Al-Shabaab militants killed in US military strike
[AFRICANEWS] The United States military confirmed Tuesday that it conducted airstrikes in Somalia over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of three Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Shabab militants.

The U.S. Africa Command, based in Stuttgart, Germany, stated that the strikes were carried out at the request of Somalia's government in a remote area approximately 35 kilometres northeast of the port city of Kismayo on Sunday.

The statement did not disclose the identities of the targeted individuals, and no civilian casualties were reported.

Al-Shabab, the largest and most active al-Qaida network globally, has consistently posed a threat to U.S. forces and Washington's security interests. The militant group has been engaged in a 16-year insurgency against the Western-backed Somali government, supported by African Union peacekeeping troops.

Al-Shabab has also carried out significant extremist attacks in neighboring Kenya, targeting AU peacekeeping forces that include Kenyan troops.

Heavy fighting erupts between Sudanese army, RFS in West Kordofan's Babanusa
[SUDANTRIBUNE] Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army forces repelled an initial attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the army command in Babanusa of West Kordofan state, on Monday night. The festivities that ensued resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians.

After days of tension and anticipation, fierce festivities erupted late Monday night in the eastern neighbourhoods of the city. Eyewitnesses reported that the RSF infiltrated Babanusa and clashed with army troops in the al-Salam, al-Wahda, and al-Tarbiyah neighbourhoods.

Army artillery and warplanes responded with heavy bombardments targeting RSF positions in the southern, northern, and eastern outskirts of the town.

Video clips circulated on social media showed army soldiers celebrating the downing of an RSF drone that had targeted the headquarters of the 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa.

The violence sparked a wave of displacement among Babanusa’s residents, with the main market and the city hospital closing their doors.

The RSF’s second commander, Abdel Rahim Dagalo, was seen in a video clip and photographs released by the group on the outskirts of Babanusa with the attacking forces, indicating his unwavering resolve to take control of the region despite the opposition of local leaders and the potential risks to civilians.

The RSF’s ambition to seize West Kordofan, a region rich in natural resources such as oil and gold, is the driving force behind these festivities. Civilians, however, have borne the brunt of the violence, with eyewitnesses reporting dozens of casualties among the city’s inhabitants.

Claims Ten Civilians Killed, Over 200 Houses Burned In Series of Attacks Against Christian Villages In Northern Mozambique
[MEMRI.ORG] The following report is now a complimentary offering from MEMRI's Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM).

Issue 425 of the Islamic State's (ISIS) weekly Al-Naba', published on January 12, 2024, contained a one-page article detailing the group's operations against Christian civilians in Mozambique over the past two weeks. According to the article, ISIS operatives killed 10 Christians and burned over 200 houses in eight operations centered on Mozambique's northern Cabo Delgado province. All the operations were conducted as part of the "And Kill Them Wherever You Find Them" campaign, launched on January 4 in an audio message by the group's spokesperson, Abu Hudhayfah Al-Ansari. This report is based on the article.

SIX CIVILIANS KILLED, OVER 170 HOUSES BURNED IN MOCIMBOA DA PRAIA DISTRICT
On January 3, ISIS operatives assaulted the village of Ntotoe near Mocimboa da Praia, killing three civilians and burning a church and over 60 houses, before returning to their positions unharmed. On January 7, the Islamic State Mozambique Province (ISMP) published five photos documenting the attack, showing corpses and property in flames.

On January 5, ISIS operatives attacked the village of Chimbanga in the Mocimboa da Praia district, killing three civilians and burning over 70 houses and three motorcycles.

On January 7, ISIS operatives machine-gunned civilians in a village in the same district, causing them to flee and burning nearly 40 houses.

TWO CIVILIANS KILLED, OVER 66 HOUSES BURNED IN MACOMIA DISTRICT
On January 2, ISIS operatives machine-gunned two ships of the Mozambican army near an island in the Macomia district, wounding at least one soldier and causing damage to the ships. Al-Naba' attached an "exclusive" photo from the attack, documenting several ISIS fighters on the coast.

On January 4, ISIS operatives machine-gunned civilians in the village of Chai in the Macomia district, killing one and causing the others to flee. The operatives burned six houses before returning to their positions unharmed.

