Slain Hamas deputy chief buried in Palestinian camp in Beirut
To be welcomed by Satan into Hell, surrounded by his fellows.
[GEO.TV] The slain deputy chief of Hamas, Saleh al-Arouri, was buried in the Palestinian camp of Shatila in Beirut on Thursday, amid throngs of mourners launching volleys of gunfire.

Arouri was martyred in a drone strike on Tuesday on the southern suburb of Beirut, a stronghold of allied Lebanese armed group Hezbollah, as he was meeting with a group of Palestinian and Lebanese men from factions allied to Hamas.

The attack was widely attributed to Hamas' sworn foe Israel. Israel, which has laid waste to the Gaza Strip in a war aimed at wiping out Hamas, has neither confirmed nor denied that it assassinated Arouri.

All seven people attending the meeting in Beirut were killed. The bodies of several, including Arouri, were blown into several parts by the strike, complicating preparations for the burial.

Two of the Palestinians — a member of Hamas's armed wing the Qassam Brigades and another Palestinian — who were martyred alongside Arouri were also buried in Shatila Martyrs Cemetery that is the graveyard for Palestinians, including civilians, political officials and combatants.

"Palestine and Lebanon bid farewell today, along with the people of the nation, to strong men who fought battles in all fields and directions," said Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in a statement from outside Lebanon.

Their coffins were draped in Palestinian flags and carried by men wearing green caps with "Hamas" written on the front. Heavy bursts of gunfire rang out for hours.

Sudan recalls ambassador to Kenya over Hemetti's reception
[SUDANTRIBUNE] The Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that it had recalled its ambassador to Kenya, Kamal Jubbara, in protest against the official reception hosted by the Kenyan government for Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo "Hemetti," the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), on Wednesday.

In a statement to the Sudan News Agency, Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali al-Sadiq stated that Sudan had recalled its ambassador for consultations to express its strong disapproval of the Kenyan government’s "official reception of the leader of the rebel militia (Hemetti) upon his visit there yesterday."

Al-Sadiq further condemned Kenya for failing to acknowledge the "terrible abuses" committed by the RSF, including the destruction of infrastructure, the country’s capabilities, and civilians’ property.

Arabia
Houthi “drone boat” exploded in the Red Sea, but was miles away from U.S. Navy assets
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

The Times of Israel adds:
Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
’s Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels grabbed credit Thursday for a drone ship attack on a cargo vessel traveling in a Red Sea strait through which a significant portion of the world’s shipping passes, but according to a US official, the missile missed.

The Houthi rebels said the Maersk Gibraltar container ship was "targeted with a drone and the hit was direct."

Houthi front man Yahya Saree said the attack came after the ship’s crew "refused to respond to the calls of the Yemeni naval services," and that it was intended as retaliation for the "oppression of the Paleostinian people."

Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, the head of US Navy operations in the Middle East, said it was the first time the Houthis had used an unmanned surface vessel, or USV, since their harassment of fat merchantmen in the Red Sea began after the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas
...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
war. They have, however, used them in years past.

Fabian Hinz, a missile expert and research fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, said the USVs are a key part of the Houthi maritime arsenal and were used during previous battles against the Saudi coalition forces that intervened in Yemen’s war. They have regularly been used as suicide drone boats that explode upon impact.

Most of the Houthi USVs are likely assembled in Yemen, but often fitted with components made in Iran, such as computerized guidance systems, Hinz said.

The Houthis have claimed a series of near-daily drone and missile assaults in the key maritime route, threatening international shipping in a pressure campaign over the war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
as he was not authorized to speak publicly, said the missile fired at the Maersk Gibraltar "missed the ship" and instead hit the water.

Later on Thursday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that a ballistic missile had been "fired from a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen toward the international shipping lane north of the Bab-el-Mandeb," the strait between Yemen and the Horn of Africa leading to the Red Sea.

There were no injuries or damages to the Hong Kong-flagged vessel, CENTCOM said in a post on social media platform X.

