How a single sniper rifle uncovered America's gun pipeline to the cartels: Weapon seized deep in Mexican gangland led US investigators to Wisconsin town where $600,000-a-year arms smuggling business was booming
Much more, plus the usual photos and maps, at the link.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news]
  • 'Gun 31' - a .50 caliber sniper seized in a police raid in the Mexican city of Guadalajara in 2018 - was 'the key' to the cartel's US pipeline

  • The gun led investigators to a gun store in the small Wisconsin city, Racine, where a local family - working with a cousin in Mexico - were supplying the Jalisco Nueva Generacion cartel

  • The Racine case unlocked 'the most prolific Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) firearms trafficking network ever discovered' - with cells across the US

in 2018, Racine's suburban sprawl on the edge of Lake Michigan became a source of high caliber weapons for one of Mexico's top fentanyl trafficking gangs, the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG).

The cartel exploited permissive federal and state-level gun control rules to buy some of the most powerful weapons available to American civilians, according to two former agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and two other sources, all with knowledge of the investigation.

Members of a local family, working with a cousin in Mexico, enlisted friends and relatives who bought guns on their behalf in Racine and transported them to California and south across the border, according to an indictment from Wisconsin's Eastern District Court unsealed in February.

Their clients included a hit squad reporting to CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera, better known as 'El Mencho,' according to Chris Demlein, one of the former ATF agents.

The Racine case unlocked 'the most prolific CJNG firearms trafficking network ever discovered,' said Demlein, who until 2021 served as a senior special agent with ATF and oversaw a multi-agency arms trafficking project that coordinated dozens of investigations.

The traffickers in Racine and connected cells in two other locations bought more than $600,000 of high-end military-style firearms in under a year, internal ATF documents allege. It seemed like an unprecedented shopping spree, said Tim Sloan, the other former ATF investigator. Sloan was the first to trace a CJNG gun to Racine.

Racine was just the tip of the iceberg. The city was a key part of a CJNG firearms network that bought hundreds of guns from more than a dozen U.S. states, specializing in semi-automatic .50 caliber rifles and FN SCAR assault rifles designed for U.S. special forces, internal ATF reports obtained by Reuters allege.

ATF dubbed the Wisconsin case 'Grin and Barrett,' after Barrett, a Tennessee-based weapons maker whose powerful .50 caliber firearms were among those trafficked by the network. Now a unit of Australia's NIOA Group, Barrett did not respond to detailed requests for comment for this report.

ATF spokesperson Kristina Mastropasqua declined to comment on what she described as an open case. Mastropasqua said preventing cross-border firearms trafficking was an ATF priority and new powers had led to 250 people being charged since last year.

Overseeing much of the network was Mexican citizen Jesus Cisneros, according to ATF internal presentations that cited his intercepted communications with other suspects about moving .50 calibers and other firearms to Mexico. The Wisconsin indictment charged Cisneros and a local accomplice named Victor Cobian on multiple counts related to gun trafficking.

One internal ATF presentation cited more than 28 pending indictments related to the wider network.

Cisneros is believed to reside in Mexico, one of the sources with knowledge of the investigation said. The source requested anonymity to speak freely.

Cobian told Reuters in an interview that Cisneros was his cousin and lived in Jalisco. Cobian, who pleaded not guilty to gun-trafficking charges, denied involvement in or knowledge of the alleged trafficking scheme.

Sudanese airstrikes in Nyala target RSF sites, causing civilian casualties
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudanese army warplanes launched a series of airstrikes on Thursday, targeting several military locations of the paramilitary forces in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state.

The airstrikes, which are the first after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) gained control of the city, reportedly resulted in civilian casualties and property damage.

The RSF took over the command of the 16th Infantry Division of the Sudanese army on October 26, effectively consolidating their control over South Darfur.

This development followed fierce fighting that forced a significant portion of Nyala’s residents to flee. Despite a lull in military operations over the past month, many neighbourhoods in central Nyala remain devoid of residents.

A statement issued by the RSF’s spokesperson accused the Sudanese army of carrying out a “brutal massacre” by bombing Nyala, causing the deaths and injuries of dozens of civilians and the destruction of their homes. The statement further alleged that the Sudanese army deliberately targeted civilians in an attempt to displace them.

Military sources, also speaking to Sudan Tribune, claimed that the airstrike was aimed at gathering sites of RSF fighters who were preparing to be deployed to military operations in Khartoum and North Darfur state. They estimated the number of these fighters to be around 6,000.

