part of the system, and the saboteurs who spread the subversive rumor of transfers to Turkey, were all arrested by the Intelligence Department," Hammad wrote on Thursday on his Twitter page.

This comes after a rumor spread last week in Kabul that volunteers would be flown to Turkey. Thousands of people rushed to the airport in Kabul.

Daily Evacuation Brief February 16, 2023 — recalibrating the date
I thought yesterday’s repeat of the Feb 15 date with new information was a mistake, but apparently not.
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • SENATOR FROM FORMER REGIME ARRESTED – Qais Khan Wakili was arrested early on Thursday by Taliban security forces. There was no reason given for his arrest. The Senator represented Bamyan Province in the former regime. His current whereabouts and disposition are unknown.

  • MINISTER OF DEFENSE REMARKS AT ODDS WITH SUPREME LEADER IN SPEECH – After the Minister of the Interior made controversial remarks in Khost, the Minister of Defense (Yaqub) reportedly echoed the Interior Minister’s remarks and expressed sympathy with the people of Afghanistan. The first speech drew a rebuke from the Supreme Leader’s spokesman and it is likely Minister Yaqub’s comments will elicit similar criticism. Both Ministers have been rumored to be at odds with the Supreme Leader over the imposition of gender bans on women.

  • EARTHQUAKE REPORTED IN BADAKHSHAN – A 4.7 magnitude earthquake was reported in the Province and residents in Faizabad said their homes were shaking. The quake hit the region at approximately 2300hrs local on Thursday night. No reports of casualties or damages have yet arrived.

  • CSTO LEADER’S COMMENTS ON AFGHANISTAN – In a prepared release, leaders of the CSTO member states pledged to come to Tajikistan’s aid should any attack be made on its soil from Afghanistan. In an ancillary announcement, the organization opined that over 6,000 ISIS-K militants are operating in Afghanistan and that 4,000 of them are concentrated along the Tajik border.

  • UPTICK IN RESISTANCE UNIT ACTIONS – There has been a notable increase in violence between Resistance forces and the Taliban over the last several days. Some are wondering if the ‘campaign season’ has already begun.

CONFLICT TRACKER
Kabul: An AFF team hit a Taliban security checkpoint in Police District 15 in Kabul yesterday night. 1 Taliban was killed and 2 were wounded.
Takhar: An NRF ambush on a Taliban convoy in the Rastaq district resulted in the death of 1 Taliban leader (Ghafar) and an unknown number of Taliban wounded.
Zabul: The ALM reputedly conducted an ambush of the district governor of Suri (Malvi Khan Muhammad Mashur) as he was driving at approximately 0900hrs local. The governor was reportedly killed in the roadside mine blast and his driver was wounded,
Logar: 1 Taliban fighter was reportedly killed in an internal clash in the Mohammad Agha district. The clash was reputedly triggered by a verbal dispute.
“Yo mama!”
“Yeah? Well, yo sista and yo otha sista!”

NEXT 24 HOURS
SECURITY OPERATIONS IN KABUL STILL BEING PLANNED – Yesterday’s reports about security operations on suspected ISIS-K safe houses (or apartments) have continued according to a source familiar with the situation. Apparently, there is confusion about the identities and nationalities of the suspected ISIS-K members. We still do not know which police districts are the focal points of these operations.

Al-Shabaab overpowered in Hiran battle, airstrike as territory lost
[ShabelleMedia] Somali government forces say al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
is defeated in latest offensive in central region, but the group remains a major threat.

The SNA and pro-government tribal militias have been raising victory flags in Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
and HirShabelle, one of the last strongholds of the terror group for the past 6 months.

The latest reports indicate that the combined troops raided al-Shabaab hideouts on Hiran-Middle Shabelle regions and engaged in hours-long shootout with the holy warriors.

The face-to-face fighting took place in a small town called Inji, which straddles the border between the two regions, where is known for frequent festivities and US military Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s.

The al-Qaeda-linked turbans retain a presence in the southern and central regions and are active in countryside, where they orchestrate the attacks, including those meant to Mogadishu.

The commanders who led the Inji operation reported an airstrike targeted al-Shabaab during the battle that they said inflicted irretrievable losses on the fighters.

Al-Shabaab lost Af’ad, where it seized on Wednesday from the allied forces.

Confirming the victory, SNA officer said the forces would continue operations against al-Shabaab cells, which he said were "a great threat to our country and the whole region".

The SNA and Ma’wisley alliance began a final assault on al-Shabaab at the start of 2023, with aim to retake the remaining areas under the group’s control.

Many al-Shabaab fighters have been reported abandoned some villages in HirShabelle and Galmudug, but those who stayed put up fierce resistance, deploying jacket wallahs and boom-mobiles targeting SNA’s new bases.

Galmudug regional forces kill 55 Al-Shabaab members – official
[ShabelleMedia] Deputy Governor Wisil Abdigarad Omar Mohammed also said that 4 soldiers bit the dust and some others were maimed in the battle that took place in the past 48 hours.

The SNA and allied clan militias have forced al-Shabaab

from swathes of territory, in the latest offensive that was declared by president Hassan Sheikh in August last year.

