Afghanistan
Austrian man arrested in Afghanistan, accused of spying
[AMUtv] Vienna has confirmed an Austrian man is being held in Afghanistan but the foreign ministry did not give details around his arrest nor did they identify the man.

News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported the man arrived in Afghanistan in May after he traveled to the country earlier this year.

The Austrian daily Der Standard, which first reported on the case, said the man is a veteran far-right murderous Moslem in his 80s and was a co-founder of a minor far-right party that was banned in 1988, the National Democratic Party
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
It said that he has been in jug for a few weeks, since shortly after a far-right magazine published an article he wrote titled "Vacation with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
" in which he gave a positive view of life in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. According to the report, he is accused of spying and Austrian neo-Nazi
...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both....
s made his case public via Telegram channels.

According to Der Standard, the Austrian — whom it identified only as Herbert F. — has been a keen traveler to dangerous locations, visiting Afghanistan in the 1980s and, a few years ago, visiting Kurds fighting against the ISIS group in northern Syria.

The Austrian is among a number of foreign nationals being held in jug by the Taliban — including three British men.

Charity medic Kevin Cornwell, 53, and another British national who manages a hotel for aid workers in Kabul have been detained by the Taliban’s secret police since early January.

The third Brit being held is Miles Routledge, 23, who returned to the country after being evacuated by British armed forces less than two years ago during the fall of Kabul after he traveled to Afghanistan for a "holiday" and was caught up in the chaos of the Taliban takeover.

There are also reportedly a number of other foreign nationals being held as Taliban prisoners. Foreign Policy reported in April that "multiple foreign nationals", including Americans and Europeans, were in prisons in Afghanistan — including American and Polish citizens.

Daily Evacuation Brief June 14, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • FLOODS IN BADAKHSHAN DISRUPT COMMUNICATIONS, CLAIM LIVES – The official count of those killed in the flooding in Badakhshan stands at 6 with another 8-16 injured. However, accurate reporting from the Province has been difficult due to a communications breakdown in cellular services. It is not clear when the systems will be brought back online.

  • PAKISTAN DEPORTS OVER 500 AFGHAN REFUGEES TUESDAY – Taliban authorities confirmed that Pakistan had deported approximately 530 Afghan refugees through Spin Boldak Gate on Tuesday. The majority of the refugees had reportedly crossed into Pakistan via Spin Boldak on Sunday and Monday but were turned around and forced back across the border due to a lack of legitimate travel documents.

  • ICRC PLANS TO EXPAND PROGRAMS – ICRC officials announced that an expansion of their programs would soon start after meetings with Taliban officials in Kandahar concluded on Tuesday. It was not clear if the expansion was solely for Kandahar Province or, more widely distributed across the country. Health care was the primary sector where assistance was required. Details on which programs would be expanded and in what sectors have not yet been provided.

  • CANADA ANNOUNCES NEW ECONOMIC PROGRAM FOR SKILLED REFUGEES – The Minister of Immigration, Sean Fraser, announced the launch of 2 new pathways to attract refugees and displaced persons with skills needed in the Canadian economy. The Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot allows employers in Canada to peruse a pool of skilled laborers from among those displaced populations in order to fill critical experience gaps. The program promises to be faster than traditional pathways while also doing away with the requirement of having to have worked for the Canadian government in some fashion. The two programs are organized along the following lines:

    • Skilled refugees who currently hold job offers from Canadian companies.

    • Skilled refugees without such offers.

  • More information about the programs can be accessed HERE.

Parwan: A Taliban fighter was reportedly killed by an unidentified Resistance group mid-morning in an unidentified location within the province.