#1  No one has bothered to report on who is financing this war. If history is used, the Sudanese army composed of Nile River Arabs is likely being financed by its traditional allies, China and Iran. The RSF must be receiving support from the Gulf states through Libya and Chad, the traditional sources of arms for western Sudan. As long as the suppliers hold on this war will last for quite some time.
Update: The RSF is bombing Nyala and South Darfur because Arab Misseriya and Rizayqat have fled the province. The RSF must now be poised to attack North Darfur, and if it can take El Fasher the Sudan Military will have lost control of western Sudan and the country will be divided once again.

Sudan: fighting spreads to Wad Madani, spared from violence until now
[AFRICANEWS] Fighting between the Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army and paramilitaries spread on Friday to the outskirts of Wad Madani, a town so far spared from the violence where hundreds of thousands of Sudanese have taken refuge, an AFP correspondent reported.

The Sudanese army prevented civilians from entering the town, which was overflown on Friday by fighter jets and where the sound of explosions could be heard, according to the same source.

Since the start of the war on April 15 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Wad Madani, capital of al-Jazira state, 180 kilometers south of Khartoum, has become a refuge for half a million displaced persons fleeing the fighting in the capital, according to UN figures.

But in recent months, fighters have gradually been mobilized in the region, setting up checkpoints along the villages between Khartoum and Wad Madani.

On Friday, an AFP correspondent reported sounds of explosions coming from the northern outskirts of the town.

On social networks, Internet users who had already been displaced from Khartoum shared photos of columns of black smoke, expressing fears of having to flee the fighting again.

Stores and businesses were quickly closed on Friday, while families erupted into the streets in search of transport to get further south, once again seeking shelter, according to AFP's correspondent.

In a statement on Friday, the RSF said it was seeking to "assure the dear citizens" of al-Jazeera and Wad Madani that "the objective of our forces is to destroy the strongholds" of the army.

Since the beginning of the war, the two rival camps have accused each other of bombing residential areas and attacking civilians.

On April 15, army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane and his second-in-command, General Mohammed Hamdane Daglo, head of the dreaded RSF paramilitaries, turned their weapons on each other.

According to the UN, these eight months of war have left 12,000 people dead, a figure that is surely greatly underestimated given the extent to which entire areas of the country have been cut off from the rest of the world.

Senegal: 4 soldiers killed in the explosion of an anti-tank mine in Casamance
[AFRICANEWS] Four Senegalese soldiers were killed in Casamance when their vehicle hit an anti-tank mine in this region of southern Senegal in the grip of an independence rebellion, according to the army.

The incident occurred on Thursday "during a mission" in North Bignona, near the Gambian border, and also left "three injured", indicated the Directorate of Public Relations of the Armed Forces (Dirpa) in a press release on X (formerly Twitter).

Asked by AFP, Dirpa did not provide further details on the circumstances of the accident.

For several months, the army has been carrying out security operations against rebels from the Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (MFDC) who are demanding the independence of this border region of Gambia and Guinea-Bissau.

Casamance is the scene of one of the oldest rebellions on the African continent since separatists took to the underground with rudimentary weapons after the repression of an MFDC march in December 1982.

After causing thousands of victims and devastating the economy, the conflict persisted slowly. The last time the Senegalese army communicated about the death of one of its soldiers was in January 2023, but military operations have continued since.

In recent years, the Senegalese authorities have undertaken to resettle the displaced after announcing the destruction of several rebel bases, particularly on the border with Guinea-Bissau.

Senegalese President Macky Sall, elected in 2012 and then re-elected in 2019, has made peace in Casamance one of his priorities.

Several peace agreements, which quickly became obsolete, were signed between the Senegalese government and rebels.

One of the last announcements was concluded in August 2022 in Bissau between the State and rebel leader César Atoute Badiate, following mediation by the Guinea-Bissau head of state Umaro Sissoco Embalo.

rebels on merchant ships.

"Following the near-miss incident involving Maersk Gibraltar yesterday and yet another attack on a container vessel today, we have instructed all Maersk vessels in the area bound to pass through the Bab al-Mandab Strait to pause their journey until further notice," the Danish company said a statement to AFP.

German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd announced it too was suspending Red Sea container ship traffic until December 18, after one of its vessels was attacked by the Houthis.

"Hapag-Lloyd is interrupting all container ship traffic across the Red Sea until Monday," the company said in a statement sent to AFP.

At that point, they would make a decision on the subsequent period, it added.

