[AFRICANEWS] An ADF militia commander arrested on Tuesday for the murder of two foreign tourists in Uganda has also been charged with a school massacre in June, a Ugandan general said on Friday.
On Thursday, the army announced the capture of Abdul Rashid Kyoto, also known as Njovu, and the death of six other members of the commando group accused of murdering a British and a South African honeymooner and their guide in Queen Elizabeth Park on October 17.
The ADF rebels, affiliated to the jihadist group Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. "There is a correlation between the three attacks and Njovu's command", General Dick Olum, in charge of an anti-ADF operation in the DRC, told AFP: "It was the same Njovu, alias Abdul Rashid Kyoto, who commanded these attacks and the attack on the two tourists and their guide".
"We have a lot of information on the ADF. We know who led these missions to kill people", he added.
His capture "should reassure Ugandans and tourists that with the operations underway, Uganda is safe and the ADF will be defeated", he concluded.
The murder of the two tourists in one of Uganda's most famous parks raised fears in the tourism sector, which contributed almost 10% of the country's GDP last year, according to official figures.
Originally Ugandan rebels with a Moslem majority, the ADF spread to eastern DRC in the 1990s. They pledged allegiance in 2019 to the EI, which claims responsibility for some of their actions and presents them as its "Central African Province" (Iscap in English).
They are accused of having massacred thousands of civilians in the DRC in recent years and of carrying out jihadist attacks on Ugandan soil.
On Thursday, a Ugandan court sentenced seven people to between seven and ten years' imprisonment, notably for their links with the ADF.
The convicts, including a 75-year-old man, had pleaded guilty to belonging to a "terrorist organization", as well as to financing terrorism and trafficking children for recruitment into the ADF.
One of them also pleaded guilty to recruiting his children into the ADF and rape.

[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Five members of a Rochdalegrooming gang, who repeatedly attacked two young girls 'like pieces of meat' in lair dubbed 'The Butcher's flat' two decades ago, have been jailed for more than 70 years.
The victims, known only as girl A and girl B, were aged 13 and 14 when they were plied with alcohol, cannabis and Ecstasy pills before being sexually assaulted for around two years by various men, either together or on their own.
Girl A also suffered 'degradation' as she was filmed while blacked out from vodka, being sexually assaulted with a bottle as men laughed. The video was then shared around Rochdale, the court heard. On another occasion, she told Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, she was urinated on by one man as she performed oral sex on another.
The five men - Mohammed Ghani, Jahn Shahid Ghani, Insar Hussain, Ali Razza Hussain Kasmi, and Martin Rhodes - were convicted of sexual offences after a 12-week trial earlier this year.
Passing sentence, Judge Tina Landale told the defendants: 'Your cases, together and individually resulted in appalling abuse of two young women who were children when you offended against them.
'They were both, immature, naive children, who were loved by their families.
'Each girl was a child, ripe for exploitation by unscrupulous older men.
'Your behaviour was highly predatory, controlling and manipulative.
'You each hooked them and used them for your own sexual pleasure.'
The trial heard the victims would often be picked up from outside their schools, still in their uniforms, and sexually assaulted against a school wall, in cars, in public parks, on Saddleworth Moor and in flats and houses in Rochdale. One flat was known as the 'Butcher's flat', as it was above an old butcher's shop. The only item it had in an upstairs bedroom was a bare stained mattress used for the abuse.
Girl A said the abuse began after a chance meeting with Mohammed Ghani, now aged 39, of Bamford Way, Rochdale. He would have sex with the youngster then pass her on to his friends where she was also pressured into multiple sexual encounters with men, one after the other. Girl A described becoming 'accustomed' to giving the men what they wanted sexually, that condoms were rarely used, that they would 'bombard' her with calls and treat her like a 'piece of meat'.
Ghani was jailed for 14 years and six months after being found guilty of five counts of penetrative sex with a child.
His older brother, Jahn Shahid Ghani, 50, of Whitworth Road, Rochdale, described as a 'sex addict' who gave girl A up to 10 Ecstasy tablets at a time before engaging in group sex with her and another woman, was jailed for 20 years for causing a child to engage in sexual activity and four counts of penetrative sexual activity with a child.
Their friend, Insar Hussain, 38, of Bishop Street, Rochdale was jailed for 17 years for rape and two counts of penetrative sex with Girl A.
Ali Razza Hussain Kasmi, 36, of Brotherod Hall Road, Rochdale, was jailed for eight years for rape and two other sexual offences against girl B.
A fifth man, Martin Rhodes, 39, of Dinmore Avenue, Blackpool, pleaded guilty to four counts of penetrative sex with a child, relating to both girl A and girl B and was jailed for 12 years and six months.
All the offences took place between 2002 and 2006.
The allegations only came to light in 2015 after girl A told of being 'beaten and raped' while on a parenting course and police were contacted. She told course workers: 'I was abused daily for six years. I was 12 when they began to abuse me, feeding me alcohol and drugs, abuse me and pass me on to their friends.
'They did as they pleased, they made videos of me to use as blackmail.'
She added that she had to do what they said or she would be 'beaten and raped'.
As a result of what she told the police, they spoke with the second girl, girl B, a childhood friend.
Jurors cleared Ikhlaq Yousef, 38, of Stanley Street, Rochdale, Aftar Khan, 34, of Sparth Bottoms Road, Rochdale, and Mohammed Iqbal, 67, of Gainsborough Drive, Rochdale, of any wrongdoing.

