Al-Shabaab claims seizure of small town in Somalia
[ShabelleMedia] Al-Shabaab
...... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
said it wrestled control of a small town in central Somalia from the national army (SNA).

The takeover came after a fierce shootout between the two sides that broke out after the snuffies stormed SNA base in Nuru-Nima village outside Runirgood district within Middle Shabelle region.

There was no immediate confirmation of the al-Shabaab claims that it took over the base, which was housing hundreds of SNA soldiers since last year.

Was a Wagner Base Targeted By a Drone in East Libya?
[LIBYAREVIEW] Unknown drones targeted a position belonging to the Wagner Group in eastern Libya on Thursday, without causing any human casualties.

The drones attacked the al-Kharouba airbase, which is located 150 kilometers Southeast of Benghazi.

A military source from the Libyan National Army denied the reports, stating that the alleged strikes were an attempt to undermine morale and prepare for targeting oil fields.

The Wagner Group is known to provide security for Saif al-Islam Qadaffy, the son of former Libyan President Muammar Qadaffy
...who single-handedly turned a moderately prosperous kingdom into a dictator's fantasyland and was then murdered by his indignant subjects 42 years later...
, who is running for presidential elections.

The Wagner Group has been present in Libya since April 2019, fighting alongside the Libyan National Army against the Government of National Accord (GNA).

The group has also been present in Mali, the Central African Republic (CAR), and Sudan, supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in their operations against the Sudanese army.

Last week, the Wagner Group launched a rebellion in Russia and took control of the Ministry of Defence headquarters in the city of Rostov. The group has since begun to withdraw from the positions they had taken in Russia, following an agreement with the Kremlin that halted their advance towards Moscow and led to the departure of their leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, to Belarus.

Despite this, Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov stated on Monday that the Wagner Group would continue its operations in Mali and the CAR, and is currently supporting the RSF in Sudan in their operations against the Sudanese army.

The Wagner Group’s presence is concentrated in areas where there are gold and oil reserves, where they provide protection and management for gold mines in Sudan under an agreement with the government of Omar al-Bashir
...Former President-for-Life of Sudan He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself head cheese. He fell out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Hee was overthrown by popular consent in 2019. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it...
in 2017.

It's carbeque season in France again...
Note to January 6th hysterics: this is what a real insurrection looks like. Zero Hedge liveblogged the events of Friday. Key bits:
Update (1545ET):
There are reports of "Tactical units driving through the streets of Marseille."

Update (1235ET):
Map at the link of hot spots in Paris and across France is useful and distressing.
French interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, said overnight chaos has resulted in 2,000 cars burned, 500 buildings damaged, hundreds of businesses looted, and violent clashes with police. He said over 800 people were arrested, with nearly 250 officers injured.

Earlier, Macron blamed social media for fueling 'copycat violence,' and said state agencies would ask Twitter, Snapchat, and Tiktok to ban the most "sensitive content."

Riots and vandalism continued throughout the day Friday. Darmanin said buses and trams would be shut down by 9 pm local time nationwide to suppress the overnight unrest.

Here are more scenes of the chaos:

French rioters attack journalists
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Several local journalists were attacked by rioters in the suburbs of Paris on the night of 30 June. This was reported by local media on social networks.

“This night in Montreuil, leaving a bar with colleagues from Media, we were taken by surprise by a group of people in hoods who set fire to the street ,” French journalist Cemil Sanli wrote on his Twitter account.

According to him, he was admitted to the emergency room with a mild head injury after being hit in the face and head.

“Last night, photographer Han Renaud , working at Le Pointe, was attacked and robbed by about ten rioters while covering the events in Nanterre ,” wrote journalist Geraldine Voesner on Twitter.

As IA Regnum reported, earlier the Figaro edition, citing its own sources in the French Ministry of the Interior, reported that law enforcement officers detained 421 rioters throughout the country. According to the source, most of the detainees are between 14 and 18 years old.
Precocious little shits.
Numerous protests across France began on June 28 after police stopped a car carrying a 17-year-old teenager

for inspection on Wednesday night. The young man refused to comply with the requirements, continuing to drive the car. The policeman opened fire and shot the teenager.

From Fred:
France considering 'all options' after worst riots since fatal shooting
Good choice.
[GEO.TV] After rioters torched buildings and cars and looted stores nationwide in a third night of rage sparked by the fatal police shooting of a teenager of North African descent, La Belle France on Friday said it was keeping "all options" on the table to restore order.

The 17-year-old's death, caught on video at a traffic stop, has ignited longstanding resentment among poor, racially mixed, urban communities over incidents of police violence and allegations of systemic racism within law enforcement.

More than 200 police were maimed and 875 people arrested overnight, authorities said, as rioters clashed with officers in towns and cities across La Belle France, with buildings as well as buses and other vehicles torched, and stores looted.

The government would consider "all options" for restoring order, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne told reports, earlier calling the violence "intolerable and inexcusable" in a tweet.

President Emmanuel Macron, in televised comments from a cabinet crisis meeting, said he would ask social media platforms to remove "the most sensitive" footage of rioting from their feeds, and to disclose to authorities the identities of users who foment violence.

Macron, who has so far ruled out declaring a state of emergency, left a European Union

summit in Brussels early to attend what was the second cabinet crisis meeting in two days.

He also said, without giving details, that some unspecified public events would be cancelled in regions hit by unrest.

In the southern city of Marseille, La Belle France's second-largest, authorities banned public demonstrations set for Friday, said all public transport would stop at 7pm local time, and encouraged restaurants to close outdoor eating areas early.

