#3  Actually from the late 19th century until about 1950 society at large had no problem with what you see right there and a bit nore even. Then cinema and TV came along and the censorship board came along with that.

Now, tech makes it easy to make incredibly tasteless stuff. It's all about how you disseminate it.

Khartoum activists blame RSF for deadly shelling in Al-Jarif
[SUDANTRIBUNE] At least 13 people were killed and others injured in artillery shelling that struck Al-Jarif’s eastern Hab Al-Naseem neighbourhood on Thursday. The Al-Jarif Emergency Room confirmed the casualties but did not assign blame.

Local activists believe the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are responsible. They allege the RSF, which controls much of the eastern Nile region, fired on a residential area where a social gathering was taking place. This resulted in civilian casualties, including women and children.

Speaking anonymously to the Sudan Tribune, a resident claimed the RSF had previously banned gatherings in the area. They believe the shelling aimed to displace residents.

The eastern Nile has been tense for the past two months following clashes between the RSF and the Sudanese army. The RSF currently controls most of the region.

Communication and internet services in Khartoum have been largely unavailable since February, further straining the population.

The conflict between the military and the RSF nears its first anniversary. Both sides prioritize military victory, ignoring international, regional, and local pleas for a ceasefire and negotiations.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard seizes Israeli-linked ship near Strait of Hormuz
[NYPOST] Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps seized an Israeli-linked container ship near the Strait of Hormuz in the latest escalation of the simmering standoff between the two countries.

An unverified video of the incident first obtained by the Associated Press showed IRGC commandos rappelling onto the MSC Aries vessel, the Times of Israel reported.

“Don’t come out,” a crew member on the ship can be heard saying in the footage, which was also posted on X by Times of Israel reporter Mannie Fabian.

The crew member can then be heard telling another to head to the ship’s bridge, as more IRGC commanders were rappelling onto the desk.

One commando is seen kneeling over the others to protect them from potential cover fire, the Times of Israel reported.

Europe
German police shut down pro-Palestinian gathering over hate speech concerns
[IsraelTimes] Authorities cut power after banned speaker appears via video link; British-Palestinian surgeon who spoke at ceremony for terror leader says Germany denied him entry to attend event

German police cut the power and shut down a conference of pro-Palestinian activists on Friday after a banned speaker appeared by video link, organizers said.

The three-day Palestine Congress, promoted by pro-Palestinian groups including former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis’s DIEM25 party, said it aimed to raise awareness of what it called Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.

The police banned the final two days of the event, citing concern about the potential for hate speech.

Among the speakers was activist Salman Abu Sitta, author of a January essay that expressed understanding for the Hamas terrorists who carried out the devastating October 7 attack on southern Israel in which some 1,200 were killed and a further 253 men, women and children taken hostage to Gaza.

“A speaker was projected who was subject to a ban on political activity,” Berlin police said on social media. “There is a risk of a speaker being put on screen who in the past made antisemitic and violence-glorifying remarks. The gathering was ended and banned on Saturday and Sunday.”

Organizers of the conference said police intervened when Salman, who according to Stern magazine was banned from entering Germany, began speaking on video.

“The police violence, like we were some sort of criminals, was unbearable for a democratic country,” said Karin de Rigo, a parliamentary candidate for the German offshoot of DIEM25. “They not only stormed the stage, they cut the power like we were transmitting violence.”

In Germany as in other Western countries, Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza has stirred growing popular opposition as the Palestinian death toll has mounted.

Shortly after October 7, the German government implemented a formal ban on activity by or in support of Hamas.

Germany’s backing for Israel is rooted in a desire to atone for the genocide of Europe’s Jews in the Nazi Holocaust. The presence of a large, growing Muslim and Arab population in Germany has made the tension particularly acute.

Many protesters have complained that expressions of solidarity with Palestinians are effectively criminalized by authorities on alert for antisemitism.

“It is right and necessary that the Berlin police intervened firmly at the so-called Palestine Congress,” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser posted on social media. She earlier had urged police to be on guard for signs of hate speech at the congress.

Meanwhile, a prominent British-Palestinian surgeon who volunteered in Gaza hospitals during the first weeks of the Israel-Hamas war said he was denied entry to Germany on Friday to take part in the conference.

Abu Sitta said he arrived at Berlin’s airport on Friday morning before being stopped at passport control, where he was held for several hours and then told he had to return to the UK.

Airport police said he was refused entry due to “the safety of the people at the conference and public order,” Abu Sitta told The Associated Press by phone. There was no immediate comment from German federal police.

The UK’s Jewish Chronicle reported last year that Abu Sitta spoke at a Beirut ceremony on the anniversary of the death of a founder of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), Maher Al-Yamani.

The report said Abu Sitta wept as he “hailed the late terror group founder for his success at striking fear into the hearts of Israelis.”

Terrorists from the PFLP participated in the devastating October 7 attack.

On October 8, Abu Sitta promoted a social media post which said Gazans should “fight back and die in dignity” as they were “going to die anyway,” the UK’s Jewish News reported.

Mavi Marmara 2: New aid flotilla to sail from Turkey to 'break siege' of Gaza - report
[JPost] The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa, and should leave for Gaza on Monday.

Turkey is set to send a flotilla to Gaza on Monday, bringing 5,500 tons of aid to "break the siege" on the Gaza Strip, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

The flotilla itself is organized by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), a group of 12 NGOs from countries such as the US, Turkey, and South Africa.

The organization is backed by Fehmi Bulent Yildirim, a Turkish humanitarian activist and president of the Turkish NGO IHH.
IHH is a charitable branch of the the Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey, very close to president Erdogan’s government.
In a press conference, Yildirim said the flotilla will include ships from Turkey, Lebanon, and Libya and will sail to Rafah after first docking at El-Arish in Egypt, Ynet reported.