"While this incident did not involve US Forces, we continue to closely monitor the situation. These attacks continue to threaten international maritime security," it added.

Danish shipping giant Maersk confirmed no one was hurt in the incident involving its ship, which was sailing from Salalah, Oman to Jeddah, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
"The crew and vessel is reported safe," Maersk said in a statement, adding that the company was "still working to establish the facts of the incident."

Maersk said that "the recent attacks on commercial vessels... are extremely concerning."

"The current situation puts seafarer lives at risk and is unsustainable for global trade. As it cannot be solved by the global shipping industry on its own, we call on political action to ensure a swift de-escalation," it added.

Intelligence firm Ambrey said the Marshall Islands-owned ship was fired upon 45 nautical miles off the coast of Mocha, and also said that the crew was unharmed.

"Ambrey understands that the parent company has cooperated with an Israeli carrier but this particular vessel was not assessed to be Israeli-operated at the time of writing," the firm said in a statement.

As they did with several other vessels recently, the Houthis first ordered it to dock in a Yemeni port before firing on it when it did not comply, Ambrey said.

The drone attack came a day after 12 nations led by the United States jointly warned the Houthi rebels of unspecified consequences unless they halt their attacks on shipping vessels in the Red Sea.

Iraq
US claims strike that killed Shiite PMF big turban in Baghdad, names him for the record; Iraqi gov’t protests
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] PMF leader’s vehicle hit, according to US official; paramilitary force says Mushtaq Talib al-Saidi ’martyred’ in attack

The US military has carried out a strike in Baghdad against an Iraqi militia leader it blames for attacks against US forces in the country, killing him and another person, a US official told Rooters on Thursday.

The US official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the strike hit a vehicle in Baghdad. It targeted a leader of Harakat al Nujaba,
...more formally Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, officially the 12th Brigade, is a radical Iraqi Shi'ite paramilitary group that is especially active in Syria and Iraq. It was established in 2013 by Akram al-Kaabi to support Bashar al-Assad in Syria against Islamist rebels, at the behest of the IRGC's Quds Force, which provides the funding, weapons, and training....
the official said, without naming the person.

Earlier Thursday, the Popular Mobilization Force (PMF) said that the strike in Baghdad had killed a military commander of the ex-paramilitary force, with an Iraq security official reporting two deaths in a drone attack.

"A drone targeted the logistical support headquarters of PMF," mainly pro-Iranian former paramilitary units integrated into the Iraqi armed forces, said the security official.

The strike killed "two members and maimed seven others," said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
A PMF source, also asking not to be named, confirmed the corpse count and charged that the United States was behind the attack.

Harakat al-Nujaba, one of the PMF’s factions, said in a statement that "the deputy commander of operations for Baghdad, Mushtaq Talib al-Saidi" had been "martyred in a US strike."

There was no immediate comment from US officials, whose forces in Iraq and neighboring Syria have faced a surge in attacks since the start of the Israel-Hamas
...a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
war.

Videos shared on a Telegram channel linked to the PMF showed columns of smoke rising above the area of the strike on Baghdad’s Paleostine Street, normally a bustling commercial road.

Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
i said in a statement that the US-led international coalition bears responsibility for the "unjustified" attack on an Iraqi security force.

A tally by US military officials has counted at least 118 attacks against its troops in Iraq and Syria since October 17. Most of the attacks have been claimed by the Islamic Resistance® in Iraq, a loose formation of gangs affiliated with the PMF (also known as Hashed al-Shaabi), itself a coalition of former paramilitary forces integrated into Iraq’s regular armed forces.

The spike in tension has put Baghdad in a delicate situation. Iraq’s Prime Minister Sudani has tried to ease the strain between the krazed killer groups that helped him reach power and the US where Iraq’s foreign reserves are housed.

More from regnum.ru
Iraq reported that a pro-Iranian movement commander was killed in a UAV strike

[Regnum] A drone strike in the Iraqi capital killed one of the commanders of the pro-Iranian Shiite movement Hezbollah al-Nujabaa, as well as its supporter, the Shafaq News information portal reported on January 4, citing a source in the security forces.

