3 Dead, 7 Injured in Blast in Khost
[ToloNews] At least three people were killed and seven were maimed in a blast that occurred at a hotel in the capital city of Khost, a statement of provincial security department said.

Citing a statement of Khost security, Kabul's security front man, Khalid Zadran, said on Twitter that the blast happened at a hotel near Spin mosque in the city, in which a number of "Wazoo refugees" and "Khost residents" were killed and maimed.

The statement said that three dead bodies and seven maimed were brought to the hospital.

The area is surrounded by security forces and investigations are underway, the statement reads.

Daily Evacuation Brief August 15, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • BLAST TARGETS HOTEL FREQUENTED BY TTP MEMBERS IN KHOST – Significant confusion is swirling around a blast that took place yesterday in Khost Province. Initial reports suggested that the hotel had been struck by an aerial bomb or rocket but follow-up reporting has claimed that a bomb was detonated inside the hotel. Additional information is required before a determination of what method was employed to cause the destruction. As of publication, 3 people were confirmed to have been killed and 7 others were wounded. There are local eyewitness reports that claim the roof of the hotel collapsed and people are trapped in the rubble but this has yet to be confirmed. The Taliban cordoned off the area almost immediately and only emergency personnel have been allowed past the roadblocks. The Qari Zadran hotel in Khost is located in the downtown section and local sources say it is commonly frequented by people from Northern Waziristan and that TTP members often stay there.

  • POSSIBLE CLASHES REPORTED IN BADAKHSHAN – Reports from early yesterday morning indicated that a military situation was developing in the Shahada District. At the time of the reports, there was no active confrontation and details remain sparse. Footage of helicopters patrolling over the Province spread on social media and there is an unverified report that one of the helicopters had either crashed or been shot down. There was another report that stated people had been killed in the main hospital of Faizabad after some sort of dispute erupted between two unknown groups. Finally, the main roads into Faizabad are reportedly blocked by Taliban security vehicles at this time. The situation remains confused and it is not clear what has transpired in the Province.

  • IRANIAN WATER INSPECTION TEAM’S REPORT RAISES SIGNIFICANT QUESTIONS – The team of hydrologists who visited Afghanistan to check on water levels returned to Tehran with a perplexing report. The team, after many delays, was allowed to visit a single measuring station situated upstream from the Kajaki Dam. The team took the recordings directly from the instruments but were then denied a visit to the Dam itself. Several satellite photos have previously been shown as evidence that Afghanistan was holding reserves in the Dam’s reservoir for domestic use. Obviously, the friction between the two countries over the issue has not been resolved and will continue to cause issues between the neighbors.

  • UN HUMAN RIGHTS EXPERTS SAY THE TALIBAN 2.0 IS FAR FROM ‘REFORMED’ – Richard Bennett, the UN’s Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Afghanistan co-signed a statement that was released on Monday which casts doubt on the few existing claims that the Taliban have adopted a new ethos. The statement listed numerous human rights abuses that were the mainstays of the Taliban’s rule in the 1990s. The statement concluded with calls for the Taliban to reverse many of the discriminatory policies it had implemented and recommended several strategies the international community could use to change the situation.

NEXT 24 HOURS
KHOST WILL SEE A FLURRY OF SECURITY ACTIVITY AND WHATEVER IS GOING ON IN BADAKHSHAN COULD ESCALATE – Obviously, Khost will continue to see a large number of security forces in and around the Province. Active searches for both ISIS-K and TTP are expected. Until the situation in Badakhshan becomes clearer, we recommend that at-risk Afghans planning travel to/from the city of Faizabad consider delaying their plans.

Jubaland Intelligence averts Al-Shabaab bomb attack in Kismayo

Jubbaland state security forces carried out planned operations last night in one of the neighborhoods of Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
, the capital of the Lower Jubba region.

The command of the Jubbaland’s spy agency has revealed that during the operation, the troops foiled a landmine planted in one of the important roads in Kismayo city.

