Somalia intensifies operations against Al-Shabaab
[Garowe] The war against al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
bully boyz has intensified in Somalia, with the national army taking operations further southwards, targeting breeding cells of the murderous Moslems, who have continued to wreak havoc in the Horn of Africa nation.

On Saturday, state media reports, the Somali National Army activated operations within the Bay region, which has been a major stronghold for the murderous Moslems. The operation targeted Goof-gaduud Burey village, officials told the state media.

Ahmed Mohammednur alias Ahmed Dhagey, the commander of the 47th Brigade of infantry troops, said the operation also extended to rural villages including Misgale, Warta, Kormar, Durow, and more areas under the Bay region.

The areas that the SNA conducted operations and cleared were used by the terrorist bully boyz to recruit militias and collect extortion from the local people, state media reports. al-Shabaab survives on extortion, which the government is keen to eliminate.

The Somali National Army and the Local forces are conducting operations in all areas where the al-Shabaab bandidos Death Eaters are hiding, and any other location they used to extort the people. During the operation, the national army managed to flush out bully boyz who had been hiding in the villages.

s over their targeting of Red Sea shipping, the Pentagon says, targeting an underground storage site, missiles and other Houthi military capabilities.

The Pentagon details the eight new strikes in a joint statement with Britannia, as well as from Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, which supported the latest military action, the statement says.

"These precision strikes are intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities that the Houthis use to threaten global trade and the lives of innocent mariners," the statement says.

A separate statement from the UK Ministry of Defence says British aircraft used precision-guided bombs to strike multiple targets near the Sanaa airfield.

US and UK strike eight Houthi targets in Yemen

US and British forces attacked eight Yemeni Houthi targets, the countries said in a joint statement.

"The US and UK militaries, on the orders of their governments and with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, carried out additional proportionate and necessary strikes against eight Houthi targets in Yemen," the statement said.

The purpose of the strikes was said to be to reduce the Houthis' ability to attack ships. In particular, the “underground storage facility” was hit, as well as the places where the Houthi missile facilities are located.

Britain said Royal Air Force aircraft used Paveway IV precision guided bombs to hit multiple targets at two military installations in the vicinity of an airfield in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, which were used for "attacks in the Red Sea."

The United States is still assessing the damage to the Houthis from the strikes, but so far considers them to be successful, a senior Pentagon official said.

STRIKES IN YEMEN
In mid-November, the Houthis, in a show of support for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, began attacking Israeli- linked ships in the Red Sea, causing shipping traffic through Suez to plummet.

The United States, in turn, announced the launch of an operation to protect shipping together with ten other countries. Ansar Allah warned that they reserve the right to attack ships of members of this coalition. There have been several clashes at sea between the Houthis and the US military.

On January 12, the United States and Great Britain carried out airstrikes against Houthi targets in four provinces of Yemen. American President Joe Biden called the operation a response to a threat to freedom of navigation, without ruling out the continuation of military action.

The Houthis say they were able to sink a US warship in the Red Sea as a result of a retaliatory missile attack.
I don’t recall any sunk American ships, but perhaps I was distracted.

Courtesy of Skidmark, the Daily Mail has photos and video of loaded airplanes on the aircraft carrier, and maps, adding:
U.S. Central Command said the eight targets 'included missile systems and launchers, air defense systems, radars, and deeply buried weapons storage facilities.' The sites are believed to be in the capital, Sanaa; at a nearby military base, al-Dailami; near the highland city of Taizz; and in Bayda province.

The strikes were launched from air, surface and subsurface platforms as part of 'Operation Poseidon Archer'. They included Tomahawk land attack missiles as well as manned aircraft from the U.S.S. Eisenhower, the official told CBS.

In the past, the United States and British forces have mainly hit Houthi missiles and radar sites. The January 11 attacks targeted just under 30 locations with 150 different weapons, CBS reported. A U.S. official previously told CBS News that the initial strikes, on January 11, destroyed enough of the Houthis' air defense capabilities to allow surveillance of their territory, and make it possible to see what the Houthis are preparing.

