Afghanistan
Panjshir Resident Tortured to Death by the Taliban in Herat
[8am] Distressing news has emerged from local sources in Panjshir, reporting the tragic death of a resident from this province who fell victim to brutal torture at the hands of the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
in Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
. The individual, originally planning to travel to Iran, was apprehended by the Taliban at the Islam Qala border crossing. Subsequently, he underwent severe torture during his 22-day captivity in Herat, which ultimately led to his untimely demise.

According to accounts provided by Hasht-e Subh, the victim has been identified as Fayazul-Haq. On Tuesday, August 22, reports indicate that he was "strangled" within the confines of the Herat prison by Taliban operatives.

Further information reveals that the Taliban has yet to release the remains of the dear departed to his grieving family, adding to their distress.

It is noteworthy that Fayazul-Haq did not possess a military background. The pretext for his apprehension was a "photograph in military attire" found on his computer. This single piece of evidence led to his arrest and subsequent incarceration in Herat.

Up to this point, the Taliban has not issued any official statement regarding this distressing incident.

It is important to underscore that since assuming power, the Taliban have detained hundreds of Panjshir residents, subjecting them to imprisonment and, in some dire cases, execution.

Throughout the two years of the Taliban’s rule over Afghanistan, numerous human rights

organizations have levelled accusations against the group, citing widespread human rights violations and the assassination of former military personnel.

In a recent development, the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has published a report documenting approximately 800 instances of human rights abuses perpetrated by the Taliban.

Daily Evacuation Brief August 24, 2023
[AfghanDigest] LAST 24 HOURS
  • ISIS-K CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR MONDAY BOMB BLAST IN KABUL – In a post on the ISIS-K Telegram channel yesterday, the terrorist group took credit for the bomb blast that was reported on Monday in Police District 6 of Kabul. 2 people died as a result of the blast but it is not yet clear if those killed were ISIS members, Taliban, or innocent bystanders.

  • IRAN’S AMBASSADOR IN KABUL DEMANDS RELEASE OF IRANIAN JOURNALIST – Kabul Kazemi Qoomi, Iran’s top diplomat in Kabul called on the Taliban to immediately release Mohammad Hossein Velayati, an Iranian photojournalist (Tasnim News agency) who was arrested earlier in the week on unspecified charges. A source in Kabul says that charges of spying for Iran are rumored to be behind Velayati’s detention. Other rumors say he refused to pay a bribe to a Taliban security forces member when passing a checkpoint. The Taliban have not commented on the matter as of yet.

  • REFUGEES ATTEMPTING TO CROSS INTO GREECE FROM TURKEY WARNED OF WILDFIRE DANGERS – Uncontrolled fires in certain areas along the border (Thrace) have made crossings extremely dangerous and there are unconfirmed reports that human smuggling operations may have resulted in the deaths of some refugees who were caught in the fires.

  • THE TALIBAN HALT THE DEPARTURE OF SEVERAL FEMALE AFGHAN STUDENTS WHO WERE SCHEDULED TO STUDY IN DUBAI – Security personnel intervened when the young women arrived at the airport in Kabul on Wednesday and halted their travel to Dubai where they had received generous scholarship offers from a wealthy patron. Currently, it is thought they were denied boarding permission because there was not a male chaperone present (or, not enough chaperones) to escort the women. The benefactor who had financed the scholarships, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, took to Twitter/X to express his displeasure with the disruption and called on officials to allow them to travel as soon as possible. The incident appears to be having a ripple effect and the Emirati companies who have been instrumental in managing the airport operations in Kabul have also attempted to resolve the situation.

At Mahas Forward Operating Base [FOB], the two generals lauded Sector IV troops for helping in neutralizing al-Shabaab bully boys, adding that ATMIS is committed to helping Somalia to stabilize, following years of al-Shabaab menace in different parts of the country.

The Force Commander also reiterated troops' vigilance and readiness at all times to deny al-Shabaab freedom of movement and action through maximization of force protection, vigilance, and enhanced Patrols, according to state media reports.

KDF repulses Al-Shabaab attack in Kenya, 2 toes up

attack in Lamu on Tuesday morning, reports indicate, in the latest incident which shows coordination between security teams and locals within the Republic of Kenya.

For the last three months, the al-Shabaab bandidos bully boyz have increased attacks within Kenya, leading to the mobilization of security forces in response to infiltration, particularly along the mostly non-existent border, which remains closed at the official entry points.

According to multiple sources, al-Shabāab al-Mujāhideen Terrorists attacked the Maplotini farming village in Witu and burnt crops along with homes before KDF and officers from National Police Reservists [NPR] aptly repulsed a large-scale attack targeting civilians.

