AU troops in Somalia foil Al-Shabaab attack on base – spokesman
[ShabelleMedia] An overnight attack by Al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
holy warriors on the ATMIS African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
military base in the Buulo Mareer district in the Lower Shabelle region was successfully repelled, says a front man.

Lt Col Mwachinalo, the spokesperson of the African Union forces in AMISOM, who spoke to HOL, said that they foiled the attack, adding that there were no casualties.

"Last night in Bulomareer area around 21:00 pm, suspected al-Shabaab fighters attacked the base using small arms. The ATMIS forces responded to the attack, said the front man.

In May 2023, al-Shabaab launched an attack on the same ATMIS base, resulting in the loss of 57 Ugandan soldiers, one of the deadliest attacks on AU bases in Somalia since their arrival in 2007.

Uganda dismissed two UPDF officers for cowardice and lack of action during the Bulomareer base attack, where the troops were not encouraged to fight back the al-Shabaab attack.

Uganda has thousands of troops in Somalia. The UPDF forces are operating in the capital, Mogadishu, and the Lower Shabelle region. They also provide protection to the top leaders.

Security forces thwart Al-Shabaab attack in Puntland — or possibly ISIS
[GoobjoogNews] Somali Police Force Monday thwarted an attempted al-shabaab attack at Bosaso City in Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
State.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Puntland State Government, a division of the Somali Police Force, successfully intervened and prevented the plot by the Death Eaters which targeted a construction company.

Security agencies in Somalia are actively investigating the incident and are actively pursuing the perpetrators so as to bring them to justice.

This underscores the unified efforts of the Somali Police Force, operating at both the State and Central Government levels, in protecting citizens from the threats posed by the terrorist organization al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
Garowe claims — at length — that it was ISIS who attacked. We may never know the truth:
Security forces in Somalia's Puntland state have repulsed a terror attack in Bosaso, the commercial capital of the northeastern state of Somalia, in the latest attempt that could have been devastating in the Horn of Africa nation, which is struggling with instability.

According to state media, the murderous Moslems targeted workers at a construction site and would have caused massive damage in the state, which is considered the most stable in the country. Puntland is also facing internal political challenges over impending elections.

The attempt targeted workers of Bulsho Construction Company and a number of civilians who were at the site at the time of the attack. Security officers diffused the bomb before it detonated, authorities confirmed while praising security teams for quick action.

"Somalia's security forces in Puntland state thwarted an ISIS plot in Bosaso. An bomb, intended to target workers of Bulsho construction company and civilians, was defused before detonation. "The hunt for the gunnies is ongoing", according to a security official."

Puntland has been battling ISIS attacks for some time now after the murderous Moslems retreated from several parts of the country following a conflict that much strengthened a l-Shabaab, who are currently facing an onslaught from the Somali National Army [SNA] and partner forces.

Over the weekend, however, a concern was raised over the sustainability of the fight against al-Shabaab and IS-Somalia murderous Moslems after Puntland leader Said Abdullahi Deni allegedly withdrew troops from several frontlines and stationed in Garowe and Bosaso, raising fears among locals.

The troops are believed to be planning to push for Deni's term extension contrary to the constitution of the state. Local politicians have condemned the move, vowing that elections in the state will be held as planned in January 2024. Deni is set to seek reelection in the next two months.

Mali: Minusma hands over 9th base to authorities
[AFRICANEWS] The UN mission in Mali announced on Saturday that it had left its camp 80 kilometres off the city of Gao in the north as part of its complete withdrawal from the jihadism plagued west African country.

This closure is the ninth among the twelve camps they have in the country, according to a statement published on social media.

The camp was handed over to the Malian authorities, represented by the Prefect of Ansongo, by the head of the Minusma office in Gao, the largest city in northern Mali.

The colonels who came to power in 2020 demanded in June, after months of deteriorating relations, the departure of the Minusma deployed since 2013 in this country to help in the fight against jihadism and the deep multidimensional crisis.