A Gay Paree public transportation source told broadcaster BFM TV that tram and bus services in the capital would end at 9pm each day until further notice.

In an earlier bid to quell the violence, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin had on Thursday night increased national police deployments fourfold to 40,000 officers, 249 of whom were maimed, the ministry said.

Energy Minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher said several staff of power distribution firm Enedis were also injured by stones thrown during the festivities.

The interior ministry said 79 police posts were attacked overnight, as well as 119 public buildings including 34 town halls and 28 schools.

Violence flared in Marseille, Lyon, Pau, Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
and Lille as well as parts of Gay Paree, including the working class suburb of Nanterre, where 17-year-old Nahel M — who was of Algerian and Moroccan descent — was rubbed out on Tuesday.

#8  Ace of Spades provides this interesting translation of a Le Figaro article about that 17 year old driver:

A dozen previous entries in his rap sheet for various crimes, concerning the 17-year-old killed at Nanterre.
Nahel was a boy well known to the police services. Despite his young age, the adolescent of 17 years, killed at a road checkpoint Tuesday June 27, was not his first brush with the law. The teen, at the wheel that day of an unregistered Mercedes with a Polish license plate, that he was driving without a license, had already been the object of a dozen arrests for various crimes, according to reliable sources. Processed at previous hearings, his name is attached to four counts of resisting arrest. Some of these were dismissed without action, another resulted in an order to attend school by a juvenile court judge, according to Europe 1. Finally, his last case of resisting arrest -- the fourth, before the current drama -- took place on June 24. Nahel had thus been placed under arrest and ordered to stand for trial in juvenile court in September. That did not stop him from reoffending three days later.

Interestingly, Twitter began to suppress user accounts in France that posted images and videos of the riots last Friday. Twitter even shut down accounts of non-France origin for posting about the riots. Because of French media law, Twitter avoided committing a criminal offense."

Security forces gun down six terrorists in Tank, N Waziristan: ISPR
[GEO.TV] Six turbans were bumped off by security forces in two encounters between the security forces and miscreants in Tank and North Wazoo Districts, said the military’s media wing in a statement.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) shared that an exchange of fire took place between the troops and turbans on Thursday night in the general area of Manzai, Tank District.

The security forces "effectively engaged the terrorists’ location," in which three miscreants were killed. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy's udder had begun to ache...
three bad boyz were potted in "another fierce encounter" in the general area of Razmak, North Waziristan District.

"The killed turbans remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces as well as killing of innocent citizens. Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any other turbans found in the area," said the ISPR.

Four turbans bumped off by security forces in KP
This is the second time in four days that turbans have been bumped off by security forces in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Security forces bumped off four terrorists, including a commander, in two separate intelligence-based operations (IBOs) conducted on Tuesday in KP's Bajaur and Khyber districts.

In Bajaur, the operation was launched after the security forces received a tip-off about the presence of turbans in the general area of Inayat Qilla.

During the operation, an intense fire exchange took place between security forces and turbans that resulted in the killing of three bully boys, including commander Shafi.

The operation in the Khyber district was conducted in the general area of Tirah, where a fire change took place between the security forces and terrorists.

In the shootout, one terrorist was killed, while another three were maimed. The forces also recovered weapons and ammunition from the killed terrorist.

The Matin mountain range is known for being an area where PKK bully boyz operate, and it has been a frequent target of Ottoman Turkish military operations.

Anti-overhaul protesters target ministers’ homes as government seeks crackdown
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrations outside residences of Gallant, Chikli, Silman and Levin held after the latter railed at top law enforcement officials over their handling of the rallies

Opponents of the government’s judicial overhaul rallied Friday outside the homes of several ministers, as demonstrators move to intensify protests against the coalition’s legislative efforts.

At Moshav Amikam in northern Israel, demonstrators gathered near the Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s home carrying Israeli flags and playing drums and vuvuzelas while chanting "democracy."

Outside Social Equality Minister Amichai Chikli’s home in Kibbutz Hanaton, protesters donned costumes from "The Handmaid’s Tale" — which have become a fixture at the anti-overhaul demonstrations — to decry the level of female representation in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, a week after Israel fell 23 spots to 83rd in the World Economic Forum’s annual global gender gap report.

Of the 33 ministers currently in the cabinet, six are women.

Protesters also rallied outside the homes of Justice Minister Yariv Levin and Environmental Protection Minister Idit Silman, who live in the central cities of Modiin and Rehovot, respectively.

Levin is a leading proponent of remaking the judicial system and has been a frequent target of protesters, six of whom were arrested Tuesday during a fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
demonstration outside his home. Silman was a member of the previous coalition before helping precipitate its collapse last year by defecting, prior to which she accused Netanyahu’s Likud party — which she now belongs to — of funding protests outside her house.

Demonstrations against the effort to remake the judicial system have gathered renewed steam over the past week as Likud has renewed its legislative push.

On Tuesday, the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice convened for additional deliberations on a bill to block justices from exercising judicial review over the "reasonableness" of government decisions. Coalition figures have vowed to pass such legislation before the Knesset summer recess in a month. And Netanyahu has stated his government will also move later on to reshape the powerful Judicial Selection Committee, though he has added this will take a different shape than Justice Minister Yariv Levin’s previous plan to assert full political control over the process.

While protesters somewhat lowered the flames over the past few months while the judicial overhaul legislation was paused, organizers said that now that the government has begun moving ahead in the Knesset with certain elements of the plan, they will renew efforts.

Police are bracing for an escalation in demonstrations that are expected over the weekend and early next week, with protest organizers calling for a blockade of Ben Gurion Airport on Monday.