Vernikov surrendered her gun after the arrest. Her next scheduled court date is January 24.
Her attorney, Arthur Aidala, said images appearing to show his client bringing a gun to the protest could have been altered.
"In today’s world of artificial intelligence, you can put anything on social media," Aidala said after the arraignment, news outlets reported. "Rules of evidence are, it’s a human being who has to make these descriptions, not based on what you see on a computer screen."
Aidala said prosecutors also must show that the gun police recovered from Vernikov’s home after they arrested her was operable.
"I’m assuming in January they’ll have a ballistics report telling us whether it’s worked and then they’ll have a witness who actually saw her with a gun," he said.

"An intelligence based operation was conducted in general area Rori, Dera Ismail Khan District and one terrorist was sent to hell, while two hard boyz were maimed," a statement issued by the ISPR read.
It stated that the killed terrorist was identified as Osama — a suicide bomber linked with the TTP — who was planning to carry out a "high profile" attack in the area.
In a separate IBO conducted in Lakki Marwat district, the security forces busted various terrorist hideouts, killing one terrorist.
Unfortunately, two soldiers — Naik Zafar Iqbal, 37, from Gujranwala and Sepoy Haji Jan, 30 from Gilgit Baltistan — bit the dust while fighting gallantly in an intense exchange of fire.
Moreover, another soldier, Havildar Shahid Iqbal, 39, from Mirpurkhas, embraced martyrdom in an IED blast in the Kulachi area of DI Khan.
The military's media wing said that sanitisation operations are being carried out to eliminate any Death Eaters present in the area. It reiterated the determination of security forces to wipe out the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.

[GEO.TV] At least 14 soldiers were martyred when holy warriors attacked two vehicles carrying security forces in Gwadar, the military's media wing said Friday.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), in a statement, said that the unfortunate incident occurred when the security convoy was moving from Pasni to Ormara in Gwadar district.
The military's wing added that a sanitisation operation was being carried out in the area and perpetrators of "this heinous act will be hunted down [and] brought to justice".
The ISPR mentioned that the security forces are determined to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of "our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve".
Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani strongly condemned the terrorist attack.

It was Nasrallah's first public remarks since the beginning of the Israel-Hamas ...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,... war, sparked by the Paleostinian Death Eaters deadly Oct. 7 incursion into southern Israel.
The speech came a day after the most significant escalation in festivities between Hezbollah and Israeli forces on the border since the war started and on the same day as a visit to Israel by the top U.S. diplomat. In his lengthy remarks, Nasrallah praised the Hamas attack four weeks ago in which the Death Eaters attacked farming villages and military posts in southern Israel. More than 1,400 people were killed in Israel in the attack.
"This great, large-scale operation was purely the result of Paleostinian planning and implementation," Nasrallah said, suggesting that Hezbollah had no part in the attack. "The great secrecy made this operation greatly successful."
Nasrallah's speech had been widely anticipated throughout the region as a sign of whether the Israel-Hamas conflict would spiral into a regional war.

The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers... , but not to the extent of igniting an all-out war.
The speed with which the US supported Israel showed how weak the Israeli state was, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrullah said on November 3 .
“The American speed of support for Israel has shown the failure, weakness and infirmity of this entity,” Nasrullah said in a televised address, pointing to the number of trips Western politicians have made to Israel.
Nasrullah said the IDF could not seize the initiative from the Palestinian resistance.
The Hezbollah leader stressed that the United States, while helping Israel, turns a blind eye to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East and the killing of civilians. He called on Muslim countries to sever relations with Israel and stop supplies of energy and food.
The Al-Jarida newspaper reported on November 2 that Hezbollah, amid the growing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, may announce a general mobilization. This will happen if the United States does not stop Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

“The deadline for Hezbollah’s demands to be met is November 3,” the publication said.
Earlier, The New York Times reported that if Israel destroys Hamas, it will have to conduct full-fledged military operations against Hezbollah. According to the authors of the material, Lebanese Hezbollah is one of the most powerful nodes in the network of pro-Iranian paramilitary structures in the Middle East.