According to him, the deceased was known as Abu Taqwa, he headed the 12th brigade of the movement, and was also a supporter of the Iraqi Shiite militia Al-Hashd al-Shaabi.

Hezbollah al-Nujabaa confirmed the death of the commander and blamed the United States for what happened. The target of the UAV attack, according to the portal's sources, was the headquarters of the logistics forces in Baghdad.

As Regnum reported, on January 3, two explosions occurred in the Iranian city of Kerman during a mourning ceremony on the anniversary of the death of General Qassem Soleimani. They were carried out remotely; the bombs were placed in bags that were lying near the mausoleum building. 103 people died, the number of injured exceeded 200 people.

Authorities called the incident a terrorist attack. Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi promised to find and punish those involved in the terrorist attack in Kerman. He also called on all officials to provide assistance to those injured during the terrorist attack.

The US State Department said on January 3 that the United States was not involved in the explosions in Iran and saw no reason to blame Israel for this. The White House is “closely monitoring” the situation in Iran, department spokesman Matthew Miller emphasized.
Update at 4:05 p.m. ET — Rudaw clarifies:
Harakat al-Nujaba comprises the PMF’s 12th brigade, and is among the Iran-backed groups that Washington blames for a spate of drone attacks on American interests in Iraq and Syria since mid-October in response to American support for Israel in its war against Palestinian Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

Among the casualties is Mushtaq Talib al-Saeedi, better known as Abu Taqwa. He was a former commander of al-Nujaba and the deputy commander of the PMF’s Baghdad Belt Operations.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
My Father Is an Imam in Gaza. Hamas Kidnapped Him for Refusing to Be Their Puppet.
[Free Press] RAFAH—On Saturday, December 30, our front door was busted down, and twenty masked men barged in and took my father, a widely respected and deeply learned imam here in Gaza.

One dragged him by his head, and another grabbed him by his beard. My younger brother tried to intervene and reason with the kidnappers, but they beat him. I have a medical condition that makes it hard for me to breathe, so all I could do was watch as the horror unfolded.

I know that if Hamas kills my father, they’ll say that the Israeli army did it. But my father was very keen that even if he died, we should make known the despicable demands they made of him. It was his last request to us, literally as he was being carried out of the door, that should he die, we should publicize the real reason for his death, and it is this:

He wouldn’t preach what Hamas told him to. He refused to tell Gazans that violent resistance and obedience to Hamas, is the best way out of our current hell.

This story starts before October 7, and even before 2007, when Hamas took control of Gaza.

Our family has lived in Gaza for generations. Before 2007, my father worked for the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. After Hamas took over, they forced him out of his position. This was a hard time for my family; my father was the sole breadwinner. Finally, after three long years, he came back to work first as a mosque servant, then a mosque guard, then an employee of the ministry and finally, he was appointed as a mosque imam. (My father is known throughout the Gaza Strip. He has a doctorate in sharia from Cairo’s storied Al-Azhar University, and is well-respected by his peers.)

For Hamas, being Muslim means supporting Hamas, and people who do not support Hamas aren’t Muslims. If you don’t abide by what Hamas tells you, you’ll lose your job or worse. To keep my father in line, ensuring that he would deliver only Hamas-approved Friday sermons and allow Hamas to use his mosque as a clandestine weapons depot, they arrested my brother and me at least ten times between 2016 and 2019. Sometimes they would speak politely, sometimes they would ask us to comply "for the sake of your sisters," but always the threat of violence loomed in the background. And several times we were beaten and humiliated in front of our father. They beat him, too, once nearly blinding him.

He was forced to do things for Hamas; move money around, store things, keep their secrets.

As an imam, my father keeps the keys to the mosque and is responsible for safeguarding large sums of money that Muslims give as zakat, the mandatory almsgiving of our faith. Hamas members would take advantage of his duties and use the mosque to stash money, weapons, and equipment.

