[ShabelleMedia] The Minister of Information of Somalia, Daud Aweys Jama held a presser in Mogadishu today on the year-long operations against the al-Shabaab
... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
The Minister of Information of Somalia said that the operation caused the al-Shabaab group to lose and lose a lot of land, which was controlled by the group for several decades.

He pointed out that nearly 2,000 al-Shabaab soldiers were killed in the one-year-old operation, including 57 leaders of the group.

"The operations and direct battles that have been going on for a year have killed one thousand and seven hundred gunnies (1,700) and big shots who were important to the Khawarij who were the heirs of Abdullahi Nadir’s group, and the total number of leaders has reached 57 leaders," said Minister of Information Daud Aweys.

Minister Daud Aweys also said that the operations destroyed 73 bases owned by the group, a large number of weapons and military equipment.

The minister also said that 120 areas, including major cities, have been cleared from al-Shabaab, which are located in all the regions of the country.

"More than a thousand kilometers of land has been eradicated from the Khawarij within a year, and in addition, 120 areas and districts have been removed from al-Shabaab, and the pursuit of the group is still ongoing," said Minister Daud Aweys Jama.

The minister noted that the government’s three-pronged war against al-Shabaab, direct, financial and social media, has all been defeated.

Somali army dislodges Al-Shabaab from town amid ground offensive

bully boyz in the El Boon settlement, which is approximately 40 km to the northwest of Wajid town, and both sides suffered losses.

The commander of the 60th division of the Somali National Army, Onkod Moalim Adan confirmed that the area was taken over from the Shabaab during the military offensive.

He said that the operation led to the discovery of weapons and vehicles that were being used by the al-Shabaab to conduct attacks against army bases in Bakool province.

The operation comes as the defense minister Abdulkadir Mohammed Nur was in the region, visiting troops on the frontlines to boost their morale in the current war on al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabaab suicide bomb leaves six soldiers dead
[Garowe] At least six security officers were killed on Saturday near Somalia capital Mogadishu, authorities confirmed, following a suicide kaboom will also injured seven others, in the latest incident targeting soldiers who have been pursuing al-Shabaab

across the country.

According to eyewitnesses, the jacket wallah drove a car with explosives before detonating it at a camp manned by Somali military police, who have been instrumental in securing peace in the capital. The incident took place at Elasha Biyaha, at least 20 kilometers from the capital.

One of the security officers who spoke to VOA in confidence said soldiers fired on the incoming car but said the windows were shielded with metal to deflect bullets, allowing it to hit the perimeter. The incident was confirmed by Mohammed Ibrahim Barre, the governor of the Lower Shabelle region, where Elasha Biyaha is located.

Barre said the bomber targeted soldiers who were assigned to intercept al-Shabaab boom-mobiles. Recently, the government deployed several soldiers trained in Eritrea

and Uganda within the capital Mogadishu, where they have been working tirelessly to restore peace.

Several other soldiers are currently in central Somalia where they are fighting al-Shabaab particularly in Galmadug and HirShabelle states. Once they are through, the Somali National Army has also planned another operation within Jubaland and Southwest states.

Earlier this week, a kaboom from al-Shabaab suicide bomber at a Mogadishu restaurant killed a prominent Somali television journalist, Abdifatah Moalim Nur Qeys. The attack was strongly condemned by the Somali government and media rights groups.

The following day, the United States announced a $5 million bounty for information on the location of al-Shabaab deputy leader Abukar Ali Adan. The group is also facing internal differences between Ahmed Diriye alias Abu Ubaida and group's finance controller Mahad Karate.

"Adan spent several years as al-Shabaab’s military chief after previously heading the Jabhat, al-Shabaab’s armed wing," a statement by the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice program said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Yellow Wolf clutched at his chest and fell from his horse...
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday returned to his temporary base in the central town of Dhusamareb, where he has been overseeing military and local community operations against al-Shabaab.

A recent statement by the government of Somalia indicated that over 5,000 al-Shabaab bully boyz have been killed in the last 12 months but the information could not be independently verified by Garowe Online. al-Shabaab is fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia.
In a statement, police said the dead included 4 soldiers and 2 civilians while 9 others were wounded – five soldiers and four civilians.

The car bomb was heading to Mogadishu but police said the soldiers at the Elasha Biyaha checkpoint fired on it and exploded in the area.

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Document checks and door-to-door visits are being carried out in the Yubileiny microdistrict of Khasavyurt, including those who were previously amnestied in the case of aiding militants, said a representative of the press service of the FSB department for Dagestan.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, the counter-terrorist operation regime was declared in the Khasavyurt and Kizilyurt regions of Dagestan, including Khasavyurt and Kizilyurt, on March 20, 2018.

On April 29, 2021, Interfax, with reference to the operational headquarters of the NAC for the republic, reported that the counter-terrorist operation regime had been extended to the forest areas of  the Kazbekovsky and Novolaksky districts of Dagestan and lifted in Kizilyurt and Kizilyurt district.

Door-to-door visits and document checks of those previously amnestied in the case of aiding militants are carried out by employees of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Interfax reported today with reference to the press service of the Russian FSB department for the republic.