"Jubbaland Intelligence and Security Agency (JISA) unearthed a landmine that al-Shabaab
...... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
wanted to harm the people in peace," said the Intelligence Agency in a statement.

The command of the Jubbaland security agency also thanked the people in Kismayo and said they worked with them to prevent attacks and explosions by the al-Shabaab group.

In the city of Kismayo and its surroundings, there have been attacks including explosions and direct attacks by al-Shabaab on the regional forces and the SNA military bases.

In March this year, al-Shabaab gunnies raided the military Jana Cabdalle in Jubbaland, in an attack that came several weeks after the local forces conquered villages near Kismayo.

Meanwhile,
...back at the bunker, his Excellency called the chief of staff and complained that the artillery was keeping him awake...
the Jubaland regional intelligence agency said that security forces conducted an operation in the vicinity of Welmarow village, killing 17 al-Shabaab bad boys.

Kenyan troops handed over Geriley’s base in Gedo was handed to Somali forces on June 29 as part of the publicized drawdown of 2,000 soldiers ahead of a full exit by Dec 2024.

Mexico found refrigerators with the remains of at least 13 people
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The remains of at least 13 people were discovered in the city of Poza Rica, Veracruz state in Mexico.
We have on file special images for eight of Mexico’s states, created for badanov’s Mexican Drug War reports. Veracruz, strangely enough, is not one of them.
That's coz I reported on drug war news in the top northern two tiers of states. Veracruz is well south on Mexico's east/Atlantic coast.
:-)
The prosecutor of the region Veronica Hernandez Giadans told reporters about the course of the investigation of the criminal case .

Police have arrested six people in the case as suspects in the murders.

According to the prosecutor, there is a possibility of finding even more dead during the identification process.

The remains of men and women were found in freezers in two buildings in the city on 13 August.

As IA Regnum reported , the remains of a woman were found in a private house in the Chelyabinsk region, where a man held a girl captive for 14 years.

In this house, since 2009, a man held and raped his friend. At the time of the abduction, the girl was 19 years old.

A criminal case was opened against a resident of the Chelyabinsk region for kidnapping after a captive escaped from him. The woman was able to leave the house when the man was admitted to the hospital due to an exacerbation of mental illness. In 2009, according to investigators, the suspect lured the girl to his house under the pretext of a joint feast.

Spanish police dismantle network for smuggling Syrian immigrants
[NPASyria] Spanish police announced on Sunday that they dismantled a network for smuggling Syrian immigrants colonists from Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozeen flavors of Christians. It is the home of Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
to Spain, Germany, Norway.

The police arrested 19 suspects of a criminal network involved in illegal smuggling, of which six have entered pretrial detention.

The police stated that they "disrupted the logistical structure of a criminal organization specialized in smuggling Syrian migrants colonists" in Spain in cooperation with Europol and the German Federal Police.

Investigators noted that the dismantled network was part of an extensive criminal network throughout different countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. They received €20,000 per person to be smuggled by air, sea and land.

Over 12 million Syrians remained forcibly displaced, including almost 6.8 million within the country and 5.4 million living as refugees in neighboring countries, according to the UN.

Border agents seize enough lethal drugs this fiscal year to kill more than 6 billion people
[JustTheNews] U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials alone have seized enough lethal drugs this fiscal year through June to kill more than 6.4 billion people.

The amounts of lethal doses they’ve seized of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine are enough to kill the U.S. population 19 times.

Fiscal year through June, CBP agents have seized 22,000 pounds of fentanyl at ports of entry nationwide, according to most recent data. They also seized 175,000 pounds of methamphetamine and over 70,000 pounds of cocaine.

These amounts are greater than what was seized in all of fiscal 2022.

Two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose. One pound, equivalent to 453,592.4 milligrams, is enough to kill 226,796 people. Twenty-two thousand pounds is enough to kill nearly 5 billion people.

