#7  Jodhpurs, in their modern form, are tight-fitting trousers to the ankle, where they end in a snug cuff, and are worn primarily for horse riding.

Originally, jodhpurs were snug fitting from just below the knee to the ankle and were flared at the hip to allow ease for sitting in the saddle. Modern jodhpurs are made with stretch fabric and are tight-fitting throughout. They are supportive and flexible.

#5  For Griter Slash 1619, key bits from the Times of Israel:

War-battered economy plunged almost 20%, marking sharpest contraction since pandemic

With the outbreak of the war, private consumption and investments dropped sharply, while government spending soared amid massive reservist callup and wide population displacements.

Though the war is ongoing, many reservists have returned home and economic activity has begun to recover as rocket fire from Gaza on Israeli cities has trailed off, though only some of that gradual recovery is reflected in the new numbers.

“To a large extent, the current GDP figure, which is an initial estimate, is based on data from the beginning of the quarter, that is October to November data,” said Yonie Fanning, chief strategist at Mizrahi-Tefahot Bank. “The level of local activity continued to recover in December, with the decline in rocket attacks raining on the country.”

“We will see this reflected significantly in the update of the local GDP figures, next month, as more data comes on,” Fanning added.

Moroccan Navy Rescues 141 Migrants off Atlantic Coast
[GoobjoogNews] The Moroccan navy rescued 141 migrants colonists from a flimsy boat off the Atlantic coast on Sunday, the official news agency MAP reported, citing a statement from the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces.

All the migrants colonists, including three women and two minors, were from sub-Saharan African countries. They were rescued in an operation that lasted 15 hours due to unfavorable weather conditions, according to the statement.

The migrants colonists, who departed from the Mauritanian coast on February 10, intended to reach the Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwestern Africa, it added. After their boat was stranded about 274 km off the port of Dakhla, the migrants colonists sent a distress signal that was intercepted by Moroccan authorities.

The migrants colonists were handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie for the usual administrative procedures after receiving necessary care, the statement read.

According to the official statistics, the Moroccan army arrested about 87,000 undocumented migrants colonists in 2023, most of whom were from sub-Saharan Africa.

British Navy reports another attack on a ship off the coast of Yemen, or possibly two
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Another attack on a ship occurred off the coast of Yemen. This was announced on February 19 by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).

It is clarified that UKMTO received information about an incident that occurred 60 nautical miles (about 111 km) north of Djibouti in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Notification of the incident was received from the ship's captain at 21:20 Moscow time.

“The authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident. Vessels are advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the UKMTO,” the document states.

UKMTO classifies the incident as an assault. Additional information has not yet been provided.

Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that the Yemeni Houthis announced on February 19 that they had shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone. In addition, as Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria clarified, the Navy attacked the British ship Rubymar in the Gulf of Aden. It received serious damage.

On the night of January 11–12, the United States and Britain, as part of an international coalition, began a military operation in Yemen. They attacked the positions of the Houthi movement in Yemen. In response, the Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to protest Israeli actions in the Gaza Strip.

Russia categorically condemned the aggression of Western countries against Yemen without appropriate UN sanctions. At a Security Council meeting on January 31, Russia's permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya noted that the actions of Western countries in the Red Sea are reminiscent of the worst times of illegal NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Syria.

British ship Rubymar may sink after Houthi attack

[Regnum] The British ship Rubymar may sink after a Houthi strike, Al Mayadeen TV channel reported on February 19.

“The Yemeni navy carried out a military operation last night against the British ship Rubymar in the Gulf of Aden,” the material says.

The ship was attacked by several missiles, the ship was seriously damaged and could sink. The Rubymar crew evacuated.

The Yemeni Houthis said that the strikes were carried out in support of the Palestinian people, as well as in response to the US-British aggression against Yemen.

Later, Reuters, citing the security service of the Rubymar ship, confirmed that the ship had received serious damage due to an attack by the Houthis in the Gulf of Aden. They also said that the damaged ship was flying the flag of Belize. Its owners are now considering towing options.

As Regnum reported, the Houthis said on February 19 that an air defense system had shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper reconnaissance drone. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saria clarified that the drone was destroyed in Hodeidah by Yemeni air defense forces.

On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
rebels say they targeted two American ships in the Gulf of Aden, after maritime agencies reported a US-owned vessel was attacked twice in those waters.

Houthi naval forces used missiles to target "two American ships in the Gulf of Aden. The first was ’Sea Champion’ and the other was ’Navis Fortuna,'" according to a statement from the group.