NEXT 24 HOURS
SOME TTP MEMBERS REPORTEDLY PREPARING TO RESIST FORCED DISPLACEMENTS ALONG THE DURAND LINE – A source in Kabul said that a senior Taliban commander had been sent to discuss the resettlement program with Waziri tribal elders in order to prevent any bloodshed when the program begins. While several community meetings have already taken place, this meeting was organized after Kabul received reports that local TTP members had disappeared from the communities and a report of a convoy of trucks that may have been carrying arms and ammunition from Pakistan reputedly crossed the border to the North of the fence and is thought to consist of arms shipments intended for the TTP on the Afghan side of the border. Kabul does not currently know if the TTP fighters intend to resist the Taliban when the time comes or if they plan to launch operations against Pakistani border forces. While we have no confirmation of this information, it seems feasible that TTP loyalists will likely resist the resettlement effort. Kabul was unsure of how many TTP members may be consolidating in the area, or where they have established a rally point.

Chadian opponent arrested for supporting tribesmen fighting in Sudan
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Security authorities in N’Djamena, on Sunday, arrested an opposition member who voiced support for Chadian Arab rustics fighting alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.

The arrest followed a video posted on June 7 by Hissein Alamine Tchaw-tchaw, a Chadian dissident and leader of the rebel Movement for the Fight of the Oppressed in Chad (MFOC), showing his participation in the attack on the Yarmouk munitions factory in Khartoum.

The video generated controversy in both Sudan and Chad, as the MFOC is an gang aiming to overthrow the government of President Mohammed Idriss Deby.

Commenting on the controversy, Chad’s former ambassador to Egypt, Allamine Adoudou, a declared government opponent, stated that Tchaw-tchaw’s participation was expected and influenced by his blood ties with RSF commanders.

He further emphasized that the current political border between the two countries is artificial, imposed by colonizers, and fails to consider the significant ethnic and tribal overlap.

"There is a large number of Sudanese known as ToraBora, estimated at 15,000, who are now part of the Chadian army; they know, and we know they are of Sudanese origin," Adoudou added in an audio recording obtained by Sudan Tribune, referring to the Zaghawa ethic of President Deby.

Several news sites in Chad, including Alwihdainfo and Lendjampost, reported that the Internal Security Service arrested Adoudou at about 05.00 pm local time after releasing an audio recording in WhatsApp groups defending taking side with Tchaw-tchaw.

The former ambassador, a professor at the University of N’Djamena, was arrested several times, most recently after participating in demonstrations denouncing the French presence in Chad.

Sudanese army commanders accused the RSF of recruiting mercenaries from Chad, Mali and Niger Arab tribes. On June 9, Lt Gen Shams al-Din Kabbashi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said that the Sudanese army is fighting foreign mercenaries.

#1  An intra-Zaghawa struggle. Should the RSF be successful in the Sudan and take charge of the western provinces, Chad President Idriss Deby could see it as a potential rival for power in Chad. As is pointed out in this article, the frontier between Chad and the Sudan is a European construct not based on an ethnic reality. The reorganization of the Sudan began with the independence of southern Sudan. Now, the Hadendowa are restless in the east, and the Zaghawa in the west. Are we seeing a further fracturing of the Sudan? We shall soon see.

Tijuana's Mayor Moves into Military Barracks After Threats from Drug Cartels
[Times of San Diego] The mayor of Tijuana, Montserrat Caballero, has moved into military barracks for her safety after she received threats, the Mexico’s president said on Tuesday.

Tijuana has become one of Mexico’s more dangerous cities as criminal groups fight over drug trafficking routes into the United States.

"She’s being protected, since about two weeks ago," Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said during his regular press conference. "We reached an agreement to help protect her and will continue to do so."

Murder rates fell last year but the government of Lopez Obrador is still on track to register a record total of murders for any six-year administration.

Caballero, who is a member of Lopez Obrador’s National Regeneration Movement known as MORENA, told reporters in a video shared on social media on Monday that she had received more threats after confiscating 1,700 firearms from criminal groups and detaining 56 people.

"They are angry," she said. "And that’s why I’ve been receiving threats."

Paleostinian is killed in clash as IDF troops operate in Nablus’s Balata refugee camp to arrest desperados

Four Israeli soldiers and a civilian were maimed in a drive-by shooting attack in the northern West Bank on Tuesday afternoon, the military and medics said. A maimed Israeli motorist, 33, reported coming under fire from a passing car at the Efes intersection located between the settlements of Mevo Dotan and Hermesh, west of the Paleostinian city of Jenin.