In Pandaguo the terror group probed the elite GSU Camp with RPG and assault rifles, witnesses said. Lamu County which shares Boni Forest with Somalia has been a major battlefield between al-Shabaab and multi-agency security teams that have been conducting operations in the country.

The government of Kenya activated Operation Amani Boni in the spirit of flushing al-Shabaab bandidos bully boyz along the Kenya-Somalia border. The operation is partly boosted by the closure of the Kiunga-Ras Kamboni border point, which is deemed as insecure by security teams from both countries.

Repulsing of al-Shabaab hard boyz on Tuesday is a projection of continued effective preemption of attacks in Lamu is an indicator of better intelligence collection, consumption, and exploitation by National Government Administration Officers [NGAO] and National Police Service [NPS], experts say.

During a recent interview, Defence Minister Aden Duale urged locals in Lamu to move closure to security teams, admitting that the dense forest has partly made it difficult for the security teams to dismantle al-Shabaab bully boys, who have been penetrating further to the East Africa nation.
Two people were killed Tuesday following an ambush by suspected Al-Shabaab

murderous Moslems near Lango La Simba area on the Lamu-Witu-Garsen Road in Kenya.

Lamu West Deputy County Commissioner Gabriel Kioni said the vehicle was waylaid by the heavily armed murderous Moslems between 6.30am and 7am.

After stopping them, the attackers slit their throats killing them on the spot.

They then moved about 60 kilometres to Pandanguo where they attempted to force their way into the Pandanguo General Service Unit (GSU) camp but were repulsed by officers.

"I can confirm that two people, a driver and the co-driver of a lorry, have been killed at Lango La Simba this morning...Their bodies have been taken to the Mpeketoni Sub-County Hospital. Investigations are on," said Mr Kioni.

Local administrators, who talked to journaists on condition of anonymity, said no casualties were reported at Salama village as most of the residents are living in an IDP camp.

Kioni said the Death Eaters had earlier torched eight houses and a church at Salama village in Lamu West at night.

The Death Eaters, believed to be between 30 and 60, raided the villages between 8.30 pm and 11pm on Monday night and stole household items including television sets, solar panels, lamps, maize flour and goats.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab launches simultaneous attacks in Mogadishu

terrorist group carried out two simultaneous attacks in Mogadishu's southern suburbs on Wednesday, officials said, amid an ongoing crackdown against the Death Eaters, who control large swathes of rural settlements in the Horn of Africa nation.

Wednesday morning attack left three soldiers dead and several others injured, following a shootout between security forces and al-Shabaab forces of Evil in Kahda district, southern Mogadishu, security officials said, while confirming the deadly attack.

Police reports indicate that the battle between the two parties ensued at midnight, around 1:40 a.m. on Wednesday after the al-Shabaab targeted four areas within Kahda District in the Banadir region. Areas targeted are the cop shoppe, the local administrative headquarters, and two security outposts, eyewitnesses said.

According to officials, the heaviest attack targeted the cop shoppe where the forces of Evil detonated a boom-mobile. Police personnel fought back and repelled the Death Eaters. The forces of Evil then fired several bazookas at the station as they retreated, the Voice of America reports.

Kahda lies at the southern edge of Mogadishu, neighbouring Lower Shabelle region areas such as Gandarshe, Elasha, and Arbacow where the forces of Evil can sneak in to carry out attacks. The area is prone to deadly al-Shabaab attacks within the capital, Mogadishu.

Darfur group denies alliance with Sudanese paramilitary forces
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Gathering of Sudan Liberation Forces (GSLF), under the leadership of Tahir Hajer, a member of the Sovereign Council, has categorically rejected assertions of its involvement in the recent armoured corps festivities alongside the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Reports circulating on various social media platforms have alleged that the GSLF’s armed units took part in assaults targeting the RSF’s armoured units.

In an exclusive conversation with Sudan Tribune, GSLF’s spokesperson, Fathi Osman, singled out specific entities and individuals with apparent political motives for disseminating unfounded claims aimed at sullying the movement’s reputation.

Osman firmly affirmed that the GSLF does not maintain a military presence in Khartoum, the capital city. He fervently discredited all allegations insinuating the participation of their fighters in what he described as a groundless conflict, emphasizing the complete absence of any credible evidence to support such assertions.

"We explicitly declare to all those who may attempt to link us with fabrications that there exists an unmistakable divide between us and dishonesty," he stated resolutely.

He highlighted the movement’s steadfast commitment to maintaining neutrality amid the ongoing hostilities. He strongly appealed to the warring factions to promptly halt their confrontations and instead seek solutions to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese population.