Sometimes they’d bring a large, wrapped-up prayer rug, which they said had been donated—except my father wasn’t allowed to open the rugs; only special volunteers were allowed to open them or transport the rugs in and out. My father had to open and close the doors and allow the sacred space to be used as a warehouse for Hamas. What choice did he have? It’s a bitter truth that Hamas thinks of mosques as the property of their regime and that they store weapons there.

Once there were big boxes that were marked as food aid. There wasn’t food inside, but something made of iron.

The most egregious thing Hamas imposed on my father was the content of his Friday sermons. They instructed him to brainwash people with their politics, to stick with Hamas and with the "resistance," and that it’s the only choice. That those who died fighting would be rewarded with 72 black-eyed virgins. Patience, jihad, all of that stuff. Hamas exploits our religion, pretending to be modern-day prophets, likening themselves to the companions of the prophet Muhammad.

Nobody told my father there was a plan to attack Israel on October 7. There’s just this constant overarching message within the mosques, Islamic classes, sermons, and lectures, that the "resistance"—meaning Hamas and only Hamas—is the only way to liberate Al-Aqsa and the only way to alleviate our suffering.

They do all this brainwashing to make you think the cause of our suffering is Israel. But I see very clearly who causes our suffering.

Whereas most aid in Gaza is only accessible to Hamas’s loyalists or those who toe the movement’s line, my father would collect and distribute zakat alms to those who actually needed it. Some congregants would donate food, furniture, and household goods; and many among Gaza’s neediest would come to my father, who would see that they were distributed fairly. My father also strove to give pious Muslims unbiased spiritual guidance, not the propaganda Hamas clerics deliver.

We fled our homes in Gaza City on October 20, moving from place to place until settling at my sister’s home in Rafah several weeks ago. Her home was bombed as well, and now roughly forty people, including women and seniors, are sharing space in a building that is partly reduced to rubble.

Since the war, Hamas has put enormous pressure on imams to persuade the population that their only choice is "the resistance." Schools and universities aren’t functioning; the one thing that draws people in is prayer.

But now we have reached a time when nearly everyone in Gaza is saying Hamas caused the death of 20,000 people in Gaza and the injury of 50,000 more. So when the group demanded that my father go to a school where thousands of displaced persons are sheltering and urge them to stand with the "resistance"—to trust Hamas—he flat-out refused. My father knows the difference between right and wrong. He knew that refusing to act as a megaphone for Hamas could lead to his death, and yet he refused. He has a clear conscience. So does everyone who knows what really happened to him, and why.

This time, it’s not like the prior wars. This time, people are telling the truth.

Before October 7, people were afraid—and of course some people are still afraid—but ironically, when there is fighting, Hamas goes underground, and people can be more vocal about how Hamas has ruined our lives. People are starting to publicly violate the laws, rules, dictates, and orders of Hamas. They are openly cursing Hamas and its leaders in the streets and markets, and ignoring the directives of the few Hamas officials and police still above ground. They have caused so much damage, it’s undeniable. They’ve imposed themselves on our society, on my father, for too long. We’re all paying the price. People want freedom. We hope deeply that this war will end, and that Hamas will end with it.

I don’t know where my father is. I don’t know if I will ever see him alive again. My hope in telling this story to the public, and putting my name to it, is to somehow offer my father a measure of protection. Hamas may wish to release him and show the world that they would never harm an admired mosque preacher. God alone knows the future, but what I know is that, under no circumstances, would my father want to become a propaganda tool.

#1  It is clear the HAMAS Leadership are not fighting for the Palestinian people, or for a Religion.

I see their leadership as nothing more than a Qatar paid and a Iranian directed figureheads. That use false natives to recruit suicide soldiers and are willing to sacrifice them, and endanger Palestinian civilians to maximize the Deaths of Israelis in order to keep their great paying job.

Qatar is the key financial backer and ally of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas. Qatar has transferred well over $1.8 billion to Hamas thru various channels.