According to AddictionResources.net, a lethal dose of cocaine is over 30 mg; a lethal dose of methamphetamine is an estimated 200 milligrams. Based on these estimates and the seizure amounts, CBP agents seized enough lethal doses of meth to kill nearly 397 million people and enough lethal doses of cocaine to kill over one billion people.

Combined, fiscal year through June, enough lethal drugs have been seized by CBP alone to kill over 6.4 billion people – greater than 19 times the U.S. population of over 335 million.

These seizures exclude those made by state and other federal agencies.

In Texas, for example, over 422 million lethal doses of fentanyl have been seized through its border security mission Operation Lone Star.

In Arizona, one multiagency effort resulted the seizure of enough illicit drugs, including fentanyl, to kill over 40 million people.

In one single carload bust in Los Angeles, authorities seized enough fentanyl to kill over 600,000 people.

In Florida, one multiagency bust seized enough fentanyl to kill the state’s entire population, and that was after a previous bust that seized enough to kill half the state’s population.

Last year, DEA agents seized over 58 million fake prescription pills laced with fentanyl, and 13,000 pounds of fentanyl powder in 2022, “enough fentanyl to supply a potentially lethal dose to every member of the U.S. population. These seizures occurred in every state in the country.”

Last fall, the DEA issued a public safety alert stating six out of every 10 fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills its experts analyzed in 2022 contained a potentially lethal dose, an increase from four out of 10 pills tested in 2021.

#4  If they catch 25 percent of what is coming in, I would be very surprised. We are awash in deadly drugs and the flood is coming in as Mayorkas is implementing policies that accelerate the invasion that will financially sink us. The drugs are rolling right on the mules that use the people as a diversion. The graph of fentanyl deaths ought to seal an Mayorkas impeachment. Anyone trying to keep Mayorkas in power and Biden, for that matter, ought to have their property rezoned as a burial plot.

Philadelphia teen charged with plotting potentially 'catastrophic terrorist attack'
[NYPOST] A Philadelphia teenager has been charged with plotting a potentially "catastrophic terrorist attack" after federal authorities discovered the teen had been allegedly communicating with an al-Qaeda-affiliated terror group and gathering bomb-making material.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody by FBI SWAT officers at his home in West Philadelphia on Aug. 11 after an investigation headed by the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, officials revealed Monday.

The unnamed teen is suspected to have been in contact with Katibat al Tawhid wal Jihad,
...the Syrian branch of this Al Qaeda franchise is the Uzbeks/Tajiks/Uighurs section allied to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in Idlib Province, having pulled together fighters from the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, Katibat Imam al Bukhari, and Turkestan Islamic Party. It was listed a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) in March, 2022. Back home they mostly cause trouble in post-Soviet Central Asia, Russia and Xinjiang of the Uygur Autonomous Region of China...
an organization designated as a global terrorist group by the State Department in 2022.

The group, which has links to al Qaeda, primarily operates in Syria’s Idlib Province but is also believed to be responsible for the April 2017 metro attack in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and an August 2016 suicide boom-mobileing outside the Chinese Embassy in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

The juvenile allegedly received guidance from the terror group on how to construct improvised bombs and FBI agents observed the teen purchasing bomb-making materials and "outdoor or tactical gear" before his arrest.

"The work of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force potentially thwarted a catastrophic terrorist attack in the name of a perverted ideology that in no way, shape, or form represents the beliefs of the overwhelming majority of peace-seeking people of faith, including Moslems," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Monday.

"The charges we have filed against this individual represent the most serious alleged terrorist activity prosecuted in Philadelphia County court in recent history. We intend to pursue full accountability for these crimes and will continue to work vigilantly with our law enforcement partners to protect all of our communities from hateful, ideologically driven acts of violence," he added.