UAV attack targets a military base housing U.S. troops in western Iraq: source
[Shafaq News] An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) has targeted the vicinity of a military base housing U.S. troops in western Iraq, a security source reported on Monday.

The source told Shafaq News Agency that the UAV landed in the vicinity of the Ain al-Asad airbase in al-Anbar governorate but did not disclose whether it left casualties or damages.

U.S. personnel suffered minor injuries and a member of Iraq's security forces was maimed in an attack on Iraq's Ain al-Asad air base on Saturday. The U.S. military's Central Command said in a statement that the base was hit by multiple ballistic missiles and rockets fired by Iranian-backed turbans from inside Iraq. The statement did not confirm the extent of any U.S. injuries but said personnel were being evaluated for traumatic brain injury.

The U.S. military's assessment was more severe than initial accounts from security sources in Iraq, who, along with an Iraqi government source, had only reported rocket fire against the base.

Offering a sense of the scale of the attack, Central Command said most of the missiles were intercepted though others hit the base.

"Damage assessments are ongoing," Central Command said, adding the attack took place at 1830 in Iraq (1530 GMT)...At least one Iraqi service member was maimed."

Since the Israel-Hamas

war began in October, the U.S. military has come under attack at least 58 times in Iraq and another 83 times in Syria by Iran-backed turbans, usually with a mix of rockets and one-way attack drones.

The turbans are seeking to impose a cost on the United States for its support of Israel against Iran-backed Paleostinian turban group Hamas.

IDF says 21 soldiers killed in the worse incident in Gaza since October 7
[Ynet] Hamas terrorists fire anti-tank missile at buildings rigged with explosives near border with Israel ahead of demolition in efforts to clear area from threats to Israeli communities; fire triggers mass explosion, killing troops

At least 21 soldiers were killed in the Gaza Strip on Monday when they were preparing to blow up buildings near the border to prevent their repeated use by Hamas to fire into Israeli communities.

The tragic incident took place while a cluster of buildings some 600 meters (650 yards) from the border fence on the Gaza side, designated for demolition, were rigged with explosives ahead of demolition in an effort to create a buffer zone cleared of any structures or people who could pose a threat.

An initial probe reveals the explosion occurred when a combined force of infantry, armored and engineering troops worked to prepare a secure area in the center of the Gaza Strip in advance of the end of the war.

"Around 4 in the afternoon, at least one terrorist, presumably emerging from a tunnel and hence undetected, fired an anti-tank missile at a tank securing the operation, resulting in the death of two soldiers in the tank and injuries to two others. Meanwhile, an RPG was launched by the cell toward a complex of two adjoining houses occupied by dozens of soldiers as part of the operation," the IDF said. "Initial estimates suggest that the anti-tank fire in the building triggered several explosives planted by the force inside, causing the complete collapse of the dual-building complex due to the massive blast.

"The IDF systematically demolishes Palestinian buildings that enable surveillance and firing capabilities toward Israel, leading to the destruction of hundreds of buildings to date. The 8208th Reserve Battalion has been operationally engaged in recent weeks around the central Gaza Strip, working on defense tasks and reshaping the border area on both sides of the fence. The IDF is set to appoint a special investigative team to examine the circumstances of the incident to prevent its recurrence. The IDF has used hundreds of tons of explosives and mines in the war to demolish tunnels, Hamas bases, terrorists' homes and complex targets throughout the Gaza Strip," the military said in a statement.