On January 7, ISIS operatives machine-gunned a concentration of the Mozambican army in a village in the Macomia district, causing the forces to flee, seizing "various weapons" and burning the position, before setting fire to more than 50 houses.

On January 9, ISIS operatives machine-gunned civilians in the village of Litamanda, in the Macomia district, killing one and causing the others to flee. The operatives burned ten houses, before returning to their positions unharmed. Al-Naba' attached an "exclusive" photo from the attack, showing an ISIS fighter shooting.

TWO CIVILIANS KILLED IN MUIDUMBE DISTRICT
On January 5, ISIS operatives attacked the village of Chinda in the Muidumbe district, killing two civilians.

Issue 421 of Al-Naba', released on December 14, 2023, published a graphically violent "exclusive" documenting a December 6 attack on a military position in Nguri, Cabo Delgado. On December 7, the group claimed that on December 6 its operatives killed five soldiers in an attack on a concentration of the "Crusader" Mozambican army in the village of Negure, Muidumbe district, while on December 8 it claimed beheading an "unbeliever Christian" nearby.

US and six allied nations launch new round of joint strikes against Houthis
More on this story from yesterday.
[AFRICANEWS] The U.S. and British militaries bombed multiple targets in eight locations used by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen on Monday night (Jan. 22).

According to officials, the U.S. and U.K. used warship- and submarine-launched Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets to take out Houthi missile storage sites, drones and launchers.

Al-Masirah, a Houthi-run satellite news channel, said there were raids on three areas of Sanaa, the capital: al-Dailami Air Base just north of the capital, Sarif, northeast of the city center, and al-Hafa, which is south of Sanaa.

Britain’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that four Royal Air Force Typhoon jets struck “multiple targets at two military sites in the vicinity of Sanaa airfield” with precision-guided bombs. The strikes, said Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, were “aimed at degrading Houthi capabilities” and would “deal another blow to their limited stockpiles and ability to threaten global trade.”

The latest barrage of allied attacks marks the eighth time the U.S. has conducted strikes on Houthi sites since Jan. 12. And it follows an almost-daily assault on Houthi missile launchers by U.S. fighter jets and ship-based Tomahawks over the past week. The rapid response missions, which officials said go after launchers that are armed and ready to fire, demonstrate the military’s increasing ability to watch, detect and strike militant activities in Yemen.

In a joint statement, The US, the UK, Australia, Bahrein, Canada and the Netherlands said they aimed to de-escalate tensions and restore stability in the Red Sea.

The Biden administration has also put the Houthis back on its list of specially designated global terrorists.

For months, the Houthis have attacked ships in the region’s waterways that they claim are either linked to Israel or heading to Israeli ports. They say their attacks aim to end the Israeli air-and-ground offensive in the Gaza Strip that was triggered by the Palestinian Militant group Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel.

The joint operation comes about 10 days after U.S. and British warships and fighter jets struck more than 60 targets.

The Houthis, meanwhile, have made it clear that they have no intention of scaling back their assault. In the wake of the first U.S. and British joint attack, Hussein al-Ezzi, a Houthi official in their Foreign Ministry, said, “America and Britain will undoubtedly have to prepare to pay a heavy price and bear all the dire consequences of this blatant aggression.”

25 missile launchers and over 20 missiles destroyed, says Pentagon
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] US troops have destroyed or damaged more than 25 launchers and over 20 missiles in Yemen since January 11. Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder announced this on Tuesday, January 23.

“I can tell you that since January 11, we estimate that we have destroyed or damaged over,” he said during a briefing for reporters.

Ryder added that effective strikes were also carried out against unmanned aerial vehicle operating areas, coastal radars and aerial reconnaissance assets.

As Regnum reported, on January 23, the Associated Press reported that the United States and Great Britain, with the support of Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and Bahrain, launched new attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen. According to the source, the military used Tomahawk missiles and fighter jets to destroy launchers and warehouses with missiles, drones and ammunition.