The withdrawal of some 11,600 soldiers and 1,500 police officers who were present in Mali is scheduled to take place until December 31 and has exacerbated rivalries for control of the north of the country.

The separatist groups are opposed to Minusma handing over the camps to the Malian authorities, which they say goes against the agreements reached in 2014 and 2015 when they agreed to cease fire.

These predominantly Tuareg groups have resumed hostilities against the central state, and regularly accuse the Malian armed forces and its allies from the Russian paramilitary group Wagner of committing atrocities against the civilian population.

Nevertheless, on Tuesday, the Malian army announced that it had taken Kidal, a town in northern Mali, from Tuareg separatists, after years of absence from this strategic territory that has become a major sovereignty issue for the central state.

The new Mannerheim line will protect Finland from invasion by Somalis and Iraqis
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Victor Lavrinenko

[REGNUM] Finland has closed five border checkpoints on the border with Russia since November 18, including the four most popular ones. Thus, the Russian-Finnish border was almost completely blocked. This caused indignation among Russian-speaking residents of the state. They are dissatisfied with the fact that official Helsinki, having become involved in a geopolitical confrontation with Russia, has trampled over the interests of ordinary people who want to live in peace and maintain communication with their friends and relatives on the other side of the border.

THE NEW "MANNERHEIM LINE"
A few years ago, the Suomi authorities began to accustom their population to the idea that Moscow could take certain hostile actions against its neighbor.

“The government report states that as the security environment changes, Finland is preparing to be exposed to exceptional, large-scale and complex hybrid capabilities in both the short and long term,” the Finnish Ministry of the Interior said a year and a half ago.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs made it clear that Moscow could use refugees from Asian and African countries who use Russia as a transit territory on their way to the EU as its “hybrid weapon”. The ministry warned that applications from refugees for asylum in Finland will now be accepted only at strictly designated border checkpoints.

The Finnish legislator also took care to alienate plots of border land from private owners to create a fence with which Suomi intends to isolate itself from Russia. After the checkpoints were closed, the Finns began to turn them into small fortresses - they began to block highways with concrete blocks and fences.

This new “Mannerheim Line” should protect Finland from hordes of refugees from poor Asian and African countries who are trying to enter the coveted EU through Russia.

The Finnish government does not rule out that at any moment “Putin may follow Lukashenko’s example last year.”

Let us remind you that the leadership of the community places the responsibility for the migration crisis of 2021 on the eastern borders of the EU entirely on the “Belarusian dictator”, who, by his own evil will, gathered refugees from the third world in Belarus and sent them to storm the borders of the European Union. In Helsinki they believe that Moscow has decided to take a similar step.

NOT JUST REFUGEES
Sinikukka Saari director of research at the Helsinki Institute of International Affairs, identifies three “hybrid influence methods” that she believes Russia could use against its neighbors.

The first of these methods is to send migrants across the border. “Now Russia is again trying to put pressure on Finland with the help of migrants, they are being used as a weapon ,” says Saari. She recalls the events of 2015, when migrants arrived in Finland across the EU's external border in larger than usual numbers for several months.

The “expert” also provides another “evidence” - they say, since Russia and Belarus have close allied relations, it means that the Belarusian security forces could not help but share their “experience” with their Russian colleagues. “At a minimum, they exchanged views on this operation,” says Saari.

Also, according to her, Russia is capable of sending a large number of labor migrants from the countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus to Finland.

Finally, the “expert” does not rule out that Russia could also strike at Finnish infrastructure. Saari recalls that it was the “Russian trace” that became the first version of the recent damage to the Blaticconnector underwater gas pipeline.

In addition, according to an employee of the Finnish Institute of International Relations, the insidious Moscow has prepared other vile tricks against Finland.

“Intentional damage to the environment disguised as an accident ,” she gives an example. In practice, this, according to Saari, could become “an oil spill on a Russian tanker in the Baltic Sea.” It may, of course , “remain unclear whether this was a deliberate leak or damage at all ,” but in general the Finns seem ready to be content with the tried and tested “highly like” principle.