The statements came after a ballistic missile fired by Yemen’s Houthi rebels slammed into a fat merchantman Friday in the Red Sea near the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, following another attack only hours earlier that struck a separate vessel, authorities said.

The missile attack on the MSC Palatium III and the earlier assault on the Al Jasrah escalated a maritime campaign by the Iranian-backed Houthis.

The attacks also endanger ships traveling through a vital corridor for cargo and energy shipments for both Europa

Strip need," the Houthi military front man, Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, said in a statement claiming responsibility for Friday’s attacks.

War erupted in Gaza after Hamas’s October 7 massacre. In response, Israel vowed to eliminate Hamas and launched a wide-scale offensive aimed at rooting out the terror organization’s military and governance capabilities. The offensive has drawn international reproach for its mounting corpse count, with the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reporting over 18,000 Paleostinians dead. However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the number cannot be independently verified and is believed to include some 7,000 Hamas and Hamas-affiliated terror operatives as well as civilians killed by misfired Paleostinian rockets.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
hijackers, likely from Somalia, separately seized a Bulgarian ship in the Arabian Sea.

A US defense official and the private intelligence firm Ambrey said the MSC Palatium III, a Liberian-flagged container ship, caught fire after the strike. It was not immediately clear if anyone on board the vessel had been hurt.

Two missiles were fired in the attack, likely trying to hit the Al Jasrah, the US official said. One went wide and splashed down in the water, the other slammed into the Palatium, the official said. The Palatium turned around after the attack and was now trying to head south, tracking data analyzed by The News Agency that Dare Not be Named showed.

The Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
-based MSC, or Mediterranean Shipping Co., earlier had another vessel, the MSC Alanya, warned by the Houthis around the Bab el-Mandeb, Ambrey said. "The parent company had cooperated with Israel, and this was likely the reason why she was threatened."

The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters. MSC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In the earlier Al Jasrah attack, it remained unclear if it was a missile or drone that hit the vessel, the official said. Ambrey and the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, which monitors Mideast shipping lanes, also confirmed that attack.

"The projectile reportedly hit the port side of the vessel and one container fell overboard due to the impact," Ambrey said. "The projectile caused a ’fire on deck’ which was broadcast via" radio.

Shipper Hapag-Lloyd said no crew member had been hurt in the attack. It later announced that it was also pausing its ships through the Red Sea until Monday and "will decide for the period thereafter."

Ambrey noted that Hapag-Lloyd "is known to have offices in the Israeli ports of Ashdod, Haifa and Tel Aviv."

In his statement, military front man Saree claimed the Houthis targeted the Palatium III and the Alanya — not the Al Jasrah. It was not immediately clear why he erroneously identified the second ship.

The attacks Friday further escalate a campaign by the Houthi rebels, who have grabbed credit for a series of missile assaults in recent days that just missed shipping in the Red Sea and its strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

On Thursday, the Houthis fired a ballistic missile that missed a container ship traveling through the strait.

The day before that, two missiles fired from Houthi-held territory missed a commercial tanker loaded with Indian-manufactured jet fuel near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Also near the strait, a missile fired by Houthis on Monday night slammed into a Norwegian-flagged tanker in the Red Sea.

Global shipping has increasingly been targeted as the Israel-Hamas war threatens to become a wider regional conflict — even during a brief pause in fighting at the end of November during which Hamas exchanged 105 hostages for 240 Paleostinian prisoners held by Israel. The collapse of the truce at the beginning of December has raised the risk of more sea attacks.

The Bab el-Mandeb Strait is only 29 kilometers (18 miles) wide at its narrowest point, limiting traffic to two channels for inbound and outbound shipments, according to the US Energy Information Administration. Nearly 10% of all oil traded at sea passes through it. An estimated $1 trillion in goods pass through the strait annually.

10 IEDs found at US-Mexico border in cartel gunfight
[FoxBusiness] CBP is warning its agents to 'exercise extreme caution' after the Mexican military seized 10 IEDs at the border.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is warning agents to be on the lookout for explosive devices.

A federal law-enforcement source shared with FOX Business Network an internal officer safety alert dated December 13th that warns CBP agents to be vigilant after the Mexican military seized 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the border.

The IEDs were found by Mexican authorities after Tucson border patrol observed gunshots at the U.S.-Mexico border and a Tucson supervisory border patrol agent arrested an armed person on the U.S. side who had a loaded AK-47 rifle, two loaded AK magazines, loose rounds and a handgun.

CBP is warning its agents to "exercise extreme caution and should report any possible armed subjects approaching the border with possible explosive devices," according to the memo.