US CENTCOM said earlier that the Rubymar, a Belize-flagged, British-registered and Lebanese-managed vessel was damaged yesterday in a Houthi attack.

CENTCOM confirmed that two anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched from Houthi controlled areas of Yemen and targeted the Rubymar yesterday: "One of the missiles struck the vessel, causing damage. The ship issued a distress call and a coalition warship along with another merchant vessel responded to the call to assist the crew of the Rubymar," CENTCOM said on X.

‘From the river to the sea’: 3,000 pro-Palestinian protesters marched in Madrid against Israel Saturday
[IsraelTimes] Waving pro-Paleostinian flags and banners, thousands march through the streets of Madrid Saturday to demand an immediate ceasefire in the deadly war between Israel and Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
The crowd snakes under bright sunshine through closed-off streets in the Spanish capital from Atocha train station to the central Plaza del Sol square behind a large banner that read "Freedom for Paleostine."

Many wave Paleostinian flags or carry signs that read "Peace for Paleostine" and "Don’t ignore Paleostinian suffering."

Six ministers from Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s cabinet took part — all five from hard-left party Sumar, his junior coalition partners, as well as Transport Minister Oscar Puente of the premier’s Socialist party.

"We need an immediate ceasefire, an end to the killing and attacks against innocents, we must achieve the release of all hostages," Puente tells news hounds at the start of the march.

Around 3,000 people are taking part in the demonstration, according to the central government’s delegation to Madrid, a much smaller turnout than the last protest in the Spanish capital on January 27, when some 20,000 participated.

Some chant: "From the river to the sea, Paleostine will be free" — a slogan that critics interpret as a call for the elimination of Israel. Chants of "It’s not a war, it’s genocide" are also heard.

Indiana freelance reporter charged for threatening to ‘kill every Jew’ in Fort Wayne
[IsraelTimes] A freelance news hound based in Fort Wayne, Indiana is facing up to five years in federal prison after allegedly threatening to "kill every Jew" in the city
...that would take a while — there are about 1,000 of them...
and "shoot every pro-Israel US government official,"
...probably even more of them...
according to a federal affidavit filed in court last week.

Jeffrey Stevens, 41, is charged with posting threats using interstate communications, which carries a maximum of five years in federal prison. He was first reported to the FBI after "multiple concerning Facebook posts" following the October 7 Hamas
...not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
assault on Israel, according to the affidavit.

In an interview with the FBI on February 2, Stevens admitted to posting on the CIA’s website that he was going to shoot pro-Israel US government officials, according to the affidavit. He also admitted to sending the Fort Wayne Police Department a message on Facebook saying he would "kill every Jew."

He said during the interview that he was drunk when he posted the messages, the affidavit says.
What kind of mind conceives that as a funny idea when drunk? And thinks the same thing for months?
Stevens is also alleged to have posted that he will "make sure that every CIA member who is pro-Israel is eliminated.”
The field of journalism attracts some who are brilliant, but quite a few who most decidedly are not.

Turkish soldier killed in Kurdistan Region
[Rudaw] A Ottoman Turkish soldier was killed by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Duhok province on Saturday, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire...
’s defense ministry announced, the latest fatality in a deadly winter in the decades-long conflict.

The ministry said PKK fighters "attempted to infiltrate our base area" in what it calls the Claw-Lock Operation region. Private Salih Ay was killed in the ensuing clash and another Ottoman Turkish soldier was injured and is now being treated in hospital.

Six PKK fighters were killed in the clash, according to the ministry.

This is at least the second Ottoman Turkish soldier killed in the Kurdistan Region this month. Another five were killed in January and 12 in December.

Turkey’s Claw-Lock Operation is part of a series of military offensives that started in 2019 against the PKK in northern Duhok province to eradicate the group in its bases in the Kurdistan Region’s mountains. Ottoman Turkish forces have built dozens of outposts within the Kurdistan Region’s borders during its operations.

on Monday said he expects his forces will have "largely completed fortifications" in northern Duhok this summer, "allowing us to take far more effective measures."

The PKK’s armed wing on Saturday said it carried out a successful operation against Ottoman Turkish forces in northern Duhok, seizing weapons and burning tents and supplies. "The hill where the enemy forces were positioned was conquered and completely cleared of the invaders," read a PKK statement published by its affiliated ANF News.