IDF prepares to raze West Bank home of second Dee family terrorist
[IsraelTimes] Troops map the Nablus home of Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, terrorist Moaz al-Masri; Paleostinians throw stones, explosives at soldiers who return fire

The Israeli military early Tuesday morning made preparations for the demolition of the home of a Paleostinian terrorist who carried out a deadly shooting attack on the Dee family in the West Bank in April.

On April 7, Hamas snuffies Moaz al-Masri and Hassan Qatnani shot up Lucy Dee, 48, and her daughters Maia Dee, 20, and Rina Dee, 15, as they drove through the northern Jordan Valley. The daughters were declared dead at the scene, while Lucy was rushed to a hospital at death's door but died three days later.

Qatnani and al-Masri, along with a third Paleostinian gunman, were killed in an Israeli raid in Nablus in early May.

In the predawn hours of Tuesday morning, the Israel Defense Forces said troops measured al-Masri’s home — the first step before its potential demolition — in the Rafidiya neighborhood in the West Bank city of Nablus.

Troops had already mapped out Qatani’s home.

The IDF said "the mappings were carried out for the purpose of examining the possibility of demolishing the homes."

During the operation, Paleostinians threw stones and bombs and fired at the Israeli forces, who responded with live fire, the army said.

There were no immediate reports of injuries on either side.

The IDF also said that it had arrested nine people across the West Bank in overnight raids and confiscated several weapons.

As a matter of policy, Israel regularly demolishes the homes of Paleostinians accused of carrying out deadly terror attacks as well as their accomplices. The efficacy of the policy has been hotly debated even within the Israeli security establishment, while human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
activists denounce the practice as unjust collective punishment. The demolition process generally takes several months, as the home needs to be mapped out, the High Court must address potential appeals by the family, and security forces often wait for an optimal time to enter Paleostinian cities or neighborhoods for the operation.

Tensions between Israel and the Paleostinians have been elevated for the past year, with the military carrying out near-nightly raids in the West Bank, in the wake of a series of deadly Paleostinian terror attacks.

Since the beginning of the year, Paleostinian attacks in Israel and the West Bank have killed 20 people and left several more seriously hurt.

According to a tally by The Times of Israel, 116 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed during that span, most of them during festivities with security forces.

Jordan announces that it downed a drone loaded with narcotics coming from Syria
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Jordanian army said on Tuesday it downed a drone loaded narcotics that was coming from Syrian territory.

A military source of the Jordanian army said, "The officers at the border, in coordination with the military security services and the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), detected a drone attempting to illegally cross the border from Syrian territory into Jordanian territory, which was shot down inside Jordanian territory."

The Jordanian border witnesses regular smuggling attempts, as Jordan’s forces are working to monitor smuggling operations and thwart them.

The source added that the drone was carrying 500 grams of crystal meth,
...a test sample on the viability of the delivery method?
which was seized and transferred to the competent authorities.
Method fail. Q.E.D.
With the increase of drug trafficking attempts to Jordan through Syria, Amman announced it would change the rules of combating to prevent the flow of drugs.

"The Jordanian army will deal firmly with any infiltration or smuggling attempt in order to protect citizens and the security of the Kingdom’s borders," the source noted.

Early in May, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi threatens with a military operation inside Syria in case "effective measures" to curb drug smuggling were not taken by the latter.

Drug trade is overwhelming southern Syria, as the price of a kilogram of hashish varies between 50.000-75.000 Syrian Pounds (SYP, equals $7-10), and a captagon pill costs only 500 SYP ($0.068).

Several international reports, headed by the US Department of the Treasury, accuse the Syrian government and the Lebanese Hezbollah militia of running large drug trafficking networks in this border area, as well as other Syrian regions.