Last month, SNA took control of Harardhere and the nearby town of Galcad in Galmudug
...a semiautonomous region in central Somalia, bordering Puntland on the north. Galmudug is not trying to obtain international recognition as a separate nation, but rather considers itself autonomous within the larger Somali federalism, for what that's worth...
state. Harardhere was a major base for pirates until 2011.

The successes have led some officials to claim al-Shabaab is on its last legs and could be liberated whole country in a short period of time, thanks to Hassan Sheikh for his commitment,

Despite the historic ground gains, the security experts warn that al-Shabaab can regroup and reclaim areas the SNA and community fighters does not have the capacity to hold.

Arabia
Saudi-backed forces continue advance on Emirati-supported troops in Lahj
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The Saudi-backed “Dara Al-Watan” ( Nation Shield Forces ), continued on Wednesday their advance towards the positions of the pro-UAE armed factions in the coastal strip of Lahj province, southern Yemen.

This comes one day after the pro-Saudi forces took control of the strategic “Kharaz” mountain in the center of Al-Madhareba district, and expelled the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia members from it, in the first confrontations with them Tuesday.

Media sources said that units of the “Dara Al-Watan” forces, which were recently established by Saudi Arabia, deployed in the southern regions of the Al-Madhareba district, which is close to Ras al-Ara area.

The recent developments come in light of Saudi efforts to deploy the recruits of the “Dara Al-Watan” forces from Bab al-Mandab to al-Buraiqa district of Aden province, southern Yemen, as part of a Saudi plan to curtail the role of the UAE and its affiliated militias in the areas of Yemen controlled by the Saudi-led coalition.

On Tuesday, the STC sent a strong threatening message to Saudi Arabia through the council’s deputy secretary-general, Fadl Al-Jaadi, who called on Saudi Arabia to absorb the reality, indicating in a tweet on “Twitter” platform that “the south of today is different from the south of yesterday.”

Al-Jaadi confirmed in his tweet that “the STC has claws and fangs to defend itself,” describing the STC opponents as “idiots.”

Observers had warned of the coalition continuing to booby-trap the Yemeni coasts near the Bab al-Mandab Strait with extremist groups, making matters worse, along with the extremist Salafist groups that make up the factions loyal to the UAE in southern Yemen.

Local Gunmen Attack STC Vehicle With Explosive Device, Two Killed and Four Wounded
by Emad Almarshahi

[HODHODYEMENNEWS] At least two members of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia were killed and four others wounded on Thursday in an explosion in Abyan province, eastern Yemen.

Local sources in Abayn reported that unidentified gunmen targeted a vehicle belonging to the STC with an explosive device, leaving two dead and four injured in Al-Baqira area of Omran Valley in Mudiyah district.

This comes after the killing of the operations chief of the “Fifth Support Brigade,” Abdullah Saad Ba Rujaila, and the staff officer of the first battalion in the brigade, Abdulmajeed Al-Elyani, during the first week of February, when four explosive devices were detonated at the entrance to the Omran valley

India-Pakistan
Infiltrator killed in Kupwara: Police

Police and security forces killed an infiltrator near the Line of Control (LoC) in the frontier district of Kupwara during the night, police said on Thursday.

Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
Zone Police, in a tweet, said that during the preceding night, based on a specific input generated by Kupwara police, a joint team of army & police intercepted an infiltrating group in Saidpora forward area.

"The joint team has neutralised one infiltrator. Search is still going on. Further details shall follow, " it said.

Two Killed, Four wounded in Blast inside Jaffar Express Train in Pakistan UPDATE: Balochistan Nationalist Army claims it
Could be a jihad attack, or perhaps just a propane tank kabooming. Dawn has nothing on the story, so we’ll see.
[KhaamaPress] At least two people were killed, and four others were maimed in a kaboom inside the Jaffar Express train in Punjab’s Chichawatni on Thursday, officials said.

The blast occurred when the Quetta Jaffar Express from Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

crossed the Chichwatni railway station in Panjab. The nature of the earth-shattering kaboom has not been determined, and the police have not released any statement.

According to the report, the injured people have been moved to the nearby hospital for treatment.

Recently, the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
Pakistain (TTP) has increased its attack on government officials, foreigners and people.

Moreover, in a recent unexpected announcement, China has closed the consular section of its embassy in Islamabad due to security threats.

In addition, the Chinese government also stated that its citizens might face elevated levels of security in the country.

Since December last year, there has been a 56 per cent rise in the terror attack in the country, and the recent attack on Peshawar Mosque was the deadliest.
Update from Dawn at 3:10p.m. ET:
An explosion destroyed Jaffar Express on Thursday morning near Chichawatni, killing a woman and injuring seven others, the police said. The blast occurred inside the washroom of train’s coach No. 4 and was powerful enough to blow out its iron structure.

The train — a 39UP Jaffar Express, which travels from Quetta to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar — was on the move when the blast went off.

The woman killed in the incident, 55-year-old Naziran Bibi, was travelling from Sadiqabad to Okara. She had to sit on the floor beside the washroom because seats were unavailable. Ms Naziran, a resident of Nowshera, went titzup.

The bully boy group Balochistan

Nationalist Army later grabbed credit for the blast in a message published on social media.