Let us recall that the United States and Great Britain, with the support of their allies, began a military operation in Yemen on the night of January 12. The first series of airstrikes was carried out on the outskirts of the port city of Hodeidah, located in the west of the country. At least five airstrikes hit Yemeni Houthi targets.

The head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharova, as well as the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, condemned the strikes of the US-British coalition on Yemen.

US and UK launch new strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen

The United States and Great Britain carried out new strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen, the Associated Press reported on January 23.

AR: US and British military carried out new strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen
“US and British troops carried out strikes on multiple targets in eight locations in Yemen on Monday evening,” the material says.

The US and UK used Tomahawk missiles launched from warships and submarines, as well as fighter jets, to destroy Houthi missile depots, drones and launch sites. A number of officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands contributed to the mission, including through intelligence and surveillance.

The UK Ministry of Defense confirmed that four British aircraft hit multiple targets at two military installations in the vicinity of Sanaa airfield with precision bombs. The department called the weakening of the Houthis the goals of the strikes.

One senior U.S. military official told reporters the strikes dropped 25 to 30 munitions and hit several targets.

As Regnum reported, on the night of January 12, the United States and Great Britain launched military strikes against multiple targets of the Houthis Ansar Allah in Yemen. Later, an American official, on condition of anonymity, told Al Jazeera that the strikes carried out by the United States and Great Britain against the Houthis had achieved their goals. The US Air Force press service reported that the military carried out strikes on 60 targets at 16 targets of the Yemeni Houthis. The US Air Force used more than a hundred precision-guided munitions of various types to carry out the strikes.

On January 18, the United States confirmed a new attack on Houthi missile launchers in Yemen. Thus, the United States attacked 14 missile launchers of the Yemeni Houthis.

Following the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis opposed Israeli actions, threatened strikes and said they would not allow associated ships to pass through the waters of the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait until the operation in the Palestinian enclave ceases. According to US Central Command estimates, the Houthis have attacked more than 20 ships and civilian vessels in the Red Sea since mid-November.

At the same time, nothing threatens Russian and Chinese ships in the Red Sea, noted Mohammed al-Bahiti, a member of the Ansar Allah Politburo (Houthis)

Moment Russian military plane 'carrying 65 Ukrainian POWs' crashes
[Mail link along with NYP Story] A Russian Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane crashed near the Ukrainian border on Wednesday, and state news agency RIA quoted the defense ministry as saying it was carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war to be exchanged for Russian captives.

The plane was carrying 74 people, including six crew and three guards when it crashed, RIA cited the defense ministry as saying.

There was no immediate information on the cause.

Andrei Kartapolov, a lawmaker in Russia’s parliament and a retired general, said during a parliamentary session that the plane had been shot down by three missiles.

He did not say what the source of his information was.

Reuters could not immediately verify details of who was on board, but Russia and Ukraine regularly swap prisoners of war.

Ukraine’s defense ministry and air force did not immediately reply to requests for comment.

#1  17 of the "POWs" were transferred last year to Ukraine so the list is suspect. Ukraine has confirmed it shot the plane down as it had "ammunition".

Still a bit of a muddled mess.

#2  Also appears that the aircraft was flying away from Belgorod towards the northeast when it decided to come down.

Also odd that they'd transport prisoners in a very valuable strategic heavy airlift vehicle. Typically this would be by bus or train, even from very remote areas.

The prisoner transfer was supposedly located roughly 100km to the west of Belgorod.

Also, by releasing names within 30 minutes of the crash (a new record for the Russian MOD in information dissemination), it allows for them to exonerate themselves for military prisoners tortured and killed while in their custody. Nazis tried the same during the early WWII years.

Also, no media or independent photos were permitted at the crash site and the area was locked down by the military. If the plane did carry prisoners, they'd want the 'evidence' shown on the front page of every media outlet in the world.

Spain remands Syrian refugee suspected of planning jihadist attack on his high school
[IsraelTimes] Court says ’tremendously homophobic and antisemitic’ 17-year-old pledged allegiance to Islamic State

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
, learned how to make bombs

Spain’s high court on Tuesday ordered that a 17-year-old student suspected of having links to the Islamic State group and of planning to attack his high school be held on remand at a youth detention center for at least six months.