Suspected Turkish drone injures three Syrian soldiers in Aleppo
[Rudaw] Three Syrian soldiers were maimed in Aleppo province on Tuesday in an aerial attack blamed on The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
, reported a war monitor.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said a Syrian officer and two other soldiers were maimed after a "Ottoman Turkish drone" targeted a tank in northern Aleppo province. The tank was destroyed and the injured members of the Syrian army were taken to a hospital in the nearby Tal Rafaat town.

Neither the Syrian regime nor the Ottoman Turkish government have commented on the attack.

The UK-based war monitor also said that the same drone targeted a nearby town as well but did not cause casualties.

Turkey is the main supporter of Syrian rebels and both have fought the regime and Kurdish forces in the last decade.

Damascus has deployed troops to Syria’s borders with Turkey since 2019 when the Ottoman Turkish invasion of some Kurdish towns in northern Syria led to an agreement between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian army, allowing the latter to deploy forces to the bordering areas.

Turkey has recently sought reconciliation with the Syrian regime but Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

The source added that "Naasan," who hails from the town of al-Hwaiz in Ghab Plain west of Hama, is one of the pioneers to defect from the Syrian Army in 2012 and has involved in dozens battles against the government forces in Idlib and Hama.

Since early May, the HTS has been launching an arrest campaign in different areas in northwest Syria against people affiliated with Hizb Attahrir-Syria in the region.

Hizb Attahrir-Syria was founded at the beginning of the Syrian conflict. It calls for the establishment of the Islamic Caliphate. The party does not have a military wing, however, its activities are limited to just statements, brochures, and calling for demonstrations.

Lately, various areas in Idlib and Aleppo countryside have witnessed protests against arrests carried out by the HTS.

The HTS, founded in 2017, controls the city of Idlib and the western countryside of Aleppo, using the Salvation Government as a political and administrative umbrella since.

Manbij Military Council says 2 fighters killed in Turkish strikes
[NPASYRIA] The Manbij Military Council (MMC), affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Tuesday that two of its fighters were killed in two separate Ottoman Turkish drone attacks in the countryside of Manbij, northern Syria.

The MMC said in a statement that a Ottoman Turkish reconnaissance drone struck an MMC checkpoint in the village of Dirrig, and that a similar attack hit an MMC post in the vicinity of the Qaraqozaq Bridge, east of Manbij.

The statement added that both attacks, combined, resulted in the death of two MMC fighters.

Earlier today, Ottoman Turkish forces and their affiliated opposition factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) also shelled the village of Tukhar in northern Manbij with dozens of artillery and mortar shells from their base located in the village of Tukhar Kabir.

A local source from the village told North Press that "the Ottoman Turkish shelling damaged residents’ properties and caused a state of panic among the villagers.

The source noted that the village is populated and that there are posts of the Syrian government forces scattered in the northern part of the village.

Asayish reveal confessions of 'Turkish cell' tried to kill SDF leaders
[NPASYRIA] The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) released on Tuesday a video featuring the confessions of a "Ottoman Turkish cell" involved in espionage for Ottoman Turkish intelligence. The "cell" was also tasked with assassinating leaders of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the US-led Global Coalition.

The confession video, published by the Asayish, featured three individuals: Abdulaziz Khalo, 32, from Raqqa, and the two brothers Uday Ali Saleh, 21, and Qusai Ali Saleh, 22, both from Raqqa and residing in the Talae neighborhood in Hasakah.

The cell stated in their confessions that a person named Basim Khalo — who belongs to the Grey Wolves, a Ottoman Turkish far-right organization, and works with the Hamza Division, affiliated with the Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) — "asked us for information about the locations and names of SDF leaders in exchange for financial rewards based on the value of the provided information."

Abdulaziz Khalo said that he collaborated with his cousin, Qusai Ali Saleh, who provided him with information on the locations of weapons, trenches, and names of SDF leaders in exchange for an initial payment of $100.

He added that his cousin also sent him "the names of 27 leaders and 120 officials working in the SDF" in exchange for a payment. According to the confession, after two days of sending the information, they were asked to poison a joint military unit between the SDF and the Coalition through water or food in exchange for $10,000.

However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
the Asayish’s General Security Apparatus arrested them before going on with their plan.