The suspect, who wasn’t named by officials because of his status as a juvenile, will avoid federal charges for now. US attorney offices generally do not handle juvenile cases, even those related to terrorism.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office will file a motion to prosecute the suspect as an adult and charges could be escalated to the federal level as the investigation continues, Krasner said Monday.

The teenager has been charged with weapons of mass destruction, criminal conspiracy, arson, causing/risking catastrophe, attempt to commit criminal mischief, possession of an instrument of crime, and recklessly endangering another person.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Jacqueline Maguire said Monday that the teenager "appeared to be taking steps to travel overseas for the purpose of joining, or supporting, terrorist activity."

"Most concerning however, was the evidence that he had access to firearms and had purchased items and materials commonly used in the construction of improvised bombs," McGuire said.

In the last few weeks, the suspect had allegedly been surveilled purchasing tactical equipment, chemicals, wiring, and devices that could be used as remote detonators.

On Aug. 8, 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection also provided records to authorities which revealed 14 international shipments of military and tactical gear to the juvenile’s address.

"I think it’s very fair to say that lives were saved because of this investigation," McGuire added.

A 2018 bulletin from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence warns that teenagers are "particularly vulnerable" to being radicalized by terror groups that often gear their messaging toward youths, and plots and attacks by minors in the US and abroad are "likely to endure."

"ISIS and al-Qa’ida continue to influence minors through online messaging to plan and conduct attacks," the DNI memo states. "For example, in October 2018, the al-Abd al-Faqir Media Foundation—a pro-ISIS media outfit—launched its first Arabic-language magazine titled ’Youth Of The Caliphate,’ aimed at young supporters."

The missive to law enforcement notes that there were "few identifiable behaviors that raised suspicion or concern" in several terrorism cases involving minors, underscoring the challenge law enforcement face in identifying juvenile terrorists.

"Violent bad boys’ use or encouragement of minors to conduct attacks probably stems in part from their desire to influence impressionable supporters and circumvent CT security measures that monitor for suspicious activities conducted by adults," the DNI note states.

Jordan downs crystal meth-laden drone from Syria
[Rudaw] A drone laden with crystal meth that was flying into Jordan from neighboring Syria was shot down by the Jordanian military on Sunday, state news agency Petra reported.

The drone was "taken under control and shot down," the report said, citing a military official.

Jordan has become a transit point of drugs, particularly captagon, being smuggled out of Syria which has turned into a Middle Eastern hub for narcotics. The Jordanian military has previously downed drones carrying narcotics, as well as weapons, but crystal meth has been rarely identified.

There was no comment by Syrian authorities regarding the incident.

In early May, an Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
killed a prominent drug pusher and his family in southern Syria, with a war monitor stating that the strike had been carried out by Jordan. Amman has not confirmed whether it was behind the strike.

Numerous meetings have taken place between Jordanian and Syrian officials in an attempt to curb the illicit drug trade, but Amman remains dissatisfied with the outcome of these talks. The highest-level meeting took place in July between Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
A statement from the Jordanian foreign ministry said that Safadi and Assad agreed to form a joint committee to combat drug smuggling, and hold its first meeting in Amman as soon as possible.

Safadi emphasized danger represented by drug smuggling through the Syrian borders into Jordan and the necessity of cooperation to combat it.

The meeting followed Assad’s return to the Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
in May following over a decade of isolation. Jordan, as well as other members of the league, have used the Syrian president’s return to the Arab fold as an opportunity to increase security cooperation with Syria to deal with the cross-border drug smuggling issue.

Shin Bet foils 9-man Hamas cell planning kidnapping of soldier in West Bank
[IsraelTimes] Agency says Paleostinian suspects from Biddu also sought to carry out shooting and bombing attacks against Israeli forces

The Shin Bet security agency on Monday said it foiled plans by a Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, terror cell to kidnap a soldier and carry out shooting and bombing attacks in the West Bank.