A source tells FOX Business this cartel gun fight erupted over a gap in the border fence at the ranch that is typically used to smuggle drugs through. Now it’s a magnet for the cartel for human smuggling — and the gangs were fighting for control.

CBP's warning comes as Republicans are pushing for increased border safety measures to be included in President Biden’s $106 billion aid package for Israel and Ukraine.

GOP border hawks have demanded that any aid package include the entirety of H.R. 2 — the House signature legislation passed in the chamber this year which ramps up border security, restarts border wall construction, brings back the Remain-in-Mexico policy and limits the use of asylum and humanitarian parole among other sweeping changes.

However, President Biden and Senate Democrats have rejected the sweeping border security bill, claiming that it would "cut off nearly all access to humanitarian protections in ways that are inconsistent with our Nation’s values and international obligations."

A Senate working group released a slimmer version of proposals taken in part from H.R. 2, but that was also shot down by the White House and Senate Democrats. This week it was reported that the administration was open to a Title 42-type expulsion authority in certain circumstances, expanded expedited removal and a broadening of immigration detention. Those proposals drew optimism from some Senate Republicans, even as some Democrats and immigration activists condemned them.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. announced Thursday the Senate would return early from its holiday recess to continue border talks.

"That will give negotiators from the White House, Senate Democrats, Senate Republicans, a time to work through the weekend in an effort to reach a framework agreement. It will then take some time to turn that framework into text," Schumer said on the Senate floor.

Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., one of the Republicans involved in the talks, told Fox News Digital on Thursday that the White House has yet to put a border proposal on paper. He said that if a deal is reached, lawmakers will need time to review it — possibly kicking a vote into the new year.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Tuesday saw another day in which overwhelmed officials at the border encountered more than 10,000 migrants in a single day.

According to the investigation and the court, he posted text materials on one of the social networks containing justification for terrorist activities, the report says.

As follows from the case file on the website of the Southern District Military Court, the case of Lion Pheshkhov was submitted to the court in June, and five court hearings were held.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that a resident of the Urvansky district, as a minor, posted audio recordings on social networks with calls for terrorism and justification for such actions, the investigation suggested, announcing the transfer of the case to court.

A terrorist attack fails
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist

[ColonelCassad] The gang of Islamists who wanted to blow up the FSB building on Lubyanka in 2022 got it in full.

The Wahhabis who tried to blow up the FSB building were given 16 to 22 years today.

A group of radical Islamists planned a terrorist attack at the central office of the FSB on Lubyanka, demanding the withdrawal of troops from Syria. Among the terrorists there was one native of Dagestan, the rest (including the gang leader) were foreign specialists from Tajikistan.

It is interesting that one defendant testified against the rest of the “brothers” and received 12 years, others were given from 16 to 22.

“Based on the totality of crimes and by partial addition of sentences, assign Manuchehra Buriev 22 years of imprisonment in a maximum security correctional colony, Samandar Toshmurodov - 20 years, Gadzhimurad Gasanaliev - 19 years, Abdukodir Toirov - 17 years , Abdumalik Samiev - 17 years old and Rajabali Buriev - 16 years in a maximum security colony,” the verdict says.

The terrorist attack was planned to be carried out last year with the help of a suicide bomber, and the key requirement was the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria . By the time of their arrest, the radicals were diligently spending their time in Moscow, working as couriers and laborers on construction sites; most of the most valuable specialists had only graduated from high school.

Merob Khaitov, who ratted out the entire group, was convicted back in October.2.
They were ISIS, according the previous article in the Rantburg archive. I’m so glad Fred lets us access the thing.
Of course, no one is leaving Syria. On the contrary, in light of the expansion of the African campaign, the role of Khmeimim as a transit base will only grow.1. It is a pity that the country does not have the death penalty for terrorism.

Europe
Hamas-Inspired Anti-Semitism in France
[SWC] Since the murderous 7 October terror attack by Hamas in Southern Israel, no less than 1,800 anti-Semitic incidents have been reported in France. Though a record number of perpetrators have been identified, most are still on the loose. In several cases, acts and threats of violence are directed towards women," stated Wiesenthal Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels. Some examples:

1) In November, a 30 year-old, in Lyon, was stabbed in her stomach. A swastika had been etched next to a mezuzah, the small prayer box usually attached to the doorpost of a Jewish home. The perpetrator is still at large. Police suggested the act may be related to the Israel-Hamas conflict.