Israeli man charged over ties with Hamas after meeting deputy chief al-Arouri last year
[IsraelTimes] The Shin Bet says a Bedouin man from the southern town of Hura has been charged for his alleged ties to Hamas

, including meeting the terror group’s deputy chief Saleh al-Arouri in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
last year

Osama Alokbi and his wife Samah were detained by police in January, the security agency says.

The Shin Bet says evidence found at Alokbi’s home revealed his affiliation with Hamas, as well as the fact that he transferred tens of thousands of shekels to the terror group in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. over a number of years.

It says that the investigation also revealed that Alokbi transferred donation funds for mosques in the Negev to Hamas.

Alokbi maintained contact with senior Hamas officials abroad and met with them several times in Turkey, the Shin Bet says, charging that he brought his wife with him as a cover story of a couple’s trip.

The agency says Alokbi would raise funds in his meetings with Hamas officials for his activities in the Negev.

According to the Shin Bet, during his last trip to Turkey in June 2023, Alokbi participated in a "small forum" of Hamas officials, including al-Arouri, who was killed in an alleged Israeli strike in Beirut in January.

Alokbi, who previously was a member of the outlawed Islamic Movement’s northern branch,

was known to authorities as "someone who identifies with an extreme ideology against the State of Israel and its institutions and is even involved in delivering sermons in mosques and postings on social networks, while encouraging participation in violent mostly peaceful activity at the al-Aqsa Mosque," the Shin Bet says.

Alokbi has been charged with "contact with a foreign agent" and use of property for terror purposes.

Police catch suspect with shoulder-mounted missile launcher, grenades
[IsraelTimes] Cops in northern Israel nabbed an East Jerusalem man with an anti-tank missile launcher, grenades and ammunition in his car on Friday night, police say in a statement.

The arrest took place after special forces unit operating to stymie arms smuggling stopped the man’s car near Karmiel Junction in northern Israel.

Inside they discovered a Matador shoulder-mounted anti-tank missile launcher, nine grenades and over 1,000 rounds of belted magnum bullets of unspecified caliber. The launcher and ammo both have Hebrew markings, indicating they came from the Israeli military.

Israeli man lightly wounded after car comes under attack near Homesh in West Bank, residents riot
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli man is lightly maimed after an bomb was allegedly hurled at his vehicle by Paleostinians, near the illegal West Bank outpost of Homesh, medics say.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service says the 25-year-old was slightly hurt by glass shards following the blast, between Homesh and Shavei Shomron.

According to the Samaria Regional Council, five people, residents of the outpost, were in the car when it came under attack.

Images from the scene show the damaged car, with several shattered windows.

The IDF says troops are scanning the area for suspects behind the attack.

Settlers riot in Palestinian West Bank village after terror attack, says rights group

[IsraelTimes] Footage of cars set alight in the Paleostinian village of Burqa in the northern West Bank emerges following the alleged Paleostinian terror attack which took place close to the nearby illegal Homesh outpost.

The Yesh Din organization, which advocates against the settlement movement, says that residents of Burqa are reporting that Israeli settlers are rioting in the village and committing numerous acts of arson, and that some residents have been injured in the violence.

According to Yesh Din, residents say that IDF forces are currently preventing Paleostinian emergency services from reaching the area.

The official Paleostinian news agency Wafa reports that "colonists" threw Molotov cocktails at a home, setting it ablaze along with a vehicle parked next to it, adding that the road between Burqa and nearby Sebastia has been closed by the IDF.

The IDF says the rioters have dispersed and that it is looking into the reports of vandalism and arson in Burqa, saying it is unaware of any injuries in the incident.

Israeli forces arrest Palestinians across occupied West Bank
[GEO.TV] Israeli forces have arrested a number of Paleostinians in various parts of the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera reported on Monday.

They rounded up two Paleostinian men in West Bank’s Qalqilya city, the Wafa news agency reported.

Wafa said two other Paleostinians were arrested in Nablus, while a man and his son were nabbed in the town of Beit Rima, northwest of Ramallah. Another arrest of a man was reported from the city of Bethlehem.

Despite international pleas urging Israel to reconsider and prioritise the safety of Paleostinians in Gaza's southern city, the Israeli authorities remain resolute.

The United States, along with other nations and the UN, is actively appealing for a cessation of Israel's planned assault on Rafah, as hopes for successful truce negotiations dwindle.

Israel contends that Rafah, situated on the border with Egypt, represents the last stronghold of Hamas in Gaza.

Qassam Brigades attacks Israeli Forces in Khan Younis
“The better to find you with, my dears.” Y’all just keep popping up so the IDF can more easily shoot you down.

