Suicide bomber killed outside Bank in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province
[KhaamaPress] A suicide kaboom occurred on Friday outside a bank branch in Faizabad city, the bustling provincial capital of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan Province.

According to Muezuddin Ahmadi, the provincial director of the Taliban

’s Media and Culture Department, the jacket wallah was shot down before he could reach the crowd assembled at the bank. Ahmadi continued, "No one was significantly hurt except for the attacker.

There was not immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, said officials.

A day before the incident, a kaboom was reported in the Taloqan capital city, Takhar province, resulting in at least four people being killed and several others being injured.

Earlier this week, a high-ranking delegation led by Khawaja Asif, the defense minister of Pakistain, visited Kabul to discuss security and TTP and ISKP murderous Moslems.

In the meeting, the two sides agreed to collaborate to effectively address the threat of terrorism posed by various terror organizations.

Daily Evacuation Brief February 26, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • SUICIDE BOMBER NEUTRALIZED BEFORE HE COULD TARGET A BANK IN BADAKHSHAN – Taliban security forces identified a suicide bomber who appeared to be attempting to infiltrate a crowd of people standing outside of a bank in Faizabad on Friday. The Taliban forces took quick action and fired on the man before he could reach the crowd. It was not clear if the explosive device strapped to his body detonated. Some minor casualties were reported but the nature of their injuries and what may have caused them were not available. No group has yet claimed credit for the attack.

  • MINISTER OF DEFENSE AGAIN APPEARS TO BREAK WITH THE SUPREME LEADER IN REMARKS – Mullah Yaqoob, acting Minister of Defence, in a speech to a graduating class of police officers told the cadets “...not to blindly obey anyone…”. Observers say the speech is clearly directed at the Supreme Leader and others of the old guard. Both the Minister of Defense and the Minister of the Interior have styled themselves as the moderates among the senior leadership and a public schism has come to light after the gender bans were implemented.

  • KYRGYZSTAN IS SENDING A DELEGATION TO ASSESS THE HUMANITARIAN SITUATION IN AFGHANISTAN AFTER PLEA FROM KYRGYZ FOR HELP – A video made by ethnic Kyrgyz living in Afghanistan went viral in Kyrgyzstan and the government has responded by ordering a humanitarian assistance team to go to Afghanistan and make an assessment of the conditions. The video that was circulated widely across Kyrgyzstan claimed the situation was dire and requested help in returning to Kyrgyzstan. Taliban officials were alarmed by the video and reportedly sent a note to Kyrgyz leaders, saying they would investigate the claims and help the ethnic Kyrgyz find solutions to their problems. The communique apparently had no effect.

  • WOMEN’S REVOLUTION MOVEMENT LAUNCHED IN KABUL – A group of women activists launched a campaign focused on promoting basic human rights for all in Afghanistan. The impetus for the movement has been the injustices leveled against women in particular. No arrests were reported after the press conference but a source in the Ministry of the Interior claimed that female GDI agents attended the event and a list of names had been compiled.

  • TORKHAM GATE FULLY REOPENED – Both Afghan and Pakistan officials announced the border has been reopened for all traffic. The gates reopened at 0600hrs local time and both trucks and pedestrians began moving across. A backlog of over 1,000 trucks was reported on the Pakistan side and locals said it would take a few days to pass them all.

  • PAKISTAN’S AUSTERITY PLAN COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS – Reports surfaced on Saturday that Pakistan’s Accountant General had been ordered to suspend payments for an indeterminate amount of time while the Government grapples with several austerity measures. There are fears that some of the suspended payments include salaries. The government has attempted to stamp out the rumors but they persist in local media.

NEXT 24 HOURS
  • PAKISTAN THREATENS AFGHANISTAN WITH ACTIONS ON ITS SOIL IF TTP ATTACKS CONTINUE FROM AFGHAN BASES – Further details have emerged from the high-level Afghanistan-Pakistan talks in Kabul. Apparently, the meetings went badly and threats were traded between both sides. A Turkish media outlet reported that the Pakistani delegation had informed their counterparts they expected them to halt a suspected Spring Offensive that could begin in the next few days. The Taliban responded by saying Pakistan had allowed the US to launch the drone that killed al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahir and repeated the denial that the TTP has a foothold in Afghanistan. At-risk Afghans living/traveling along the border should remain aware that any TTP actions could provoke a strong Pakistani response.