“As part of the counter-terrorist operation regime operating in the city of Khasavyurt and the Khasavyurt region, preventive measures are being carried out in the Yubileiny microdistrict, including door-to-door visits, checking documents, including those previously amnestied in the case of aiding members of illegal armed groups,” the agency said words from a representative of the department's press service.

An employee of the republican department of the FSB also added that the situation in the area is under the control of law enforcement agencies and “there is no reason for concern.”

More information about the restrictions the introduction of which is envisaged by the counter-terrorist operation regime can be found in the document “Counter-terrorist operation regime (CTO)” prepared by the Caucasian Knot.

Peshmerga, Iraqi army clash near Makhmour camp
[Rudaw] Peshmerga forces and Iraqi army soldiers clashed near Erbil province’s Makhmour refugee camp on Sunday afternoon, resulting in casualties on both sides. There is now a ceasefire in place, according to the Peshmerga.

Ghazi Faisal, head of a unit of Peshmerga volunteers in Makhmour district, told Rudaw that the clash was over "three military posts east of the camp that have been previously evacuated and the Iraqi army wants to control."

Makhmour camp houses Kurdish refugees from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
. It is located in an area disputed between Baghdad and Erbil and therefore characterized by a security vacuum. It has been hit many times by Ottoman Turkish forces claiming to target the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). On Thursday, the PKK announced that it had withdrawn all its fighters from the camp and Iraqi troops were subsequently stationed in the areas they had evacuated.

The Iraqi army has demanded control of the three posts in return for providing security for the camp. The posts, however, are located within the jurisdiction of the Peshmerga forces per a security agreement between the Peshmerga and the Iraqi army’s Nineveh Joint Operations command, according to Faisal.

At least 12 Peshmerga were taken to hospital in Erbil for treatment of injuries sustained in the clash, according to Rudaw’s news hound on the ground. One Peshmerga has reportedly died.

There is no immediate confirmation of casualties among the Iraqi forces.

"A ceasefire between the two sides has been declared," Faisal said.

Ankara believes the PKK uses Makhmour camp as a training ground, with President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
in 2021 calling it an "incubation center for terrorism."

The Iraqi army unsuccessfully attempted to take over the camp in May.

PKK announces withdrawal from Makhmour refugee camp in Erbil province

[Rudaw] The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Thursday declared that it had withdrawn all its fighters from the Makhmour refugee camp in Erbil province. Turkey frequently bombards the camp on the pretext of targeting PKK members.

Makhmour Camp hosts over 12,000 Kurdish refugees from southeast Turkey (Bakur). The majority of the residents came from villages depopulated during Turkey’s conflict with the PKK decades ago. The Kurdish group has been in control of the camp for a long time.

The PKK said in a statement reported by its media on Thursday that it had withdrawn all its fighters from the camp, adding that they had been deployed to the area in 2014 to protect it from the Islamic State (ISIS) which had taken control over swathes of Syrian and Iraqi land.

“Our patriotic people and the public should know that our forces have fulfilled their mission and there is no longer any need for them to continue their mission there,” read the statement, clarifying that no one had demanded their withdrawal and they left the camp “solely on the basis of an independent decision by our movement.”

The Kurdish group noted that they had already withdrawn their forces from Kirkuk and Shingal in northern Iraq as well as Kobane in northern Syria in 2018. “This withdrawal happened publicly in some areas and secretly in others due to security issues. We completed this process by withdrawing our units from Makhmour in a secure manner.”

The camp is located in an area disputed between Baghdad and Erbil and therefore characterized by a security vacuum. It has several times been hit by Turkish airstrikes targeting alleged PKK members. In some of these instances civilians were killed. Ankara believes the PKK uses Makhmour Camp as a training ground, with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan calling it an “incubation centre for terrorism” in 2021.

The PKK is an armed group struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey but is proscribed as a terrorist organization by Ankara. It has bases in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Turkey considers Kurdish-led forces in northeast Syria to be offshoots of the group.

Murat Karayilan, a senior PKK commander, said in a video message on Thursday that they have handed over the camp to its young residents.

PKK-linked media reported that the Iraqi troops have been stationed in areas evacuated by the group.

Israeli army releases footage of first operational use of 'Iron Sting' munition destroying rocket launcher
[FOXNEWS] Israeli forces released footage of the "Iron Sting" system launching a mortar bomb to take out a rocket launcher in its first-ever use in an operation on Sunday.

The Iron Sting, described as "an innovative and accurate mortar bomb," is one of a variety of weapons being used to thwart dozens of terrorists, the Israeli Air Force posted on X, along with video it said showed the 120mm mortar decimating an enemy rocket launcher. The Israeli army used the weapons system in conjunction with the Israeli Air Force.

The weapons system uses a "precise, laser and GPS guided mortar munition" to engage targets in dense, urban environments while "reducing the possibility of collateral damage and preventing injury to non-combatants," Elbit Systems, which developed the system, said in a 2021 news release.

"Its operational use will revolutionize ground warfare and equip battalions with organic, accurate and effective firepower," the release said.