Nine Paleostinians were arrested by Israeli security forces during the past month over their suspected involvement in establishing the cell on behalf of the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip-based Hamas, in the West Bank town of Biddu on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

The Shin Bet said the investigation of the suspects revealed that they were planning to kidnap an Israeli soldier, and were additionally planning to carry out shooting attacks and bombing attacks against Israeli forces in the central West Bank.

"The members of the cell armed themselves, prepared explosives, mapped out escape routes, and conducted intelligence-gathering tours in order to learn the routine of the soldiers’ activities in the Binyamin area, and even prepared a place to hide the abductee," the Shin Bet said.

The agency said the suspects set up a bomb-making lab in a residential home in Biddu.

Security forces who raided the lab seized raw materials for making explosives, a makeshift "Carlo" submachine gun, and "maps on which they sketched the planning of the attacks and the escape routes," the Shin Bet said.

The agency said that "in light of the severity of the attack that they planned, the members of the cell operated in an isolated manner, while maintaining maximum secrecy in order to avoid revealing their activities."

In September 2021, the Shin Bet and Israel Defense Forces foiled a large Hamas network in the West Bank planning major attacks, arresting more than 50 members. In Biddu, troops killed three Hamas button men and later located a large cache of explosives.

The Shin Bet said some of the members of the network that was disrupted two years ago, residents of Biddu, are relatives of the Paleostinians detained this past month. The recently detained suspects were not named.

Israeli officials generally believe that Hamas is seeking to carry out attacks in the West Bank and in Israel while maintaining relative calm in the Gaza Strip, where it serves as the de facto ruler.

"Hamas [in the West Bank] continues to try to destabilize the area with the support and direction of the Hamas headquarters abroad and in Gaza," the Shin Bet said, adding that it "blatantly ignores the heavy price paid" by uninvolved Paleostinians.

Turkey also deported 125 Syrians, including 29 women with their children, to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front) the source added.

Other sources pointed out that the deportation was done after taking all the identity papers from the refugees and taking their fingerprints and iris scans so that cannot go back to Turkey without notifying their relatives in Turkey.

In late July, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed that “more than 600,000 displaced people have returned to the country.” In May, Erdogan said that Turkey is working on ensuring the “voluntary return” of one million Syrian refugees.

Turkish authorities hand over 10 Syrians to HTS in northern Idlib

[NPASyria] After detaining them for two weeks, Ottoman Turkish authorities handed over on Monday 10 Syrians, including a women, to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else

An exclusive source informed North Press that the detainees were arrested while attempting to cross the border into The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

from Kherbet al-Jouz, western Idlib. After getting captured, they had spent two weeks in detention in Turkey’s Antakya.

The source also added that this is the fifth handover process in August, noting that all detainees are investigated in Turkey before sending them back to Syria.

"The number of detainees handed over to HTS through the Bab al-Hawa crossing in August has reached 85 individuals," according an administrative source in Bab al-Hawa border crossing.

Turkish authorities deport 2 Moroccan tourists to Syria

[NPASyria] On Monday, two Moroccan tourists were deported to Syria with a group of Syrian refugees through Bab al-Salam border crossing, northern Aleppo. They were transferred to a security center in Azaz, northern Syria.

An exclusive source informed North Press that Ottoman Turkish authorities handed over the Ottoman Turkish-backed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), 18 detainees via the Bab al-Salam crossing. The SNA subsequently transferred them to an anti-terrorism center for further investigation.

The source noted that during the investigation of the deportees, it was discovered that two of them were Moroccan nationals who had mistakenly been deported while they were in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
as tourists.

The source also added that the Ottoman Turkish intelligence transferred the two tourists to Bab al-Salam crossing and gave them back all their documents.

This confusion occurred because Ottoman Turkish authorities do not thoroughly check the data of people suspected to be Syrians; instead, they simply confiscate their documents and deport them immediately and urgently, according to the source.

The source noted that the two Moroccans are Izz ad-Din Ramash bin Abd al-Rahim, 27, and Nabil Rushdie Ahmad 30.