However, Sinikukka Saari believes that “Finland should not panic and should not allow Russian pressure to influence its own decisions . ”

BORDER IS LOCKED TIGHT
Last year in Helsinki they said that Moscow was too busy with Ukrainian affairs to plot intrigues against Finland, and then, they say, anything could happen. At the same time, preparations were intensified to combat the “hybrid threat.” As you know, over the past fourteen months, the Suomi authorities have blocked the possibility of entry into their country for most Russian citizens.

From now on, even the fact of owning real estate is not a sufficient reason for entry. Entry is prohibited for cars with Russian license plates, and recently a ban was introduced for entry from the Russian Federation on bicycles. This ban caused confusion, but the Finnish border service explained that bicycles are often used by migrants rushing to Suomi.

Since November 18, the Finns have closed (so far, as they say, only for three months) the four busiest border checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation - “Vaalimaa” (opposite the Russian checkpoint “Torfyanovka”), “Nuyjamaa” (“Brusnichnoe”), “Imatra” (“Svetogorsk”) in the Leningrad region and “Niirala” (“Vyartsilya”) in Karelia. The next day, the Vartius checkpoint was added to them.

According to the Finnish side, from August to November 16, a total of 313 asylum seekers arrived across the eastern border, and in the first half of 2023, 327 people applied at the eastern border. The Finns explain this increase in the number of refugees by saying that Russia allegedly deliberately sends these “guests” to the borders of Suomi.

Although the Finns banned most Russian citizens from entering their country last year, in the last 24 hours before the closure there was pandemonium at four checkpoints. People who still had the opportunity to cross the border were in a hurry to do so for the last time. Some complained loudly about losing the ability to visit parents and friends on the other side of the border.

To justify the step taken, Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen burst into accusations on a cosmic scale. He found “clear signs” that it was Russia that provoked the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean region, as well as on the borders with Poland and the Baltic states. The minister admitted that the closure of the south-eastern Finnish border points had become a big problem for people with dual citizenship, but immediately shifted all responsibility for this situation to Moscow.

“If a neighboring country exploits the vulnerabilities of our legal system, then we are forced to protect what matters most: the safety of Finns ,” he said.

FINNISH SCHADENFREUDE
On November 18, about a hundred Russian-speaking citizens of Finland held a protest rally in front of the parliament building. In order not to give rise to accusations that they are “agents of Moscow,” the protesters said that they strongly “condemn Russia’s practice of using refugees as weapons in international politics” and “support Finland’s desire for security and the protection of its borders.” But at the same time, they asked to preserve their right to travel and to meet relatives.

“I was supposed to be in St. Petersburg today. Yesterday my parents cried into my phone because they are afraid that they will not see us again. Taking care of parents is also very difficult. I can’t send them money and I’m afraid that I won’t be able to come to them anymore,” rally participant Vera Ponomareva said bitterly.

The protesters called for “finding other solutions to combat hybrid influence,” for example, opening the Parikkala checkpoint. It is not international, and previously only citizens of Finland and Russia who had obtained permission in advance could use it.

“I am a citizen of Finland and Russia. It’s depressing that Finland, which was previously close, is becoming so far away that we have to travel through Estonia. And if Estonia closes the border, then you’ll have to fly through Istanbul ,” says another rally participant, Sergei.

A petition has appeared on the Adressit.com portal calling for the opportunity to visit Russia for those who have relatives there; it has already been signed by almost 13 thousand people. “Border traffic between Finland and Russia should be allowed - if there is a family connection. The government’s decision to completely close border traffic between Finland and Russia is contrary to human rights ,” said petition author Petri Mattinen.

It is doubtful, however, that these people will be met halfway. In general, Finnish society has been propagated in such a way that it is not inclined to show sympathy for Russians - even for those with dual citizenship.
Possibly they will stop allowing dual citizenship for Russia, and these unhappy people will have to choose one or the other — which is as it should be.
Recently, Finnish media published the results of a survey indicating that 62% of Suomi residents are inclined to extend the principle of collective responsibility to Russian residents. They believe that all Russian citizens are collectively to blame for the “war in Ukraine.” Therefore, to complaints that the border closures have cut off their relatives, the Finns gloatingly respond in the spirit of “blame it on Putin.”