The Obama White House ($1.7B+) & Biden White House ($6.2B+) send Iran planes loaded with over $8B in CASH. Which more than likely a good part ended up funding Hamas and other Islamic Terrorist agenda goals in the Middle East area and Africa.

Iran has openly given between $300M and $400M each year to support Hamas's terrorist activities, while calling it aid, and provides vast amounts of armament.

About $300 million so far "HAD" come from taxing Palestinians and their businesses.

Plus China has provided about $200M in Humanitarian aid, which we have read Hamas is stealing about 1/2 from the Palestinian people.

#2  devex, 7 feb 2018: Government data on Chinese aid remains opaque and patchy, bound to just two government-issued white papers in 2011 and 2014. The more recent paper states that China has spent about $51.9 billion on foreign assistance since 1950, around the time it began to deliver what it calls “emergency humanitarian aid” to North Korea and Vietnam. Three Israelis declared missing since October 7 were confirmed to be held hostage by Hamas in the Gaza Strip, IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari said Thursday, as troops continued to focus operations on the enclave’s central and southern areas.

Hagari’s announcement brought the total number of hostages in the Gaza Strip to 136, including the bodies of fallen IDF soldiers Oron Shaul and Hadar Goldin since 2014, as well as two Israeli civilians, Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed, who are both thought to be alive after entering the Strip of their own accord in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Hagari did not name the three, but family members identified them as Hanan Yablonka, 42, Idan Shtivi, 28, and Ilan Weiss, 56. Weiss was killed on October 7, and the terror groups have been holding his body.

Yablonka and Shtivi were both captured at the Supernova music festival. Weiss was believed killed fighting with the Kibbutz Be’eri security team that tried to ward off the terrorist assault. His wife and daughter were also captured and later released in a hostage deal.

The captives were taken during the Hamas terror group’s October 7 massacres, which saw some 3,000 gunnies burst across the border into Israel from Gaza by land, air and sea, killing some 1,200 people and seizing over 240 hostages, mostly civilians.

The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said Thursday at least 22,438 people have been killed in the Strip since the war erupted on October 7. The Hamas figure does not differentiate between civilians and combatants and includes Paleostinians killed by errant rocket fire from Gaza. Israel says it has killed 8,500 gunnies since launching the war.

The IDF said Thursday that reservists of the Kiryati Armored Brigade and 55th Paratroopers Brigade operating in southern Gaza had killed many Hamas fighters of the terror group’s northern and eastern Khan Younis battalions, and significantly damaged their command and control, preventing operatives from carrying out large-scale attacks on troops.

The IDF released footage of the two reserve brigades operating in the Khan Younis area, killing Hamas button men in tunnels and detaining operatives of the terror group’s elite Nukhba force.

The commander of the Kiryati Brigade, Col. Mickey Sharvit, said that in their area of operations "there is no innocent infrastructure."

"We encounter terror in almost every home, in hospitals and schools. Our forces even eliminated gunnies who emerged from an underground [tunnel] in a school," he added.

The IDF said the reservist troops located and destroyed a Hamas tunnel shaft leading to an underground passage of several hundred meters in the Khan Younis area.

Sharvit said some 20 Hamas operatives, including a company commander, were killed by the IDF inside the tunnel. The IDF said that five members of the terror group’s elite force escaped the tunnel and surrendered to troops.

The button men who surrendered told field interrogators that strikes on underground Hamas hideouts in the area killed many operatives, including two company commanders in Hamas’s northern and eastern Khan Younis battalions, according to the IDF.

The commander of the 55th Brigade, Col. Oded Ziman, meanwhile, hailed the "extraordinary" cooperation with the Israeli Air Force.

"As a brigade commander I never dreamed of such good and fast cooperation," Ziman said, recalling an incident earlier on Thursday in which an attack helicopter provided air support within two minutes of radioing in the request.

Also Thursday, the IDF announced that it had eliminated senior Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

in Gaza.

In a joint statement with the Shin Bet, the IDF said Lulu served as an assistant to the commanders of the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad’s northern Gaza division, and that he also maintained contact with officials abroad.

