As someone who covered criminal court as an ink-stained wretch, I can tell you, some jurors will swallow anything they are told by one side or the other no matter how absurd.
You get a jury that favors - or disfavors - the defendant and that's pretty much how it rolls.
It's not like Perry Mason, that's for sure.