  • WOMEN’S MOVEMENT LEADERS COULD FACE QUESTIONING/DETENTION – After a group of women activists publicly launched the Afghanistan Women’s Revolution in Kabul, those in attendance and/or who supported the social media announcements could be visited by police or Ministry of the Interior agents.

Two cops killed, 2 missing after vehicle hits IED in Garissa
[ShabelleMedia] At least two coppers were Friday killed after their vehicle was hit by an bomb in Dadaab, Garissa County.

Witnesses and police said the Land Cruiser from Dadaab cop shoppe was racing on the Dadaab-Garissa main supply route at Hagarbul area when it ran over a set Improvised Explosive Device.

Four coppers were on board the vehicle and two bodies were found at the scene while two were missing.

North Eastern regional police boss George Seda confirmed the incident and added a response team had been sent to the scene.

He said the search for the missing officers was ongoing. This is the latest such incident to happen in the area.

On February 14, three other officers were killed after their vehicle ran over an improvised bomb (IED) in Alango-Arba area near Saretho, Garissa.

The incident happened when a speeding vehicle carrying personnel from Boarder Patrol Unit was hit.

The vehicle was badly damaged. Four other officers were seriously injured.

murderous Moslems breach security posts to attack at will.

Police say they have foiled dozens of such planned attacks.

The border region has borne the brunt of repeated attacks from the murderous Moslems who are at times aided by residents.

The turbans at times plant explosives on the routes used by security agencies and attack them.

Somalia has not had a stable government after the fall of Siad Barre in 1991.

Earlier this month, while giving a state of security in the country in the past 100 days, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki said they have stepped up the fight against the threat of terror.

"We have disrupted many terror plots at source, neutralised and or arrested dozens of suspected terrorists, and destroyed a huge cache of weapons and explosives that could have badly harmed our people if they were not intercepted."

"The current crackdown on al-Shabaab terror cells in Somalia which is spearheaded by local community leaders with the support of the Federal Government of Somalia has tremendously weakened this bad boy group," he said.

He said security agencies are alert to ensure murderous Moslems do not cross into Kenya.

"We have stepped up our border patrols and upped our surveillance on the proliferation of illicit arms, narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances," he said.

He added they have improved on intelligence gathering to stay several steps ahead of the enemy and are always aware that turbans only need one lucky break to hurt the country and inflict pain.

"We must always strike first and fast to neutralise them and obliterate their nefarious networks."

The CS said as hardworking officers in the elite specially trained formed units remain engaged to keep terror at bay, their colleagues on general duties have helped to significantly reduce the general rate of crime in the country during the past three months.

Three suspects arrested in the murder of military official
[ShabelleMedia] The security forces in Gedo region detained suspects in the liquidation of a senior Somali military official following long-hours search and manhunt.

The judicial authorities said three suspects, including a Tuktuk driver are in jug and undergoing interrogation by the police before being put into a trial.

The defendants are convicted of having role in the killing of SNA’s 28th division Mohammed Aweys, who died in an bomb attached to his bed in Beled-Hawo town.

The leadership of NISA forces in Gedo region said the suspects will be transferred to Mogadishu to face charges at the Somali military which often handles with such cases.

The reports from the region indicate that the slain army officer had information about the murder of Bakol Kooke, ex-NISA head in Gedo, who was killed last year in a roadside blast.

The body of Aweys was discovered from the cemetery and found torture subjected to him before being killed in an IED, according to the sources within the security agencies.

In December 9 last year, the intelligence chief for Gedo region Bakaal Kooke has been killed in a kaboom while traveling from Luq town to Doolow.

Terrorists kill more than 70 soldiers in Burkina Faso
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] In Burkina Faso, terrorists attacked a military convoy and killed more than 70 soldiers

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for killing more than 70 soldiers in an ambush attack on a convoy in northern Burkina Faso, ABC News reports.

We are talking about an attack that took place near the village of Deu in the province of Udalan. As a result of the attack, dozens of servicemen were also injured, and five more were taken prisoner.

One of the soldiers ambushed in Deu said that the number of militants who attacked the convoy was more than 300, which greatly exceeded the size of the army unit.