The army has so far identified 10 reservists who were killed in the attack: Sgt. Maj. (res.) Matan Lazar, 32, of the 261st Brigade’s 6261st Battalion, from Haifa, Sgt. First Class (res.) Hadar Kapeluk, 23, a squad commander in the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Mevo Beitar, Sgt. Maj. (res.) Sergey Gontmaher, 37, of the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Ramat Gan, Sgt. First Class (res.) Elkana Yehuda Sfez, 25, of the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Kiryat Arba, Sgt. First Class (res.) Yoval Lopez, 27, of the 205th Brigade’s 9206th Battalion, from Alon Shvut, Master Sgt. (res.) Yoav Levi, 29, of the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Yehud-Monosson, Sgt. First Class (res.) Nicholas Berger, 22, of the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Jerusalem, Sgt. First Class (res.) Cydrick Garin, 23, of the 261st Brigade’s 8208th Battalion, from Tel Aviv, Sgt. Maj. (res.) Rafael Elias Mosheyoff, 33, of the 261st Brigade’s 6261st Battalion, from Pardes Hanna-Karkur, Sgt. Maj. (res.) Barak Haim Ben Valid, 33, a squad commander in the 261st Brigade’s 6261st Battalion, from Rishon Lezion.

"This is the war that would determine the future of Israel for decades to come," Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said. "The death of the soldiers commands that we achieve our objectives in the war."

Day 108: Fierce battles in Gaza as troops push deeper into Khan Younis; 3 IDF officers killed

’s Khan Younis would intensify, fierce battles were waged Monday as the IDF launched a new large offensive on the western party of the city, in which at least three IDF officers were killed.

Four brigades, led by the 98th Division, took part in the offensive, which began Sunday with a series of Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...

...the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
sites in the area. The IDF is aiming to dismantle Hamas’s military framework in the Khan Younis area with the new push.

A front man for the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry told Rooters Monday afternoon that at least 50 Paleostinians were killed and 100 maimed in Israeli airstrikes on Khan Younis since Sunday night.

The IDF said Monday evening that some 50 Hamas operatives, including several commanders, had been killed throughout the day by ground troops of the Commando, Paratroopers, Givati and 7th brigades.

Three officers in the Paratroopers Brigade were killed and another seriously maimed in the offensive, the military announced separately. They were killed by an RPG fired at a building they were in, military sources said.

They were named as Maj. David Nati Alfasi, 27, a deputy battalion commander from Beersheba; Maj. Ilay Levy, 24, a company commander from Tel Aviv; and Cpt. Eyal Mevorach Twito, 22, a platoon commander from Beit Gamliel.

The Gaza health ministry front man, Ashraf al-Qidra, claimed in a statement to Rooters that IDF troops had stormed al-Khair Hospital and were arresting medical staff. The IDF did not immediately respond to the claim. It has repeatedly accused Hamas of operating within hospitals and shown evidence that it used medical facilities to hide Israeli hostages.

According to media reports, Hamas’s leaders in Gaza are believed to be hiding in tunnels in Khan Younis, likely surrounded by hostages.

The Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy claimed that tanks had also surrounded another Khan Younis hospital, al-Amal, which serves as the rescue agency’s headquarters.

The Khan Younis area, unlike most parts of northern Gaza, has many civilians sheltering. The IDF said in a statement that is aware of the sites where civilians are sheltering, along with hospitals, and will seek to avoid harming them amid its operations.

The military said its soldiers had encircled the Khan Younis refugee camp (historically named, with no relation to war refugees), and were beginning to maneuver into the camp, where it said several Hamas sites are located. The offensive is likely to last several more days, and will include raids of key Hamas strongholds, outposts and infrastructure in the area.

As fighting raged, many Paleostinians once again were displaced, with thousands heading south to Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah, where the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are now believed to be sheltering in public buildings and tent camps.

Lines of cars and donkey carts piled high with belongings pushed south throughout Monday as Gazooks sought to flee the battles, Rooters reported.

Israeli officials have continuously vowed to continue fighting in Gaza until the Hamas terror group is toppled, though military figures have indicated that the IDF is moving to a phase of lower-intensity fighting in the Strip overall. Israel launched its war against Hamas in Gaza after thousands of the group’s murderous Moslems stormed across the border on October 7, massacring around 1,200 people and taking another 253 hostage.