2) Again last month, a Jewish woman, parking her car next to a Talmudic school in AIx-les-Bains, was insulted by a passer-by, who shouted "Dirty Jew!" and also pepper-sprayed her. The perpetrator was another woman, identified by witnesses and apparently found in possession of drugs when arrested. She confessed using pepper-spray, but denied the anti-Semitic insults (that could add 6 months and a hefty fine to her sentence). She is reportedly not kept in jail, while her trial is planned for February.

3) Several reports of intimidation in the Paris metro have surfaced, from the gang chanting "Fuck the Jews and their mothers..." to another incident, apparently involving a young man wearing a hoodie, who asked a girl: "Are you Jewish?" When she promptly denied, he said "Good, because if you were a Jew, I’d have to kill you!" In this case, the offender has not been identified and caught.

4) This Tuesday, a knife-wielding individual entered a Jewish day nursery in a Paris suburb, threatening to kill the Jewish director, a 45 year-old mother. He slammed his fist on her desk, waving the 5-inch knife, screaming "You Jew, you Zionist, I will return with five others to rape you, then we’ll cut you up like they did in Gaza." When questioned by the police, she noted that the children were safe beyond a security door, while the perpetrator seemed to be "high on drugs"... So were, according to medical reports, many of the terrorists on 7 October.

5) Since the war against Hamas began, many cases of insults and threats of violence through social media have been reported by high-school and university students, often evoking the mass sexual assault by Gaza-based terrorists, in order to further intimidate young women. Of course, in most of these cases, the anonymous trolls are untrackable...

"It is essential that perpetrators of anti-Semitic violence, insults and threats be identified, tried and sentenced rapidly and effectively. They must be confronted by the force of the law and face justice. Hamas-style brutality, especially against women and children, must not come to Paris!" concluded Samuels.

Denmark says 4 arrested over suspected terror plot
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[DW] Three suspects were arrested in Denmark, and one was arrested in the Netherlands. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later claimed that the suspects were linked to bad boy group Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
Danish police said they prevented a terror attack on Thursday after announcing that four people had been arrested.

Three suspects were arrested in Denmark, and a fourth was arrested in the Netherlands.

"The investigation has revealed that a network of people has been preparing a terrorist act," said Flemming Drejer, chief superintendent of the Danish intelligence agency, PET.

"The arrests and the raids we're carrying out today are based on an intensive investigation that PET has carried out in close cooperation with our partners abroad," Drejerm said.

Police raids were ongoing across the country, he added.

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE ALLEGED TERROR PLOT?
Drejer said the suspects would face a custody hearing within 24 hours, likely behind "double closed doors," meaning that he could not give details about the case, any target or motive.

He said the arrests were "carried out in close collaboration with our foreign partners" and that police had "a special focus" on Jewish institutions.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later said the suspects were operating "on behalf of" Hamas, which is considered a terror group by the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
and several other governments.

"This is extremely serious," Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen on the sidelines of the year's final EU summit in Brussels.

"It is of course — in relation to Israel and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. — completely unacceptable for someone to bring a conflict elsewhere in the world into Danish society," she said.

"For a number of years now, we have seen that there are people living in Denmark who do not wish us well," she added, "who are against our freedom and who are against Danish society, with all that it entails."

Later on Thursday, German prosecutors announced three arrests of suspected Hamas members in Berlin and another in Rotterdam. Danish security officials said there is no direct link between the two sets of arrests
Danish intelligence agency PET on Thursday announced the arrests of three people on suspicion of plotting to carry out "an act of terror." One of them, identified by Danish media as a 29-year-old man, was released, prosecutor Anders Larsson said early Friday after a night-long custody hearing at a Copenhagen court. nvestigation in Germany.

Larsson also said that four other people were held in "pretrial custody in absentia," but he didn’t say whether authorities knew their whereabouts or if an active search for them was underway. Without elaborating, he said there was "still someone on the lam."

Germany, Netherlands arrest 4 over Hamas plot
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[DW] Public prosecutors say four members of the militant Islamist Hamas group were detained, three in Berlin and one in the Netherlands. They were arrested on suspicion of planning attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe.

Four members of the holy warrior Islamist group Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
were arrested in Berlin and the Netherlands,
...Rotterdam, specifically...
German public prosecutors said on Thursday.
Yesterday we learnt that the Rotterdam man is 57.
Prosecutors said they were detained on suspicion of planning for attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe, specifically by trying to find and store weapons in Berlin for that purpose.