"Lulu was a central figure in the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad, initiating and leading numerous terror attacks and assaults from Gaza against the State of Israel, routinely and during the war," the joint statement added.

In central Gaza, the IDF said Thursday that troops had uncovered and destroyed a Hamas underground weapons manufacturing plant on the coast of central Gaza.

Over the past week, troops of the 179th Armored Brigade, the Navy’s Shayetet 13 commando unit and the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit raided a Hamas compound, where they located several tunnel shafts, according to the IDF.

The tunnel shafts led to an underground network spanning hundreds of meters, the army said, adding that troops located a cache of weapons, including mortars, grenades and RPGs. Nearby, several more tunnel shafts were found by Shayetet 13 and Yahalom forces, which led to another underground network of branching tunnels.

The IDF said the tunnels featured blast doors, and behind them, the troops found a weapons manufacturing plant. The underground room had machinery, cooling fans, kabooms and rocket fuel.

The tunnels were later destroyed by combat engineers.

During a tour of the central Gaza border on Thursday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Hamas fighters who are counting on the IDF to soon leave the Strip "need to change the count until the end of their lives."

"In the north of the Gaza Strip, forces are completing the current mission. They are reorganizing with the intention of carrying out raids and airstrikes soon," Gallant said. In central Gaza, he added, the fighting "is intense."

"The forces are working above ground and underground, destroying central infrastructures of the Hamas organization, including the places where Hamas produced all its missiles and supplied them all over the Strip," Gallant said, adding, "Those gunnies who started counting down the time to the departure of the IDF forces, need to change the count, they need to start counting until the end of their lives on earth, it will come soon."

Mother and uncle of a US serviceman are rescued from Gaza in secret operation
[IsraelTimes] US official says Zahra Sckak and her brother-in-law Farid Sukaik made it out of war-torn enclave on New Year’s Eve in combined effort by US, Israel, Egypt and others

after being rescued from the fighting in a secret operation coordinated by the US, Israel, Egypt and others, a US official told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named on Wednesday.

It is the only known operation of its kind to extract American citizens and their close family members during the months of devastating ground fighting and Israeli Arclight airstrike

s in Gaza. The vast majority of people who have made it out of northern and central Gaza through the Rafah crossing into Egypt fled south in the initial weeks of the war. An escape from the heart of the Paleostinian enclave through intense combat has become far more perilous and difficult since.

Zahra Sckak, 44, made it out of Gaza on New Year’s Eve, along with her brother-in-law, Farid Sukaik, an American citizen, a US official told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to confirm the rescue, which had been kept quiet for security reasons.

Sckak’s husband, Abedalla Sckak, was shot earlier in the Israel-Hamas

war as the family fled from a building hit by an airstrike. He died days later. One of her three American sons, Spec. Ragi A. Sckak, 24, serves as an infantryman in the US military.

The extraction involved the Israeli military and local Israeli officials who oversee Gaza and the West Bank, the US official said. There was no indication that American officials were on the ground in Gaza.

"The United States played solely a liaison and coordinating role between the Sckak family and the governments of Israel and Egypt," the official said.

A family member and US-based lawyers and advocates working on the family’s behalf had described Sckak and Sukaik as pinned down in a building surrounded by combatants, with little or no food and with only water from sewers to drink.

There were few immediate details of the on-the-ground operation. It took place after extended appeals from Sckak’s family and US-based citizens groups for help from Congress members and US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. ‘This Is A Man ThatDoes Not Seem Demented’...
’s administration.

The State Department has said some 300 American citizens, legal permanent residents and their immediate family members remain in Gaza, at risk from ground fighting, airstrikes and widening starvation and thirst in the besieged territory, where Israel says the Hamas terror group plunders much of the aid that does enter.

With no known official US presence on the ground, those still left in the territory face a dangerous and sometimes impossible trip to Egypt’s border crossing out of Gaza, and a bureaucratic struggle for US, Egyptian and Israeli approval to get themselves, their parents and young children out of Gaza.