The Hamas-run health ministry said Monday that 25,295 Gazooks had been killed so far in the war, an unverified figure that includes Hamas operatives as well as those killed in failed rocket launches. The IDF says it has killed more than 9,000 Hamas members. As of Monday, 198 Israeli soldiers had been killed in the Gaza ground offensive.

The IDF announced Monday that since the beginning of the war, 12,000 trucks with 1,052 tons of medical equipment have entered the Gaza Strip. In a statement, the IDF said it has facilitated the delivery of hundreds of thousands of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
, tuberculosis, rotavirus and MMR vaccines, among other aid.

The IDF said it had also coordinated with Egypt the evacuation of hundreds of maimed Paleostinians from Gaza, who were taken to the United Arab Emirates, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, and Egypt for treatment.

Mopping up: In largely conquered northern Gaza, troops comb rubble in hunt for rocket launchers
[IsraelTimes] Military begins ’methodical’ process of locating, destroying terror group’s remaining capabilities, amid sporadic festivities with small cells of operatives.

Strip, where the Israel Defense Forces said it has defeated Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
’s "military framework" and has established "operational control," its war against the terror group is still far from over.

Between sporadic festivities with remaining Hamas operatives, Israeli forces are carrying out mop-up operations in the area to locate every last rocket launcher, as well as any other Hamas infrastructure that could pose a threat to Israeli civilians and troops, according to Israel Defense Forces officers.

Speaking to The Times of Israel and other news hounds in Gaza City’s Tuffah neighborhood on Sunday, the lieutenant colonel commanding the 401st Armored Brigade’s 52nd Battalion said the pervading feeling in Israeli society that the war was slowing is incorrect.

"The war has definitely not ended for us," said Daniel, whose last name was withheld for security reasons.

As an armored personnel carrier took us to the site of a now-uncovered rocket launcher, Daniel said the past week had seen his battalion undertake the "methodical" destruction of Hamas’s remaining weapons in the area.

"We receive an area where there is intelligence on rockets that were fired or are intended to be launched at Israel, and we arrive at the area, capture it, and destroy these capabilities," he said.

Despite the army having dismantled Hamas’s local military organization, according to the IDF, forces were still encountering small Hamas cells in their area of operations, Daniel said.

"We respect the enemy, but it doesn’t have anything on us," he said, noting an incident a night earlier where a Hamas operative fired an RPG from a tunnel shaft at a tank, causing no casualties. The soldiers returned fire, killing the operative and other two members of the Hamas cell.

The tunnel from which the operative emerged was destroyed during our visit to the area.

"I don’t think it’s an all organized like we saw at the start [of the ground offensive]," Daniel said.

As Hamas’s capabilities have been degraded by Israel’s offensive, once interminable rocket fire from Gaza has become more sporadic, with most days seeing barely a handful of projectiles fired at communities near the border, though there are still occasional large volleys deep into Israel.

During the visit, a projectile launched from deeper within Gaza City was intercepted above us by the Iron Dome air defense system.

Locating the hundreds or even thousands of remaining rocket launchers and tunnels is a slow process, which the IDF says it expects to take many more months.

"There are a lot [of rocket launchers and tunnels], but any area where there is a tunnel or a rocket, we will get there. It doesn’t matter how long it will take, we have a mission to defeat Hamas and its capabilities, however long it will take," Daniel said.

"Any rocket that is fired at Israel is a threat, and we are here to prevent this. It will take a long time. You can’t stop the rocket fire immediately," he continued. "These are capabilities Hamas built over a long time, but I hope we can destroy them as quickly as possible."

The searches are taking place across northern Gaza, with other units also taking part in the efforts.

On Sunday alone, the 52nd Battalion located eight long-range rocket launchers in its area of operations, the IDF said.

The well-hidden launchers, which were embedded in the ground and covered by an olive grove, had already been used to fire at Israel, according to the army. The IDF said it uncovered them with armored bulldozers, following intelligence information on the launch site.