The men were said to be known members of Hamas with close links to the organization's military branch, one with Dutch nationality, two born in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
and another with Egyptian citizenship.
An interesting mix. None appear to be Palestinians from Gaza, so why did they join Hamas instead one of the myriad groups in Lebanon, Egypt, or elsewhere?
"Following the terrible attacks by Hamas on the Israeli population, attacks on Jews in Jewish institutions have also increased in our country in recent weeks," German Justice Minister Marco Buschmann said after the arrests.

"We must therefore do everything we can to ensure that Jews in our country do not have to fear for their safety again," he said.

WHAT ELSE DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE ARRESTS?
Germany's federal prosecutors' office, based in Karslruhe, said in its statement that the men were in contact "via a close connection" to the "leadership of the military wing of Hamas."

One of the main charges they face is membership of a terrorist organization. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by Germany, Israel, the US, the EU and other governments.

But Sherlocks said their arrest was ultimately tied to a prior Hamas cache of weapons designated for potential future attacks on Jewish institutions in Europe.
Oh? Good thing they were declared a terrorist organization.
By early 2023 at the latest, one of the men residing in Berlin had been assigned with finding the underground cache and moving the weapons to the Berlin area, prosecutors allege. The three Berlin-based suspects had reportedly since sought to locate the weapons several times, including with help from the man arrested in Rotterdam.

Investigators said they did not believe the plot had a direct connection to Hamas' October 7 attacks or Israel's subsequent response, instead saying their investigations showed the plans preceded these events.

Investigators in Germany and Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
have been on heightened alert for potential terrorist plots amid the conflict in the Middle East.

SIMILAR ARRESTS IN DENMARK ON THURSDAY
Earlier on Thursday, Danish police said they prevented a terror attack and arrested four people. Three suspects were arrested in Denmark, and a fourth was arrested in the Netherlands.

Boy, 13, gets probation for online plot to attack Canton's Temple
On the internet no one can tell if you’re a dog... or a 13-year old.
[MSN -Repository] A 13-year-old has been convicted of juvenile charges tied to an online plot to "burn down and shoot up" Temple Israel, a Jewish synagogue.

The Plain Township boy pleaded true, the juvenile equivalent of guilty, to misdemeanor counts of inducing panic and disorderly conduct during a court appearance Friday.

Stark County Family Court Judge Jim James then sentenced the boy to a year of probation, according to a court document filed in the case.

During the next year, he's not permitted to use the internet without supervision. He has to read a book about Carl Lutz, the Swiss diplomat credited with saving the lives of tens of thousands of Jews from the Holocaust in Budapest, Hungary, during World War II. The boy then must submit a book report to the juvenile probation department.

The 13-year-old also has to continue to get counseling with a licensed therapist.

BOY IN TEMPLE ISRAEL PLOT GETS SUSPENDED SENTENCE
The judge suspended a 90-day sentence at the Multi-County Juvenile Attention Center. If the boy violates the terms of his probation, he could be ordered to serve the remaining sentence. The judge credited the boy with 10 days the youth served at Multi-County after his September arrest.

An upcoming hearing in the case, initially scheduled for Wednesday, was canceled.

Friday's hearing, which was not scheduled as of a couple of days ago, took place a day after Stark County Family Court Judge Michelle Cordova signed an order sealing, except for his initials, the boy's name or any information that could lead to him being identified from public disclosure, including the name of his mother.

The order came as the national media took interest in the case amid national scrutiny of antisemitism across the country since the Hamas

attacks in Israel on Oct. 7 that killed about 1,200. The Stark County Prosecutor's Office sought the order.

TEMPLE ISRAEL ONLINE ATTACK DISCUSSED ON DISCORD
On Thursday, the Stark County Sheriff's Office released an incident report that shows that an FBI agent and two county sheriff's deputies met with the boy and his mother on Sept. 7 at their Plain Township home.

The agent said he had learned the boy was discussing with an unknown person in Washington plans to burn down and conduct a shooting at Temple Israel in Canton. The boy had obtained a map of the synagogue.

The boy confirmed to the agent that he was a member of more than one antisemitic group in Discord, according to the sheriff's office report. The deputies then arrested the boy.

It's not clear if the person in Washington was also questioned or arrested.

The group-chat app platform Discord later said it had reported the discussions the boy was having online to the FBI.

The deputies advised the mom that the boy was not to return to school until the school district superintendent spoke with the boy and the mom. It's not clear if the boy has returned to school.