In the aftermath of the outbreak of hostilities between the national army and the paramilitary RSF in mid-April, the GSLF, which is a signatory of the Juba Peace Agreement, has chosen to refrain from involvement in the current conflict between Sudan’s military components.

Niger Coup: Suspected terrorists shoot Ghanaian driver at Burkina Faso border, burn several trucks
[AFRICANEWS] In a courageous effort to transport food supplies from Niger amidst the challenging security situation in the region, a Ghanaian driver was tragically shot by suspected terrorists.

The assailants, believed to be terrorists, not only attacked the convoy but also set fire to multiple trucks.

The injured driver is currently undergoing treatment at a health facility in Niger. He was part of a group of drivers who opted for the Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president is currently Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and will leave office feet first, one way or the other...
route to deliver essential food items to Ghana. The decision was prompted by the closure of Niger's borders due to the military coup, leading to tensions with the ECOWAS regional bloc.

According to reports from Joy News, the drivers attempted to proceed past the Burkina Faso border independently after waiting in vain for security escorts. Regrettably, before they could secure safe passage, gunnies launched a violent mostly peaceful attack on the convoy, resulting in the destruction of approximately four trucks.

Massahoudu Dambala, the proprietor of Damabala Enterprise, which employs around 35 trucks for transporting food from Niger to Ghana, recounted the harrowing incident to Joy News. He revealed that the drivers disregarded the terrorists' commands to stop, leading to a confrontation that turned violent mostly peaceful.

"They were waiting for escorts, but when those didn't arrive, one of the vehicles decided to move ahead. After their success, our drivers also attempted the journey. As they set out, the jihadists emerged. Despite their attempts to halt the convoy, the drivers pressed on. Tragically, some turned back, while others abandoned their trucks," Dambala recounted.

He further added, "Our leading vehicle was targeted; they burned it along with about 450 bags of beans it was carrying, along with three or four other trucks."

The instability resulting from the recent military overthrow of President Mohammed Bazoum has plunged Niger into a period of uncertainty. This political upheaval has severely disrupted both the movement of goods and people to and from the nation.

in what appears to involve a human trafficking network, Ahmed al-Sahhaf, a spokesperson to the Iraqi foreign ministry, said on Wednesday.

The incident has triggered heightened diplomatic and security negotiations between Baghdad and Tehran over the past week.

Speaking to Shafaq News Agency, al-Sahhaf said, "the Iraqi foreign ministry has been meticulously monitoring the situation with profound concern for over a week. We've been privy to crucial information and consequently directed our embassy in Tehran to liaise with the pertinent Iranian authorities."

Over the past few days, footage showing the kidnapped Iraqis shackled in chains has brought the social media into storm.

"The high-level security discussions have been conducted between the specialized agencies in both capitals," he said.

"Unfortunately, those Iraqi nationals were involved with a human smuggling network. They were lured, kidnapped, and are now being held hostage for ransom," al-Sahhaf added.

"Our collaboration with the Iranian side is top level. We have recently received promising intelligence. We expect to make an announcement within the upcoming hours. We have ascertained the location and the exact number of the abductees. The network behind this act is known to traffic humans, and these Iraqis, unfortunately, tried to enter Iran illegally, only to be ensnared by this group."

"The Iraqi Foreign Ministry has alerted about the perils of dealing with human trafficking networks. It poses a huge threat to the lives of our traveling citizens."

Hand grenade explodes near UNRWA school in Ain el-Helweh
Just a normal day in Ein al Hellhole.
[NAHARNET] An explosion was heard at dawn inside the Paleostinian refugee camp of Ain el-Helweh in the southern city of Sidon, the state-run National News Agency said.

The explosion resulted from "a hand grenade that was hurled near a school belonging to the UNRWA agency in the camp’s al-Fawqani street," NNA said, adding that the incident caused no casualties.

UNRWA had reported Saturday that another school compound was taken over by gangs in the camp.

"This brings the total number of schools taken over by gangs in the camp to eight, risking the start of the school year in time for 5,900 children," UNRWA warned.

"We are getting credible reports of severe damage to the school buildings and looting of children’s education material and equipment from the schools," it said.

"UNRWA reiterates its urgent call on all gangs to immediately vacate its premises in the Ain el-Helweh camp including schools and other service offices. Their presence is a grave violation of the neutrality and safety of U.N. installations and is a serious threat to the education for thousands of Paleostine refugee children living in the camp," UNRWA added.

The camp has recently witnessed days of deadly armed festivities between the secular Fatah Movement and hardline Islamist groups.