Beneath the launchers was a tunnel where turbans are thought to have hidden while setting off the launchers during the recent attack.

"The fighting now is piece by piece, house by house," said Col. Nissim Hazan, a senior officer in the 401st Brigade, who was passing by to inspect the recently uncovered rocket launchers.

"Any house where we didn’t find weapons is suspicious; every other home here is full of firearms, and explosives — I’m not exaggerating," Hazan said.

"We are in a different stage of fighting now. If before we maneuvered deep into Gaza... now we need to operate more thoroughly, and as you can see, there isn’t a spot we won’t touch," he said, pointing to the destruction around us caused by strikes and the treads of the IDF’s armored vehicles.

During our tour of the site, there were persistent explosions from tank shelling and sounds of gunfire as troops worked to clear nearby buildings of threats before searching for further rocket launchers.

Asked if he wished to return home, Daniel said, "Waking up each morning and finding that lone launcher, we have done something good for the people of Israel."

"I think this beats everything," he said. "Even the desire to return home."

Police arrest 2 East Jerusalem men said to be planning ISIS-linked attack near Knesset
[IsraelTimes] Authorities say pair purchased chemicals to make bombs for attacks, in second such case this month

For the second time this month, police announced on Monday the arrest of two East Jerusalem residents accused of supporting the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
terror group, who were allegedly planning to carry out bombing attacks near the Knesset in the capital.

The pair purchased chemicals including hydrogen peroxide to make bombs that were to be used to kill civilians and security forces in Jerusalem, the Israel Police and the Shin Bet security service said in a joint statement.

An investigation was launched after the Shin Bet uncovered the suspects’ plans and they were arrested before they could carry out any attacks.

According to the charge sheet presented at the Jerusalem District Court, the suspects regularly consumed ISIS materials online, such as videos on religious sermons and executions, including beheadings.

Police said that Mustafa Abd al-Nabi and Ahmad Natasha, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on December 26 at their homes in Ras al-Amud in East Jerusalem. During a search, security forces found chemicals that were believed to be intended for bomb-making, along with a notebook with formulas for preparing bombs and ISIS materials.

Prosecutors added that Mustafa had planned to carry out a terrorist attack by detonating a truck bomb filled with gas tanks near the Knesset, with the aim of murdering Jews and causing extensive damage.

The charge sheet also said that in October Natasha hung flags of the Hamas
...the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
terror group in Ras al-Amud for about a week.

The statement noted that over the past year, security forces had foiled dozens of attacks and attempted attacks in the Jerusalem area.

"The Israel Police and the Shin Bet will continue to work with all security forces to counter terrorism and arrest terrorists, with the aim of protecting the citizens of Israel," the statement said.

Earlier in January, two East Jerusalem residents also linked to ISIS were arrested under similar circumstances, and were to be indicted for planning to carry out bombing attacks in the capital.

The pair, residents of the Jabel Mukaber neighborhood in East Jerusalem, allegedly intended to use bombs against security forces, according to police.

In October, three Arab Israelis allegedly affiliated with ISIS were arrested on suspicion of planning to carry out "terror activities," the Shin Bet said. They were residents of Sakhnin and Arraba in the north of the country.

Last year, ISIS called for Arabs in Israel to carry out attacks throughout the country.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
IDF says it carried out airstrikes against series of Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it carried out Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against a series of Hezbollah targets in five areas of southern Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
today.

Sites hit by fighter jets in the Maroun al-Ras area included a military building where Hezbollah operatives were gathered, the IDF says.

It says secondary blasts could be seen following the strike, indicating the building was used to store weapons.

The IDF says it also hit three observation posts and another military building in Marwahin, Chihine, Taybeh, and Tayr Harfa.

IDF says it carried out further retaliatory strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon

[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it carried out further strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, in response to attacks on northern Israel.

The sites hit by fighter jets in Blida and Aitaroun included observation posts and other infrastructure belonging to the terror group.

Earlier, the IDF says it hit another Hezbollah position in Majdal Selm.