Drones from Lebanon penetrate Israel's north, IDF strikes Hezbollah
[JPost] Two drones penetrated Israeli territory on Saturday, local and military sources reported. One of the drones was downed, the other crashed and started a fire.

Alarms sounded in Israel's north on Saturday morning indicating the intrusion of hostile aircraft into Israeli airspace.

The Upper Galilee Regional Council later confirmed that a drone was identified in Israel's Hula Valley region.

The drone reportedly crashed in the Margaliot area.

The IDF subsequently released a statement on the event, noting that air defense systems intercepted a drone that had infiltrated into Israeli territory from Lebanon. The IDF also confirmed the the Upper Galilee Regional Council report, stating that a second drone crashed into the Margaliot area.

The IDF responded to the drone infiltrations with artillery fire at targets in Lebanese territory.

Later, the Israeli Northern District’s fire and rescue services said that the drone that had crashed in the Margaliot area had caused a fire in a local building.

Two firefighting teams subsequently worked to extinguish the blaze, managing to do so as they worked alongside IDF personnel at the scene to search for injured individuals and prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby forest.

Erdan tells the UN Israel's missile defenses protected Al Aqsa from Hamas fire
[Ynet] Israel's ambassador to the UN late on Friday, showed the plenum images of the Iron Dome missile defense system, intercepting missiles aimed at Jerusalem and said it was Israel who protected the Al Aqsa mosque from Hamas fire.

The terror group launched eight rockets at Jerusalem and surrounding areas on Friday for the first time in a month. The Iron Dome intercepted some of the rockets and no injuries were reported.

"Today Hamas proved that murdering Israelis is even more important than preserving Islamic holy sites the claim to protect," Erdan said. "Just as ISIS was willing to destroy mosques, Hamas — ISIS is willing to blow up Al Aqsa and so many of you are willing to defend them."

He said a so-called humanitarian cease-fire is a white wash that only aims to keep Hamas in power, as he criticized the UN resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza. "This resolution has a distorted agenda," he said. "This resolution aims to keep Hamas in power, period."

IDF troops mistakenly open fire and kill 3 hostages in northern Gaza battlefield
[IsraelTimes] IDF spokesperson: Army responsible for ’tragic incident’ in which Yotam Haim, Samar Talalka, Alon Shamriz rubbed out Friday morning; earlier, the IDF announced the recovery of the bodies of three Hamas captives, two soldiers and a civilian.

’s Shejaiya neighborhood as a threat and shot up them, killing them, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari announced Friday evening.

Hagari said the IDF bears full responsibility for the "tragic incident," which took place on Friday morning, "in an area where the soldiers encountered many terrorists, including jacket wallahs."

Hagari named the hostages as Yotam Haim, who was kidnapped by Hamas
...one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
from Kibbutz Kfar Aza, and Samar Fouad Talalka, who was kidnapped from Nir Am. The third hostage was later named as Alon Shamriz, also from Kfar Aza.

The incident occurred in the Gaza neighborhood that has seen some of the heaviest fighting in recent days.

Political leaders were quick to express their shock at the incident but stressed that the IDF would implement the lessons learned and push ahead with their offensive — even as family members of the hostages increased calls to pursue a new ceasefire that could lead to a deal to free their loved ones,

Haim, 28, was a drummer for heavy metal band Persephore. He was last seen in a video he took on the morning of October 7, showing himself in the front door of his Kfar Aza home, before he was kidnapped to Gaza.

Talalka, 22, was working in the Kibbutz Nir Am hatchery, where he often did the weekend shifts, when Hamas Lions of Islam stormed the kibbutz.

Shamriz, 26, a computer engineering student, was kidnapped from his Kibbutz Kfar Aza home on October 7.

Asked how the hostages were able to escape Hamas captivity, Hagari said the military believes that "the three fled or were abandoned by the Lions of Islam who held them captive" as IDF forces closed in.

Shejaiya in northern Gaza has long been seen as a key Hamas stronghold, home to some of its most elite forces and heaviest fortifications. The area where the hostages were killed was close to the scene of a deadly battle on Wednesday where nine soldiers, including two senior commanders, were killed.

The military believes Hamas’s Shejaiya battalion’s command and control is largely disrupted, and the terror group is operating in the area in a less organized manner, with smaller squads. According to Hebrew media reports, Gazook civilians are prohibited from the Shejaiya area, where Hamas often uses unarmed civilians as scouts.