At the same time, the Finns began to treat migrants arriving at their border more brutally.

So, when on November 17, another group of thirty refugees on bicycles and on foot (among them were women and children) arrived at the Niirala checkpoint, border guards sprayed gas in the face of one of them when he tried to run past them.
The entire point of having borders is to keep unwanted people outside them. Perhaps next time the refugees should ask politely if them might be allowed to cross over instead of just demanding it as their right.
Such treatment of refugees should undoubtedly appeal to voters of the right-wing coalition currently in power in Finland. A coalition whose ministers have already been repeatedly accused of neo-Nazi sympathies.
Yeah, yeah. Everyone Russia dislikes is either a Nazi or a neo-Nazi. Compare and contrast with the Russians, who are merely white supremacists.

Despite winter setting in, no reduction in infiltration attempts along LoC: Army

...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
e] The Indian Army on Thursday said despite winter setting in, there was no reduction in infiltration attempts made by the forces of Evil across the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of Baramulla district.

Col Raghav Commanding Officer 8RR was briefing media persons about operation Kali wherein a major infiltration bid was foiled along LoC on November 15.

The Army officer said that Operation Kaali, a joint effort between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, successfully thwarted an infiltration bid in the Uri sector along the Line of Control (LoC) on November 15.

"This operation led to significant casualties among forces of Evil and the recovery of various warlike supplies," the Army Officer said.

He said that Operation Kaali was initiated based on intelligence from our sources and the Srinagar bureau. Upon receiving intelligence, the Indian Army strengthened its counter-infiltration and surveillance grids in the area.

"Joint operation parties were deployed, and in the early hours of November 15, our surveillance tracked the movement of forces of Evil across the LoC," he said

The Army Officer said that upon infiltrating, the forces of Evil were engaged, leading to a exchange of gunfire.

"Following the exchange, a detailed search of the area revealed numerous terrorist casualties, though the exact number remains unconfirmed due to the proximity to the LoC," he said.

The officer said two bodies were recovered, along with warlike stores, including AK series rifles, two pistols, few Chinese grenades, ammunition, medical supplies, eatables, Pak currency, and identification papers.

"A significant outcome of the operation was the elimination of Bashir Ahmad Malik and his lover companion Ahmad Gani Sheikh," he said.

He said Malik, a prominent figure in cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, served as a launch commander aiding infiltrations for the past three decades.

"He played a key role in facilitating infiltrations across the LoC, resulting in the loss of numerous Indian lives, including those of the armed forces. Malik’s demise deals a severe blow to the terror infrastructure operating across the LoC," he said.

He said the recent incident shows the desperation of forces of Evil to infiltrate to this side despite winter season setting in.

"But Indian Army is well prepared to foil all their attempts," he said.

''The bodies of the slain bandidos bandidos murderous Moslems are being retrieved and the area is being sanitised. Five bodies have been sighted through drones,'' a police brass hat said.

Security forces had launched a cordon-and-search operation in Nehama village of Kulgam following information about the presence of bandidos bandidos murderous Moslems in the area on Thursday, the officials said.

The search operation turned into a gunbattle as the bandidos bandidos murderous Moslems opened fire towards the security personnel, they added.

While the security forces maintained a tight cordon around the area where the ultras are trapped, the operation was suspended overnight, the officials said.

Gunshots were exchanged early Friday after a night-long lull at Samno in Nehama area of Kulgam, officials said.

The house where the bandidos bandidos murderous Moslems were hiding caught fire in the exchange of fire this morning, forcing the Lions of Islam to come out. Further details are awaited.