The student, a Syrian national, was arrested early on Monday in the southern town of Montellano near Seville, and has been charged with belonging to a terrorist organization and possessing explosives.

Jose Luis de Castro, the judge in charge of the court’s section for minors, said in his order that "these felonies of enormous gravity" justified the pre-trial detention.

There is "solid evidence" that the suspect obtained various substances used for homemade explosives, as well as manuals for their manufacture, the judge said, adding that the suspect had also pledged loyalty to Islamic State on social media.

The suspect had been living with his mother and 10-year-old sister in Montellano, a town of 7,000 people, for two years. All three have refugee status, according to Montellano’s mayor, Curro Gil.

The judge said the youth was "highly radicalized, obsessed with all things military, has camouflage clothing and is tremendously homophobic and antisemitic."

A police spokesperson declined to comment on the case, citing the fact that the suspect was underage.

Spanish newspaper El Mundo on Tuesday cited police sources saying they were certain an attack on the suspect’s high school was imminent, which prompted his arrest.

While already under police surveillance on Sunday, the suspect went to an empty field where detonations were heard, the judge said, suggesting he was testing explosives.

According to state news agency EFE, several parents decided to keep their children from the school on Monday after the suspect sent a message to some of his classmates via WhatsApp reading: "Tomorrow’s the big day."

IDF says troops encircled Khan Younis, are pushing deeper into Hamas stronghold
[IsraelTimes] Close-quarters battles held with terror operatives in south of Paleostinian enclave as thousands of residents flee city

As it suffered the most single-day fatalities of its ground offensive in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said it completed the encirclement of southern Gaza’s Khan Younis overnight Monday, killing dozens of Hamas
...a regional Iranian catspaw,...
operatives in the process.

The encirclement marked a major advance, but it was unclear how much closer it would bring Israel to defeating Hamas or freeing the hostages held in Gaza — two central war aims that have proved increasingly elusive — as talks on a protracted ceasefire appeared to be gathering pace.

According to media reports, Hamas’s leaders in Gaza are believed to be hiding in tunnels in Khan Younis, likely surrounded by hostages.

The 98th Division led a major push into the western part of Khan Younis over the past day, with the 7th Armored Brigade and Givati Brigade encircling the city, the military said.

The division’s Commando Brigade has carried out operations deeper into Khan Younis, which the IDF says is a major Hamas stronghold.

Over the past day, the IDF said ground forces engaged in close-quarters battles with Hamas operatives and Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s were carried out, killing "many dozens of terrorists."

The military said troops killed Hamas fighters wielding RPGs just dozens of meters from the soldiers, button men who had opened fire, and operatives booby-trapping buildings and roads with bombs.

Troops operating in the Khan Younis area also uncovered rockets prepared for launch, tunnels, and other weapons, the IDF added.

As Israeli forces operate deep within Khan Younis, the IDF announced that reservists of Gaza Division’s Southern Brigade recently wrapped up their offensive and defensive operations on the outskirts of the southern Gaza city.

Troops of the 630th Reserve Battalion operated with combat engineers to locate and destroy Hamas "attack tunnel" shafts and other underground infrastructure on the outskirts of northern Khan Younis, the IDF said.

Also as part of the Southern Brigade’s operations, reservists of the 261st Brigade worked to destroy Hamas infrastructure in the border area, the IDF said.

Israel launched its offensive against Hamas in Gaza after thousands of the group’s forces of Evil stormed across the border on October 7, massacring some 1,200 people and taking another 253 as hostages into the Strip.

Israel says it has killed thousands of forces of Evil and has largely defeated Hamas in northern Gaza in operations that caused widespread destruction to that part of the territory, including Gaza City. In recent weeks the offensive has focused on Khan Younis and refugee camps in central Gaza, including Maghazi, that date back to the 1948 war surrounding Israel’s creation.

The Khan Younis area, unlike most parts of northern Gaza, has many civilians sheltering. The IDF said in a statement that it is aware of the sites where civilians are sheltering, along with hospitals, and was seeking to avoid harming them amid its operations. It accuses Hamas of using the civilian population as human shields by embedding itself in residential and civilian areas.