Israel says it is making an effort to avoid harm to civilians while fighting a terror group embedded within the civilian population. It has long accused Gaza-based terror groups of using Paleostinians in the Strip as human shields.

Israeli forces search house to house in West Bank city, arrest 100s 11
[GEO.TV] Israeli forces searched houses in the Nour al-Shams refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Tulkarm on Thursday, detaining hundreds of people suspected of militant activities, the military said.
Hundreds? Goodness, those Israelis are efficient!
Tulkarm, location of one of the main crossing points between the West Bank and Israel, has seen repeated raids by security forces since the start of war on October 7

According to residents, Israeli forces detained at least 120 people and demolished three houses, including one belonging to a member of the Tulkarm Brigades, an armed militant group linked to the Palestinian faction Fatah.
"Dude! That was our Clubhouse!"
"IDF forces continue to operate, alongside other Israeli security forces, in a broad divisional operation to suppress terrorism in the Nour al-Shams refugee camp in Menashe," the military said in a statement.

The Tulkarm Brigades said fighters were exchanging fire with the Israeli forces.

The military said the operation had been under way for more than 30 hours and said hundreds of individuals had been detained for questioning. Troops destroyed militant infrastructure and identified numerous weapons, it said.

The West Bank had already experienced the highest levels of unrest in decades during the 18 months preceding the Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Hamas gunmen but confrontations have risen sharply as Israeli forces have launched an invasion of Gaza.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers and settlers over the past weeks and security forces have carried out thousands of arrests, with repeated confrontations between troops and Palestinian protesters.

IDF says troops locate UNRWA daycare booby-trapped by local terrorists in West Bank

[IsraelTimes] IDF troops operating in the West Bank’s Nur Shams refugee camp located a UNRWA daycare center that was booby-trapped by local terror operatives.

The IDF says it has wrapped up a 40-hour-long raid in the camp near Tulkarem, during which troops questioned hundreds of suspects and arrested 11 of them.
Ah. That makes much more sense. Even the IDF are not so fabulous as to be able to arrest hundreds in only a few hours.
It says troops also seized many weapons and destroyed hundreds of explosive devices, including those planted in the UNRWA building.

Two soldiers were wounded, one lightly and one moderately, during the raid as a result of an explosive device hurled at them.

In another raid today, in the northern West Bank town of Sir, close to Jenin, a soldier was seriously wounded by an explosive device, the IDF adds.

Hezbollah announces strikes on military concentrations in Israel
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Detachments of the armed wing of the Shiite party Hezbollah fired at the positions of Israeli troops in the settlement of Shtula, which is located near the border with Lebanon. This is stated in a statement by the military information service of the formation, published on the Telegram channel.

It is noted that the operation was carried out in support of the Palestinian people and their resistance to Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip. It is clarified that a direct hit was achieved on a concentration of Israeli soldiers.

As Regnum reported, the leaders of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement said that they would respond and punish Israel for the murder in South Beirut of the deputy head of the Hamas politburo, Saleh al-Aroor, and two commanders of the al-Qassam Brigades movement. In its statement, Hezbollah's leadership wrote that the killing of Saleh al-Arouri and his comrades is a "serious attack on Lebanon" that poses a threat to the people and sovereignty of the country.

The US armed forces carried out strikes on three targets of the Kataib Hezbollah group and affiliated groups in Iraq, the Pentagon said in a statement. The department called this attack a response to attacks against the US military in Iraq and Syria, including the shelling of a US air base at the airport in the city of Erbil in northern Iraq (Iraqi Kurdistan).

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Jordanian air strikes in southern Syria target alleged Iran-linked drug smugglers
It’s all fun and games until someone pokes an eye out.
[IsraelTimes] Jordan launched several aerial raids inside Syria Thursday against suspected warehouses and hideouts of Iranian-backed drug smugglers, local and regional intelligence sources say.

The strikes took place in southern Syria, near the Jordanian border.