The source said this is not the first incident of its kind. A week ago, an Algerian was deported to Idlib, northern Syria, via Bab al-Hawa border crossing while he was in Turkey as a tourist. He was then returned by his embassy.

Mansouri freezes assets of Salameh and close associates
[An Nahar] Leb
...an Iranian colony situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel.
's interim central bank governor Wassim Mansouri on Monday froze the accounts of the bank's embattled former chief and close relatives and associates days after the United States, United Kingdom and Canada slapped sanctions on them.

Mansouri's decision was made public following a meeting of the central bank's Special Investigation Commission. The commission is in charge of fighting money laundering and terrorism financing. It named former Gov. Riad Salameh, his son Nady, brother Raja, close associate Marianne Hoayek and former partner Anna Kosakova.

Mansouri ordered all accounts in Lebanese banks and financial institutions of the five individuals be frozen. It also lifts bank secrecy requirements of the individuals at the request of judicial authorities.

Riad Salameh's mobile phone was off when contacted for comment by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

Salameh, 73, ended his 30-year tenure on July 31 under a cloud of investigation and blame for Lebanon's historic economic crisis.

La Belle France, Germany, and Luxembourg are investigating Salameh and close associates over alleged financial crimes, including illicit enrichment and the laundering of $330 million. Gay Paree and Berlin issued Interpol notices on Salameh in May, though Lebanon does not hand over its citizens to foreign countries.

The U.S. Treasury Department said last week that the U.S. coordinated the sanctions with the U.K. and Canada and that assets connected to Salameh would be frozen.

Salameh has repeatedly denied allegations of corruption, embezzlement and illicit enrichment. He insists that his wealth comes from inherited properties, investments and his previous job as an investment banker at Merrill Lynch.

Salameh is also being investigated in Lebanon. The Lebanese judiciary took his passports and imposed a travel ban soon after receiving the Interpol notices.

Salameh has criticized the European probe and said it was part of a media and political campaign to scapegoat him.

Iran arrests four seven more after deadly attack at Shiite shrine, all foreigners

to avenge execution of two men involved in attack on same site last year

Iranian authorities have arrested four more suspects after detaining a lone gunman in the killing of at least one person at a Shiite Moslem shrine, state media reported on Monday.

The attack came less than a year after a similar one on the same holy site, the Shah Cheragh mausoleum in Shiraz, the capital of Fars province in Iran’s south.

The official IRNA news agency quoted Fars provincial chief justice Kazem Mousavi as saying that "four suspects have so far been arrested for links to the attack."

The four are in addition to the gunman whose arrest was announced on Sunday night by Fars commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Yadollah Bouali, who spoke on state TV.

In addition to the one fatality, eight people were maimed, IRNA reported.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Fars provincial governor Mohammad Hadi Imanieh blamed the holy warrior Islamic State group.

He told state TV that the assailant sought "to take Dire Revenge for the execution of two terrorists" convicted of carrying out the similar attack last year.
Rudaw adds:
Iranian security forces on Monday announced they had arrested eight people suspected of being involved in a deadly attack on a major Shiite holy site in Fars province’s Shiraz the day before, adding that all the suspects were “foreigners”.

Gunmen attacked Shiraz’s holy Shah Cheragh mosque on Sunday, killing at least two people and injuring eight others. No parties have claimed responsibility for the incident, but Iran has blamed the Islamic State (ISIS) for the attack.

Chief Justice of Fars province Kazem Mousavi revealed that they had discovered the “safe house” of the suspects in Sunday’s attack, arresting eight people, all of whom were foreign nationals, according to Iranian state media (IRNA).

One of the gunmen was immediately arrested after the clashes with the security forces at the mausoleum’s gates. Mousavi said that the gunmen has been identified as a Tajikistani national.
From Dawn, the main suspect arrested Sunday night after the attack has been identified as Rahmatollah Nowruzof from Tajikistan.