Raed al-Nems, a spokesperson for the Paleostine Red Islamic Thingy rescue service, said there was heavy fighting around the city’s al-Amal Hospital. He said a shell had hit the fourth floor, killing one person and wounding 10 others. Medical teams were unable to enter or exit the hospital, and a territory-wide communication outage had further complicated rescue efforts, he said.

As fighting raged, many Paleostinians once again were displaced, with thousands heading south to Gaza’s southernmost city of Rafah, where the majority of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are now believed to be sheltering in public buildings and tent camps.

Meanwhile,
...back at the alley, Bugs Moroni was holding Slats from behind while his brother Greasy Thumb was pounding his face into paste ...
the IDF suffered its heaviest losses since the start of the ground operation with 24 soldiers killed over the previous day, 21 of them in one incident as two buildings collapsed when demolition charges planted by the military were triggered by an RPG fired at troops.

The Israeli casualties, announced on Tuesday, were celebrated as a victory by Paleostinians.

"The resistance said it is going to make Gaza a graveyard for the occupation, and this is what is happening," said Abu Khaled, sheltering in a school in Deir al-Balah, one of the few areas yet to be stormed by Israeli forces. "The more they stay, the more we will suffer for sure, but the more they will suffer too."

Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
, head of the political office of Hamas in exile, said the Israeli losses were proof that the armed wing of Hamas was only getting stronger, and "the American and Israeli goal to get rid of Hamas or weaken it is not possible."

"We call on the American administration to stop this pointless policy and stop betting on the possibility of weakening or finishing Hamas," he said by phone to Rooters from an undisclosed location.

Israelis spoke of the losses as a necessary sacrifice in the war against Hamas.

"You know, it’s our sons, it’s our brothers, it’s terrible — but we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do so that October 7 doesn’t happen again," said Blina Rhodes on the street in Jerusalem. "You have to get rid of Hamas and make Gaza safe for us. Otherwise, we have no place to live."

The Hamas-run health ministry said Monday that 25,295 Gazooks had been killed so far in the war, an unverified figure that includes Hamas operatives as well as those killed in failed Paleostinian rocket launches. The IDF says it has killed more than 9,000 Hamas members. Since the start of the ground operation, 219 IDF soldiers have been killed in the fighting.

Troops of the 7th Armored Brigade and elite Yahalom combat engineering team operated in what the IDF says is a "strategic and central" Hamas stronghold in Khan Younis, in a residential area and near two schools.

As troops raided the area, the IDF says Hamas operatives opened fire and launched RPGs, as well as detonated the entrances to several tunnels in the area, in a bid to prevent troops from entering.

The IDF says it waged several battles against "many" Hamas button men in the area, killing them in close-quarters combat, machine gun fire, tank shelling and Arclight airstrike

The 7th Brigade and Yahalom soldiers located several tunnel entrances in the area, which the IDF says led to a tunnel network some 1.5 kilometers in length, where Hamas hid an underground rocket manufacturing plant, the largest in southern Gaza.

After being investigated, the tunnel shaft was destroyed by the combat engineers.

Sweden demands consular services for citizen detained in Iran
[Rudaw] Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom on Monday said that his country has called the chargé d’affaires of Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. Swedish citizen in Iran, as well as to express worries about the Erbil attack.

"The chargé [d’affaires] was summoned to the foreign ministry to be told that we want to have consular access to a Swedish citizen, and many Swedish citizens, who have been taken into custody by Iranian authorities," Billstrom told Rudaw’s Znar Shino ahead of a European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
ministers meeting in Brussels.

"We deem that it is necessary to call for such access because they are Swedish citizens," he added.

The identity of the Swedish prisoner in question is yet to be confirmed.

In December, Iran’s judiciary started the trial of Johan Floredus, a Swedish diplomat who is accused of "corruption on earth, extensive measures against the security of the country, and extensive cooperation with" Israel, with the prosecutor calling for the death penalty
.

The 33-year-old Swedish diplomat has been in an Iranian prison for over 600 days.