As REGNUM reported earlier, on February 20, the government of Burkina Faso spread information that in the province of Sum in the north of Burkina Faso, militants abducted about 50 women.
Al Ahram expands:
The statement, posted Friday by Amaq, the group’s news agency, said it attacked a convoy trying to advance to areas under its control near Deou, in the Sahel's Oudalan province. It said it seized weapons and chased retreating soldiers for miles into the desert.

Images released by the group show 54 slain bodies in military uniform lying in the bloodstained dirt, as well as more than 50 seized assault rifles and images of the five soldiers it said were taken prisoner.

The announcement comes one week after the attack in Deou and days after another attack in Tin-Akoff town, where locals and civil society groups say dozens more soldiers and non-combatants were killed when a military outpost was hit.

It's unclear how many people have been killed in the two incidents. Last week the government confirmed that 51 soldiers died in the Deou ambush but it has not responded to requests for updated numbers or commented on the attack in Tin-Akoff.

Violence linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has wracked the country for seven years killing thousands and displacing nearly 2 million people. Frustration at the government's inability to stem the violence led to two coups last year, each one preceded by a major attack on the military.

This is the deadliest ambush on soldiers since the new junta leader, Capt. Ibrahim Traore, seized power in September and analysts say it could threaten his grip on power.

"There’s a persistent stream of turban attacks north of the country and the public is undoubtedly taking notice of their government's inability to provide security. Any further attacks this colossal could threaten a public scene and even threaten to unseat the junta," said Laith Alkhouri, CEO of Intelonyx Intelligence Advisory, which provides intelligence analysis.

One soldier involved in the ambush in Deou, who was not authorized to speak to the media, said their convoy was outnumbered as more than 300 jihadis encircled them, firing rockets and mortars. "We lost many men", he said.

The large number of jihadis and the different colored headscarves they were wearing appeared like a coalition of many holy warrior franchises that he hadn't seen before, he said.

The Islamic State and an al-Qaeda linked group, known by its acronym JNIM, are not known to work together, but rather have been fighting each other for territory and influence in the country as well as in neighboring Mali where they operate. Analysts say it's extremely unlikely they would have joined forces.

Some locals say the increase of jihadi violence against the military is Dire Revenge for torture and extrajudicial killings by soldiers against people presumed to be jihadis.

Hamadou Boureima Diallo, a local journalist in the Sahel's Dori town, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named by phone that he spoke with locals who witnessed the latest attack in Tin-Akoff and were able to flee and that they blamed the killings on Dire Revenge.

"These recent bloody attacks against soldiers is because when the soldiers arrest Death Eaters or presumed Death Eaters they torture them and make photos or videos that circulate on social media," said Diallo, recounting what the locals said. "We have seen some of the videos where presumed Death Eaters are being tortured. ... This is not good," he said.

Chile to deploy troops to borders to slow migrant flow
[AlAhram] Chile on Monday will begin deploying troops to its borders with Peru and Bolivia in its latest attempt to control the flow of undocumented migrants colonists, officials said Saturday.

Interior Secretary Carolina Toha said she would tour the deployment sites on Monday.

Soldiers will be posted -- initially for 90 days -- to the regions of Tarapaca, Antofagasta and Arica y Parinacota, according to a government decree.

Military units will be empowered to detain anyone attempting to pass through unauthorized border crossings and turn them over to local police.

The government decree argues that migratory flows have been increasing, causing a "massive arrival of people through unauthorized passages."

The Andean town of Colchane will be a primary focus of the military effort. Mayor Javier Garcia told local radio that some 400 people pass through unauthorized crossing points each day, with the largest number arriving from crisis-wracked Venezuela
...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...
.

Colchane is the most heavily trafficked spot for foreigners attempting to enter Chile.

Some arrivals have set up tents in town; others wander around looking for assistance, and dozens have died of hunger, cold or disease in recent years.

The military deployment is the latest measure Chile has taken in an effort to control the migratory flow. A year ago the government widened a 600-meter (2,000-foot) trench dug years earlier.

Criminal gangs smuggling drugs and contraband have built bridges across the trench -- which undocumented migrants colonists have used.