Israel Arrests NBC Journalist for Inciting Terrorism
Consequences. For some they are ever unexpected.
[PJMedia] An NBC journalist was arrested on Thursday in Israel for allegedly inciting terrorism and expressing affiliation with Hamas
...always the voice of sweet reason...
"Marwat al-Azza, a 45-year-old journalist, employed by the NBC television network and living in east Jerusalem, was arrested after four recent posts on her personal Facebook page regarding the October 7 terror attack by Hamas from the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. Strip, in which at least 1,200 people were murdered and 240 taken hostage," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The police claim that al-Azza 'arrived ready for arrest,' without a mobile phone, and even wrote phone numbers on her leg."

Al-Azza, a Paleostinian freelance journalist, reportedly mocked the kidnapping of an elderly Israeli woman in Gaza.

Israel News has the details of the posts that sparked the arrest.

On October 7, al-Azza put up posts on her personal Facebook account allegedly supporting Hamas terrorism. She wrote on the kidnapping of an elderly woman from a Gaza border community, "It’s killing me, it’s a black comedy, the old woman looks happy, a bit of action before she dies."

In another post, she wrote: "Sirens all the time, the Jews are hiding and the Arabs are out drinking coffee on their balconies." In yet another post, she wrote: "I feel like I’m watching a movie where the director is Paleostinian and the protagonists are from Gaza."

Her attorney defended her by pointing out she cooperated with authorities.

"This is a normative woman, engaged in journalism, and her role is very important to everyone," al-Azza's defense attorney claimed. "She was asked in her investigation about her work. I believe that in the things attributed to her, she cooperated fully. She did not try to hide, saying 'I had a hacker.’ Even when she did not have a phone, which is the main tool, she said, 'Indeed, these are my posts,' and this eliminates a thousand disruptive actions. There is her statement—that is why I believe that the investigation has exhausted itself. I ask that she be released under whatever conditions the court deems appropriate. She is from a very respectable family."

Despite her attorney’s efforts, al-Azza’s was not released.

"These are very serious offenses during a time of declared war when the respondent lives and makes a living in the same country that is under attack and yet chooses to incite and glorify the horrible acts committed against civilians," a representative from the Israel Police said at a hearing in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court.

It’s hardly surprising that NBC would employ someone like that. Many people in the media, be it American media or international media, have sided with Hamas and the Paleostinians over Israel. It’s so bad that last week even leftist comedian Bill Maher blasted the media for being pro-Hamas in its coverage of the Israel-Hamas war.

"It couldn’t be more pro-Hamas than it is now," Maher said. "They’re saying they want the newsrooms to adopt words such as ’apartheid,’ I hear it all the time anyway. It’s wrong, and I hear it. ’Genocide,’ again, wrong, Israel [is] not trying to commit genocide, the other side [is] blatantly saying, we would love to commit genocide on you."

NBC sent a comment to PJ Media: "The investigation of Ms. Azza is unrelated to NBC News. It is based on her personal Facebook posts that predate her time with us as a freelancer. IDF details heavy battles between its 36th Division and Hamas in Gaza City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, mosque containing rocket factory and tunnel entrance

operatives, and located weapons and terror infrastructure in civilian sites.

According to the IDF, the infantry forces, tanks, and combat engineers of the 36th Division are working to defeat Hamas’s Zeitoun battalion, operating in the neighborhood of the same name in Gaza City.

The operations in Zeitoun come after the 36th Division completed the capture of Gaza City’s Shati camp and Sabra neighborhood.

The military believes troops have killed hundreds of terror operatives in Zeitoun so far. There is heavy fighting, as Hamas is operating in cells of between five and 10 button men in the area, according to military assessments.

The IDF believes the fighting in Zeitoun will last at least another 72 hours, and when it ends, the IDF will continue to work to demolish all of the terror group’s infrastructure in the neighborhood.

In a statement, the IDF says the troops, led by the Golani Infantry Brigade, have engaged in several shootouts with Hamas in Zeitoun, including operatives holed up in residential homes, hospitals, schools, and other civilian sites.

The commander of the 36th Division, Brig. Gen. Dado Bar Kalifa says his troops "constantly encountered the enemy hiding behind children and women, and behind sensitive civilian infrastructure."