The statement said that these were the same Lions of Islam who were responsible "for several terror attacks over the last months."

#5  Journalists, bless their black little hearts! Most of the reports in the respectable *snort* media seem to agree that the al-Ansar mosque is located in Jenin in the West Bank.

Seems like a good time to mention the Gell-Mann Amnesia Effect

Hey, maybe this is all a misunderstanding. We know the Middle East is unstable, both politically and geologically. Maybe a sinkhole opened up under the mosque. In the West, we'd fill the hole with dirt and concrete rubble. Maybe the Hamasses decided to fill it with old, obsolete weapons they were totally not going to attack Israel with. The Israelis mistook this big pile of weapons for a big pile of weapons and blew it up. Woopsie!

Also assuming Hamas is not significantly exaggerating for effect. After all, the claim of 2.3 million population in Gaza is — possibly as much as double reality.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran-backed groups claim fresh attacks on US bases in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Iran-backed militias in Iraq on Monday said they attacked two US bases in eastern Syria, their fourth attack in one day.

The Islamic Resistance® in Iraq, an umbrella group of Iranian-backed militias, said two drones attacked US military bases by the al-Omar oil field in Deir el-Zour province and in al-Shaddadi further north. Officials in Washington did not immediately comment on the attack.

The attack came hours after the group grabbed credit for drone attacks on the al-Tanf garrison near the Jordanian and Iraqi borders, and a stone’s throw away from the desert Rukban camp home to tens of thousands of Syrians.

There have been a string of similar attacks on US bases in Iraq and Syria over the past week. In one attack, the same group attacked two US bases in Iraq with drones, causing minor injuries among US forces.

US says it ‘destroyed’ 2 drones in southwest Syria

[Rudaw] The US army on Monday said it had downed two suicide drones near its troops in southwest Syria. The incident comes amid renewed drone attacks against American forces in Syria and Iraq by pro-Iran Death Eaters.

"On the morning of Oct. 23, 2023, the U.S. military destroyed two one-way attack drones near U.S. and Coalition forces in southwest Syria before they reached their intended targets. There are no casualties or damage," said the US Central Command in a post on X, previously Twitter.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

"In this moment of heightened alert, we are vigilantly monitoring the situation in the region and will take necessary and proportionate action to defend U.S. and Coalition forces," added the CENTCOM in the post.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based war monitor, reported on Monday that the US had downed three drones in central Syria.

Syrian state media said later on Monday that the "Iraqi resistance" targeted two US bases in Syria with two drones, which "resulted in direct injuries."

It is not clear if this attack is linked to the one reported by the CENTCOM late Monday.
Three drones belonging to Iran-backed militias were shot down Monday by US forces as they attempted to strike a coalition base in central Syria, a war monitor reported as anti-US attacks surge in Syria and Iraq over Washington’s support for Israel.

“American forces were able to shoot down three drones belonging to Iranian militias” as they tried to strike Al-Tanf Garrison in Syria’s Homs province, which houses US troops, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based war monitor.

Israel warbirds hit Bad Guys in Lebanon
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Israel Defense Forces struck a “terrorist cell” that was trying to fire rockets from Lebanon towards Israel. The military wrote about this in their Telegram channel.

“An IDF aircraft struck a terrorist cell discovered in the Har Dov area that was attempting to fire rockets from Lebanon towards Israeli territory,” the Israeli military said.

As Regnum reported , Israel attacked two Hezbollah cells on the border with Lebanon on October 22.

The cells planning to launch anti-tank missiles into Israel were located in the areas of Mattat and Har Dowa.

US authorities are exploring the possibility of a military response if the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah joins the radical Palestinian movement Hamas and opens a “second front” against Israel.

On October 21 , Lloyd Austin announced that the US Armed Forces would deploy a battery of the THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) missile defense system in the Middle East . In addition, they plan to send additional divisions of Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems to the region.

Drones hit an American base near an oil field in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Drones attacked an American military base in eastern Syria near the Al-Omar oil field. After the attack, several explosions occurred on the base, Al Mayadeen TV channel reported.

In addition, according to the TV channel, unmanned aerial vehicles attacked the US base in Al-Shaddadi in the south of Hasakah province.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq movement claimed responsibility for the attacks; it includes fighters from Shiite armed groups who fought against terrorists from the Islamic State group (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).

The TV channel cited a statement from the organization, according to which Shiite fighters had previously attacked the US and Western coalition base in the city of Al-Tanf and the nearby Al-Rukban refugee camp, where the Syrian armed opposition is stationed.

No other details have been reported.

As Regnum reported , on October 23 the United States accused Iran of attacks on American targets in the Middle East. According to White House Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby , missile and drone attacks on US facilities in Iraq and Syria have increased recently.

On October 19, three drones attacked the American military base at Tanf in the Syrian province of Homs. This was reported by members of the Islamic Resistance of Iraq. The Al Jazeera television channel reported that only one drone reached its target, while the other two destroyed the air defense forces of the US-led coalition. The drones also struck the Conoco gas field in the Syrian province of Deir ez-Zor. Five explosions occurred near the border with Iraq, journalists added.