The army has stepped up a campaign against drug pushers after protracted festivities last month with dozens of infiltrators from Syria linked to pro-Iranian militias, carrying large hauls who crossed its border with weapons and explosives.

Data published by Jordan’s official mouthpiece Petra on Thursday, showed a more than three-fold increase in drug-related crimes from 2013 to 2022, "prompting an escalation in confronting drug pushers."

The targets included a rocket launch position, an observation post, and other infrastructure used by the terror group, according to the IDF.

Another Hezbollah observation post was hit by the IDF in the south Lebanon village of Maroun el-Ras, it adds.

The IDF says troops also opened fire to "remove a threat" in the area of Ayta ash-Shab, close to the Israeli border.

Hezbollah meanwhile launched several projectiles at Manara and Misgav Am in the last hour. The IDF says it is shelling the launch sites with artillery.

Islamic State claims responsibility for attacks in Iran, death toll revised down to 84
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Follow up to this story from yesterday, when it was claimed around 200 were killed.
[Regnum] The Islamic Statt claimed responsibility for two terrorist attacks in the Iranian city of Kerman, in which 103 people were killed. This was reported by Reuters, citing a statement from the organization.

"Islamic State claimed responsibility on Thursday for two bombings that killed nearly 100 people and wounded many more at a ceremony in Iran commemorating commander Qasem Soleimani, who was killed by a US drone in 2020," it said.

As reported by Regnum news agency, on January 3, in the Iranian city of Kerman, an explosion occurred on the road leading to the cemetery where General Qasem Soleimani is buried. Ambulances were sent to the scene. The media also reported a second explosion.

The number of victims of a terrorist attack near a cemetery in Iran where Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani is buried has risen to 211 people. Previously it was reported that 103 were killed and 142 were injured.

According to media reports, Red Crescent employees were among the dead.

Following the terrorist attack, the Iranian government declared January 4 a day of universal mourning.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin on January 3 expressed deep condolences to the leadership of Iran in connection with the tragic consequences of the terrorist attack in Kerman. The President's message was sent to the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Khamenei, and the country's President, Ibrahim Raisi.
The Times of Israel adds:

Wednesday’s attack in Kerman killed at least 84 people and maimed another 284. It targeted a ceremony honoring Revolutionary Guard Gen. Qassem Soleimani
, held as an icon by supporters of the country’s theocracy and viewed by the US military as a deadly foe who aided gunnies who killed American troops in Iraq.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group identified the two attackers as Omar al-Mowahed and Seif-Allah al-Mujahed. The claim said the men carried out the attacks with explosive vests. It also used disparaging language when discussing Shiites, whom the Islamic State group views as heretics.

The statement did not mention which regional arm of the bully boyz carried out the attack, which other claims in the past have had. But Aaron Y. Zelin, a senior fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said that some previous claims have not specified the regional arm, and that the latest claim came directly from an account associated with the group.

The group likely hoped to see Iran strike at Israel, widening its war on Hamas into a regional conflict that Islamic State could potentially take advantage of, Zelin said.

"This falls under the modus operandi of IS, especially since it was such a mass casualty attack," Zelin said. "They are kind of like the Joker. They want to see the world burn. They don’t care how it happens as long as it benefits them."

An earlier report by the state-run IRNA news agency, later aired by state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
, quoted an unnamed "informed source" as saying that surveillance footage from the route to the commemoration at Kerman’s Matryrs Cemetery clearly showed a male jacket wallah detonating explosives.

The official said the second blast "probably" came from another suicide bomber, though it hadn’t been determined beyond doubt.

The Iranian state media reports also gave new distances for how far apart the blasts happened, describing them as occurring 1.5 kilometers (about a mile) and 2.7 kilometers (1.68 miles) away from Soleimani’s crypt. The official said the bombers likely chose the locations because they were outside of the security perimeter for the commemoration.

An earlier corpse count of 103 was twice revised lower after officials realized that some names had been repeated on a list of victims and due to the severity of wounds suffered by some of the dead, health authorities said.

Many of the maimed were at death's door, however, so the corpse count could rise.