"The troops have encountered many dozens of Lions of Islam since the beginning of the fighting in the neighborhood, conducting close-quarters fighting with them, and have so far eliminated many of them," the IDF says.

It says troops of the 188th Armored Brigade captured a number of Hamas sites in Zeitoun, including the offices of the head of Hamas’s Gaza City brigade.

"The forces searched the area, located many weapons, and at the end of the searches, they destroyed the office of the brigade commander," the IDF says.

City’s Zeitoun neighborhood, the military says.

"I want you to understand: A mosque, in the Zeitoun area, was being used as a lab for making weapons," IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says in an evening presser.

"Troops enter the mosque, carry out scans, and make sure there are no traps. They head inside this mosque and find a tunnel shaft... and a staircase," he says.

In the basement, Hagari says the troops found "a workshop for making rockets."

"Terrorists manufacturing rockets in a mosque. Using Islam and the symbols of Islam to create terror," he charges.

Zeitoun is a Hamas

stronghold in the south of Gaza City.

Hagari says the IDF will continue to expose Hamas’s use of civilian sites for terror.

#5  Among all those 13,300, pay attention, not one Hamas operative has ever been identified. The entire job-lot of the corpses are all certified civilians. We know they are civies because none of the dead are ever in uniform, see...

So the whole inavsion of Gaza is wasted for nothing.

Wait, what...?

Who doesn't wear uniforms?

Look, Israel is clearly to blame; they started it all by retaliating.

GPS Spoofing
[OpsGroup] GPS Spoofing Update: Map, Scenarios And Guidance
  • Two new types of GPS spoofing being reported, one leading to new critical nav failures

  • Three distinct scenarios (Baghdad, Cairo, and Beirut types) – Spoofing Map published

  • ALL CALL summary available in your Dashboard

It’s been 5 weeks since the real-world discovery of a fundamental flaw in avionics design: If a GPS position signal is faked, most aircraft are incapable of detecting the ruse. For many, it has lead to total navigation failure. For others, it has led to subtle and undetected erroneous tracking.

In the worst cases, the impact has been severe: complete loss of on-board nav requiring ATC vectors, IRS failure, and unnoticed off-track navigation towards danger areas and hostile airspace. The industry has been slow to come to terms with the issue, leaving flight crews alone to find ways of detecting and mitigating GPS spoofing.

Two entirely new types of GPS spoofing have been reported in other areas since the first GPS Spoofing report we published on 26 September. These include critical nav failures on departure from Tel Aviv leading aircraft towards Lebanon, and spoofed signals received by multiple aircraft in the Cairo FIR showing a stationary position over LLBG. We have now identified three distinct spoofing scenarios, shown on the map below and detailed in this briefing.

On Friday last, we asked OPSGROUP members for a group ALL CALL to gather the latest intel that we have in the community. This article will summarize at high level what we know. Full details are in your members dashboard (Special Briefings section).

Note: This summary article is being continuously updated as we get more information. If you have anything to add or comment on, please email the team.

A less technical take on the situation:
Commercial Flights Are Experiencing 'Unthinkable' GPS Attacks and Nobody Knows What to Do

[Vice] New "spoofing" attacks resulting in total navigation failure have been occurring above the Middle East for months, which is "highly significant" for airline safety.

#1  Nobody knows what to do? Seriously? Old school answers abound, you just have to abandon the addiction to vulnerable communications and computers.
Posted by: NoMoreBS || 11/21/2023 12:22 Comments || Top||

#2  So, evidently when the GPS system is spoofed, it also corrupts the Inertial Nav System, which is only there in case the GPS fails.
Engineers in action.

#3  After the plane overran the runway in Hawaii this crossed my mind. Then Instapundit posted a link.
Posted by: BrerRabbit || 11/21/2023 13:44 Comments || Top||

#4  The military has been aware of this problem for some time now. Russian and Iranian hackers have developed some sophisticated spoofing technology.

Several manufacturers are developing INS systems that can sense spoofing attempts, but the technology will go to the military first.