Floderus was arrested on April 17, 2022 upon arrival at Tehran’s airport to Iran and is being held at the country’s notorious Evin prison.

In September, the European Union confirmed that Floderus had been held in an Iranian prison for over 500 days. A week later, Iran’s judiciary announced that he had been arrested for "committing crimes in the territory of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran."

The European Union’s top foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in December "there are absolutely no grounds for keeping Johan Floderus in detention," and called for his immediate release.

In May, Iran carried out the death sentence
...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead...
of dual Swedish-Iranian dissident Habib Farajollah Chaab. He had been charged with "terrorism" and "spreading corruption on earth."

In its annual world report on global rights conditions for the year 2022 published in January 2023, Human Rights Watch accused Iran of conducting unfair trials and obtaining confessions under duress, as well as targeting dual and foreign nationals with vague accusations such as "cooperating with a hostile state."

"Iranian courts, and particularly revolutionary courts, regularly fall far short of providing fair trials, and use confessions likely obtained under torture as evidence in court," the report read.

Iran executes another Amini protester
[Rudaw] Iranian authorities on Tuesday executed Mohammed Ghobadlou, who was arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests sparked by Zhina (Mahsa) Amini's death while in police custody.

Ghobadlou, 23, was accused by the Iranian judiciary of deliberately running over a group of coppers on cycle of violences with a car, killing one and injuring five others. He was accordingly convicted of charges of "corruption on Earth" and sentenced to death by Tehran’s revolutionary court.

The Iranian judiciary’s Mizan Online claimed that Ghobadlou had confessed to driving the car "with the intention of murder."

The execution was carried out at Tuesday dawn in a Karaj prison, despite the protester’s reported struggles with mental health issues, more specifically bipolar disorder, which resulted in strong criticism and condemnation from local and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
monitors.

"Considering the prisoner’s mental status, the carrying out of the penalty is an inhumane act and a clear violation of international human rights standards," said Hengaw Human Rights Organization.

Amnesia Amnesty International called on the judiciary to stop the execution hours before it was carried out, noting that "the case of this young man with a disability arrested in connection with the 2022 protests has been marred by torture and secretive proceedings."

The court’s forensic psychiatrist had denied that Ghobadlou struggled with mental health issues at the time of the crime.

"Symptoms and evidence of a major psychiatric disorder that causes a lack of discernment and control of the will are not observed in the accused at the time of the crime," said Mizan citing the psychiatrist.

Twenty-two-year-old Kurdish woman Amini died while in police custody on September 16, 2022 after she was arrested for allegedly wearing a lax hijab. Her death sparked Iran’s longest protest movement in the past four decades. Protesters chanting "Jin Jiyan Azadi" (Woman Life Freedom) called for greater freedoms for women. The movement grew into an anti-government revolution as the authorities responded with violence. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands arrested.

Ghobadlou is the eleventh Amini protester executed by Iranian authorities since September 2022, according to Hengaw.

Two pro-Iran militiamen killed in airstrike on Syria-Iraq border: Monitor

"Two Iranian-backed militias of non-Syrian nationalities

were confirmed killed, as a result of likely American airstrikes targeting at least one weapons truck on the outskirts of al-Sayal of al-Bukamal in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Britannia-based war monitor.

At least three other holy warriors were maimed and the corpse count is expected to rise, according to SOHR. The strikes targeted a weapons shipment and a warehouse near al-Bukamal, where pro-Iran

According to SOHR, the US has carried out at least 15 attacks on areas where pro-Iran militias maintain a presence in Deir ez-Zor province since the outbreak of the Israel-Gaza war. The strikes have killed at least 27 fighters and have incurred heavy material losses.

IDF says ‘military asset’ belonging to Hezbollah, Iran struck in Lebanon
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it struck a "military asset" belonging to Hezbollah and Iranian forces in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
The strikes apparently come in response to Hezbollah’s missile attack on a sensitive air traffic control base in northern Israel earlier today.

In a statement, the IDF says fighter jets destroyed "a military asset used by the Hezbollah terror organization and operated by Iranian forces."

Other Hezbollah targets were hit today in southern Lebanon, the IDF adds.