The group reported employing anti-personnel shells against a 15-member Israeli unit taking refuge in a house.

In a statement, the Qassam Brigades declared that their fighters confirmed the Israeli soldiers' casualties, with some falling between dead and injured.

The statement noted the audible screams of the soldiers as the area ignited in flames during the confrontation.

Police officers seal off East Jerusalem home of suspect in Friday’s fatal terror shooting ahead of demolition
[IsraelTimes] Police officers sealed the East Jerusalem home of a Paleostinian terrorist who allegedly carried out a shooting attack in southern Israel on Friday afternoon, killing two Israelis.

The move comes ahead of plans to demolish the home of Fadi Jamjoum, in East Jerusalem’s Shuafat.

In the Friday attack at Re’em junction, Jamjoum shot up people at a bus station, killing Yishai Gartner, 23, and IDF reservist Sgt. First Class (res.) Ori Yaish, 27, before being rubbed out by another off-duty reservist.

Police say the commander of the Jerusalem District, Doron Turgeman, ordered the demolition of Jamjoum’s home.

Sealing the homes of attackers is often a replacement or stopgap for demolishing them. In general, the demolition process takes several months, as the home needs to be mapped out, the High Court must address appeals by the family, and security forces often wait for an optimal time to enter Paleostinian cities or neighborhoods for the operation.

Jamjoum’s home was cleared of his family by officers before it was sealed after they had received a warrant to do so, police say.

Police say festivities erupted amid the operation, with Paleostinians hurling stones and Molotov cocktails at the officers, who responded with riot dispersal means.

Jordan says 5 drug traffickers killed along Syrian border
[Rudaw] The Jordanian army on Sunday said its border forces killed five narcos and injured four others as they were attempting to smuggle narcotics from Syria.

Amman has strengthened its crackdown on drug trafficking from neighboring Syria which has turned into a regional narcotic hub following over a decade of civil war.

"The Eastern military district, in coordination with the military security services and the anti-narcotics administration, thwarted, at dawn on Sunday... an attempt to infiltrate and smuggle large quantities of narcotic substances coming from Syrian territory," a statement from the Jordanian Armed Forces read.

The statement added that five traffickers were killed, four others were maimed, while a "large quantity" of drugs were seized.

The operation comes a day after the interior ministers of Jordan, Iraq, Syria, and Leb

[Regnum] A US military base near the Koniko gas field in Syria came under a missile attack, the Mehr News news agency reported on February 19, citing a local source.

Four missiles were fired at a US military base near the Koniko field in Syria
Unidentified people hit the facility, which is located in the province of Deir ez-Zor in the east of the country, with four missiles. After this attack, a fire started on the base.

As Regnum reported, on February 8 it became known that the US military base at the Omar oil field in the province of Deir ez-Zor was attacked by four missiles. Then explosions occurred on the territory of the facility, and combat helicopters took to the sky.

On February 10, Reuters reported that the air defense forces of the US-led coalition prevented six unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks on a US base near the Conoco oilfield.

The Sky News Arabia television channel clarified that members of one of the Shiite groups in Iraq were allegedly behind the attack.

SDF kills two Turkish-backed militants in Manbij: Monitor
[Rudaw] At least two Ottoman Turkish-backed Death Eaters were killed during festivities with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) near the northern Syrian city of Manbij on Monday, a war monitor reported.

"Two members of the pro-The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
factions were killed and others were maimed after violent mostly peaceful festivities broke out with the forces of the Manbij Military Council... near al-Sayadah village in western Manbij countryside," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a Britannia-based war monitor.

The Manbij Military Council is a local Kurdish-led force affiliated with the SDF in Arab-majority Manbij. Security in Kurdish-controlled areas in north and northeast Syria is managed through military councils led by locals to maintain the delicate balance of the region and prevent Arab discontent.

The festivities come amid an increased surge of violence near Manbij between Kurdish-led forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed Death Eaters, according to SOHR

Turkey has long viewed strategic Manbij, located at a crossroads connecting Aleppo, Raqqa, and the Kurdish-administered northeast, as a key zone to launch its next military operation in northern Syria to seize from Kurdish forces.

labeled the city and Tal Rifaat as Ankara’s next targets in order to complete its long-desired 30-kilometer "safe zone" along the southern border.

Turkey accuses the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG), the backbone of the SDF, of being the Syrian front for the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Ankara has carried out three military operations against Kurdish forces in northern Syria since 2016, invading key towns near the border such as Afrin, Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain), and Gire Spi (Tal Abyad).