Palestinians say settlers hurled stones, torched cars in northern West Bank town; Shin Bet: most settlers law-abiding
[IsraelTimes] IDF says troops break up ’friction’ in Burin, near Nablus; no arrests immediately made; one Paleostinian reportedly hurt
What's the Hebrew word for "intifada?"
Israeli settlers torched a number of Paleostinian-owned cars in a northern West Bank village on Saturday, Paleostinian media reports and an Israeli rights group said.

Footage published by Paleostinian media outlets from the village of Burin, close to Nablus, showed two cars burning.

The Yesh Din rights group said around a dozen settlers arrived from the nearby illegal outpost of Givat Ronen and first began hurling stones at a home in Burin, before soldiers arrived.

It published a clip showing several masked figures on a hill hurling stones toward Burin.
"Who wuz that masked man?"
"I dunno, but he left me this silver bullet. And he threw a rock at my house!"

Yesh Din said the settlers fled after soldiers arrived,
"Cheezit! It's da troops!"
only to come back to Burin from another direction and began hurling stones at homes and cars again, before carrying out the arson.

The rights group said at least one Paleostinian was hospitalized after being hit in
"Ow! My leg!"
"Into da amulance wit' yez, me boyo!"
"I'm a girl!"
"Nice mustache!"
"Thank you."

the leg by a stone hurled by the settlers.

Near the site of the burning cars, Israeli soldiers and two civilian security officers were seen arguing with locals as a fire truck waited to pass through to handle the blaze.

Yesh Din accused the army and the security coordinators for the nearby settlements of Har Bracha and Yitzhar of deliberately blocking the way for the Paleostinian fire truck.

A military spokesperson told The Times of Israel that troops were dispatched to the scene to break up "friction between settlers and Paleostinians." The spokesperson said the soldiers did not use any riot dispersal means to disperse the crowd.

Local security officials said some 40 Paleostinians from Burin also hurled stones back at the group of settlers.
"Look out! He's got a stone!"
"I think that's a girl!"

There was no immediate comment from police on the alleged arson, and there were no reports of arrests made.

Incidents of vandalism against Paleostinians and Israeli security forces are commonly referred to as "price tag" attacks, with far-right perpetrators claiming they are retaliation for Paleostinian violence or government policies seen as hostile to the settler movement.

Arrests of perpetrators are rare and rights groups lament that convictions are even more unusual, with the majority of charges in such cases being dropped.

Reports of nationalist crimes against Paleostinians in the West Bank surged in recent weeks, following several terror attacks.

On Monday, Israel Police detained five Jewish West Bank settler activist muppets on suspicion of involvement in the torching of a Paleostinian car and a subsequent clash with IDF troops.

Some 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank. Among them are several hundred known as the "hilltop youth," who seek to settle every corner of the biblical land of Israel.

Military officials say there are at most 150 hilltop youth involved in serious incidents of violence against Paleostinians, but are worried about the increasing number of "mainstream" settlers supporting their actions or participating themselves.

The IDF recorded 838 incidents of settler violence in 2022, compared to 446 in 2021 and 353 in 2020.

Only 101 police investigations into settler attacks were opened last year, and just 28 indictments were filed.

The IDF said settler attacks in 2022 were no longer only coming from settlements or illegal outposts considered hard boy, such as the Yitzhar area, but also from supposedly moderate areas.

IDF: Palestinian man detained for allegedly firing at settlement
[IsraelTimes] Military says suspect fired six times at Havat Yair with makeshift submachine gun, fled scene but was caught a few hours later

A Paleostinian gunman who shot up an Israeli settlement in the northern West Bank on Saturday was detained several hours later, the military said.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the gunman shot up Havat Yair, southwest of Nablus, and expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.

Troops found six shell casings in the area.
"Hey! Police up yer brass!"
There were no reports of injuries or damage caused by the gunfire.

The IDF said that following scans of the area and intelligence efforts by the Shin Bet security agency, the suspect was detained in the West Bank town of Qarawat Bani Hassan, and the gun used in the attack — a makeshift "Carlo" submachine gun — was seized.

Surveillance camera footage showed the gunman opening fire at the settlement from a nearby hill.

Havat Yair was established illegally in 1999, but was legalized by Israeli authorities in 2021.