IDF forces have been battling Hamas in the Gaza Strip since late October. War erupted after the terror group’s October 7 massacre, which saw some 3,000 Lions of Islam burst across the border into Israel from the Gaza Strip by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing over 240 hostages of all ages, mostly civilians.

In response, Israel vowed to eliminate Hamas, and launched a wide-scale offensive in Gaza. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza has claimed that more than 18,700 Paleostinians have been killed since the start of the war. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
the number cannot be independently verified and is believed to include some 7,000 Hamas and Hamas-affiliated terror operatives as well as civilians killed by misfired Paleostinian rockets.

It is believed that 132 hostages remain in Gaza — not all of them alive — after 105 civilians were released from Hamas captivity during a weeklong truce in late November. The IDF has confirmed the deaths of 20 of those still held by Hamas, citing new intelligence and findings obtained by troops operating in Gaza.

In his statement, Hagari said that "after the shooting, during a scan and examination, an immediate suspicion arose regarding the identity of the dead, and their bodies were quickly transferred for examination in Israel, where the hostages were identified."

"This is a sad and painful event for all of us, and the IDF bears responsibility for everything that happened," he said.

Hagari said the IDF was already investigating the incident, "which took place in a battle zone where the troops encountered many Lions of Islam in recent days, and today, and fought hard battles," he said.

"In some cases, suicide bombers were encountered, and also attacks in which Lions of Islam tried to lure our forces and draw them into an ambush. Shortly after the tragic incident, another encounter with Lions of Islam took place near the scene of the incident," Hagari said.

He said the IDF was still working to "gather the facts and clarify the details of the incident." Meanwhile,
...back at the laboratory, Igor and Oleg were discussing what the quickest way might be to deal with the monster...
new protocols for identifying hostages were transferred to ground forces, "to do everything to prevent another tragic event like this."

"The IDF expresses deep sorrow for the disaster and shares in the grief of the families. May their memory be blessed," Hagari added.

Political leaders expressed their sorrow at the incident but vowed to press on.

The mayor of the Bedouin town of Rahat, where Talalka was a resident, mourned the mistaken killing of the hostages.

"Such bitter news: Bedouins and Jews were taken hostage together, managed to flee together in an effort to continue their lives — and ended their lives together in this very tragic event," Ata Abu Madighem told Army Radio.

ROCKETS AT JERUSALEM
Hours earlier, several rockets fired from Gaza were intercepted in the Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh area, in the first barrage on the capital in over a month. Eyewitnesses reported at least three interceptions by the Iron Dome rocket defense system, while later reports indicated a total of six intercepts. Magen David Adom said one rocket fell in open ground in the Beit Shemesh area, where henhouses sustained damage. Falling shrapnel also hit a high-voltage wire.

Hamas’s military wing grabbed credit for the barrage, as footage circulated on social media apparently showing one of the rockets landing near a hospital in the Paleostinian city of Ramallah, in the West Bank, just north of Jerusalem.

Earlier Friday, the IDF announced that troops operating in Gaza had recovered the bodies of two soldiers and one civilian hostage who were taken captive by Hamas Lions of Islam on October 7. The military also announced the deaths of three more soldiers as heavy fighting continued in the Strip, pushing the toll of fallen troops in the ground offensive against Hamas to 119.

In a visit with troops in Gaza, IDF intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Haliva said that Israel "must continue to pressure the enemy, continue to kill the enemy, continue to destroy the enemy. The campaign has multiple theaters and has months to go."

I believe it was the movie The Dark Knight where hostages were dressed up as the hostage takers in order to bait them being killed by their rescuers.

Historically, IIRC and IIUC, one of the things the Mongals did (and I'm sure that isn't unique, see Vercengetorix and releasing civilians to be a buffer between themselves and Caesar's troops) was push non-combatants into the no-man's land as meat catchers.

Hard to believe they would just be gunned down, just because.

Gunmen kill 11 victims, including police officers, injure others during attack on Iranian police station
[FoxNews] An attack-turned-shootout on a police station on Friday left 11 people dead and eight others wounded in southeastern Iran, state TV reported.

Senior police officers and soldiers were among those killed and wounded in the 2 a.m. attack in Rask town, about 875 miles southwest of Tehran, according to Ali Reza Marhemati, the deputy governor of Sistan and Baluchestan province.

The deputy governor said police were able to kill several of the attackers in the shootout.

State TV blamed the attack on Jaish al-Adl,

a separatist militant group that typically conduct hit-and-run operations from their hideouts in neighboring Pakistan. In 2019, Jaish al-Adl claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing on a bus that killed 27 members of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.