The attack came hours after members of the Nablus-based Lion’s Den terror group opened fire on a military post in the northern West Bank.

In recent months, Paleostinian button men have repeatedly targeted military posts, troops operating along the West Bank security barrier, Israeli settlements and civilians on the roads.

Jordan intercepts drone carrying weapons from Syria
[ShafaqNews] Jordan's army on Saturday thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons and grenades into the country from Syria using a drone, state-TV reported.

The kingdom's border guards spotted the explosives-laden drone crossing into the eastern region, a military source was quoted as saying.

It was downed inside Jordanian territory, the source said.

After a search, the border guards found the drone, an M4 carbine rifle and four hand grenades, the source said.

The drone had been booby-trapped and was handled by specialised team, they said.

Jordanian officials have reported a surge in attempts to smuggle drugs from Syria over the past year, including large quantities found hidden in lorries at the kingdom's main border crossing, en route to the Gulf region.

Syrian authorities have in recent months announced several major interceptions of drugs destined for Gulf markets and say they are doing their utmost to tackle widespread production in the country.

IED Explosion Wounds Syrian Government Forces In Daraa
[NPASyria] On Saturday, members of the Syrian government forces were maimed in an IED attack targeted their military vehicle in the western countryside of Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

A local source told North Press that more than five Syrian soldiers sustained injuries, some very critical, due to an IED attack targeted a military vehicle near the town of Jamla in, west of Daraa.

The source added that the government forces sent more than 10 cars to the region, some equipped with anti-aircraft machine guns. They combed the surrounding area for the perpetrators.

According to the source, the maimed were taken to al-Sanamayn Public Hospital, whereas two others were taken directly to Damascus hospitals due to critical injuries.

This incident happened two days after the injury of four security personnel affiliated with the Syrian government following an IED attack on an armored military vehicle on Jassem-Inkhil road in the northern countryside of Daraa.

Last week, Daraa and its countryside witnessed sporadic attacks by unknown assailants leading to the death of four people in different areas of the governorate.

In another context, the government forces attacked a woman and her husband from a Bedouin clan living in a tent in Suwayda Governorate on the Sayda-Kaheel road, east of Daraa.

Local sources told North Press that the government forces indiscriminately shot fire, killing a woman, and injuring her son, then arrested her husband without further information about the cause of the shooting.

Landmine kills child, injures father in southern Deir ez-Zor
[NPASyria] A child lost his life and his father was injured in a landmine blast, likely of the war remnants of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS), at the town of al-Shola in the southern countryside of Deir Ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source told North Press, "Twelve-year-old child Yihya Hamdan lost his life while his father sustained injuries in all of his body in a landmine explosion of the ISIS war remnants in the al-Shola desert, south of Deir ez-Zor."

The source added that mine went kaboom! with the child and his father while they were searching for desert truffles. The father was taken to the al-Assad Hospital in Deir ez-Zor and he is in a critical condition due to receiving shrapnel in his head and chest.

Remnants of war spread heavily in Deir ez-Zor countryside given that the region was the last stronghold for ISIS before its defeat in 2018.

On Thursday, a child lost his life and others were maimed in a similar explosion in the town of al-Husainiyah, 5 km north of Deir ez-Zor.

Christian monument vandalized in northeast Syria
[Rudaw] A monument commemorating the massacre of Christians a century ago has been vandalized in northeast Syria, an attack condemned by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) commander as trying to stoke tensions.

The "Sayfo 1915 Syriac genocide monument... has been vandalized" Saturday morning, the Syriac Military Council (MFS) announced on Twitter, condemning the attack "against our memory, history and remembrance."

The monument was unveiled in June 2016 by Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church. It was built to commemorate atrocities committed by the Ottoman Empire against Syriac Christians a hundred years earlier, known as the Sayfo massacre.

Photos published by the MSF show a plaque on the monument had been smashed and a cross appears to have been damaged.

The General Commander of the SDF Mazloum Abdi condemned the act, calling it "unacceptable."

"It is considered an attack on Syriac deaders to create regional tensions. We condemn such hateful attacks and affirm the friendship and solidarity of the people of our region," he tweeted.

On the day of the monument’s inauguration in 2016, a jacket wallah killed three members of a Christian militia at an event in Qamishli commemorating the massacre.