According to a Globes report, the flotilla will also include Zwelivelile "Mandla" Mandela, the grandson of former South African president Nelson Mandela, and Aleida Guevara, the daughter of Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.

Ynet claimed that Turkish authorities would approve the flotilla, and the country's intelligence chief was involved in arranging it.

This would be the latest of many aid flotillas launched by Turkish groups to Gaza. The most notable of these in the past was the Mavi Marmara incident in 2010. At the time, Israeli commandos raided the ship and ended up killing several Turkish civilians who were part of the flotilla. The Mavi Marmara incident was a landmark moment in Israeli-Turkish relations, which became severely strained at the time and have yet to fully recover 14 years later.

That flotilla was also organized by IHH, with Yildirim himself having been on board. He was arrested by the IDF and deported.

In the past, IHH has also been accused of aiding or having links to different extremist groups. This includes multiple accusations of links to al-Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

#6  So … four waves of 100 Shaheed drones each to identify and deplete the ADA assets. Then 30 cruise missiles and 8 hypersonic timed to arrive with the last wave of (jet powered drones). That suggests at least 438 interceptor rockets used expended to interdict the attack (ballpark 1.2 billion dollars?). How many times can Israel endure such strikes (with the aid of US, UK, Jordan and Egypt helping shoot down incoming) before the cupboard is bare. And now there is even more intense competition between Ukraine and Israel to obtain the limited number of ADA missiles in the pipeline.

Just thinking out loud, I would expect that some of the drones would be vulnerable to anti-aircraft cannon fire. Not disputing G-T's back of the envelope calculations.

In the current Rus vs Ukr situation, electronic warfare has played a role in drone defense. No idea of Israeli capabilities, but I suspect they have been paying attention.

#50  In addition to intel gathered during the recon by fire conducted overnight, prior to the attack the Iranians seized the MSC Aries carrying 1300 TEUs value exceeding $50M from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, Exxon Mobil, and Dow Chemical.
Algeria (237 TEUs and $10M worth of goods)
Belgium (409 TEUs - $15M worth)
Egypt (211 TEUs - $12M worth)
Greece (319 TEUs - $10M worth)
India (255 TEUs - $10.6M worth)
Italy (238 TEUs - $14M worth)
Turkey (514 TEUs worth $22M)
It should be noted that Israel was a minimal country named as the destination for these goods, with only 21 TEUs identified onboard, worth approximately $3M.

Iran will probably extort $ X from the owners for safe return of the ship and cargo to cover a potion of the cost of ordnance expended during the drone/missile attack...

Body of Israeli teen found in West Bank; IDF says he was murdered in terror attack
[IsraelTimes] Benjamin Achimeir, 14, went missing while shepherding near outpost; settlers clash with Palestinians; amid concerns death could ignite West Bank, PM says citizens must let security forces work unhindered

The Israel Defense Forces on Saturday found the body of a 14-year-old Israeli who went missing while shepherding in the West Bank a day earlier, as renewed clashes were reported between settlers and Palestinians.

Jerusalem resident Benjamin Achimeir was murdered in a terror attack, the IDF and Shin Bet security agency said in a joint statement.

According to the IDF, Achimeir set out in the early morning hours of Friday from a farm near the outpost of Malachei Shalom to go shepherding. Hours later, the sheep returned to “Gal Farm” without him.

Malachei Shalom is located near the West Bank town of al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah.

Achimeir’s body was spotted on Saturday morning by a drone operated by the Border Defense Corps’ 636th Combat Intelligence Collection unit, close to the farm where he initially went missing.

The murder was believed to have been carried out by Palestinian terrorists, and taken place in the late morning hours or early afternoon of Friday, according to an initial investigation.

Next to the teen’s body, troops found his personal belongings that were handed over to police for investigation.

“Security forces are continuing the pursuit of those suspected of carrying out the attack,” the IDF and Shin Bet said, adding that they “send their heartfelt condolences to the family.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “the heinous murder” of Achimeir was a “serious crime.”

“I send my heartfelt condolences to his family,” Netanyahu also said in a statement published by his office.

“We will get the murderers and those who helped them, as we do to anyone who harms the citizens of the State of Israel,” the statement continued.

Security experts have long warned that Hamas wishes to ignite tensions in the West Bank, with concerns that settler reprisals could play into the terror group’s hands.

To that end, Netanyahu also added that he “calls on all citizens of Israel to allow the security forces to do their work unhindered.”

Amid the searches Friday, Israeli settlers rampaged in al-Mughayyir. The settlers set fire to houses and cars and sparked clashes between Palestinians and Israeli soldiers, in which a Palestinian man was killed and dozens of others injured.

The deceased man was identified by his family as 26-year-old Jehad Abu Alia.

Renewed clashes between settlers and Palestinians were reported on Saturday in the towns of Beitin and Duma, close to Ramallah.

Rights group reports at least 10 Palestinian villages under attack by settlers

[IsraelTimes] The Yesh Din rights group reports that at least 10 Palestinian villages in the West Bank are currently under attack by Israeli settlers.

  • Al-Mughayyir: Settlers opened fire, torched cars and wounded Palestinians.

  • Duma: Settlers opened fire, torched cars and wounded Palestinians.

  • As-Sawiya: Settlers hurl stones, damaging five homes and several vehicles.

  • Qusra: Settlers torch six homes and four vehicles in addition to other vandalism in the village.

  • Beitin: Settlers torch a car.

  • Silwad: Settlers block the village’s main road, throwing stones at vehicles, which damage several of them.

  • Sinjil: Settlers hurl stones at homes, damaging five of them.

  • Beitillu: Settlers hurl stones at homes, damaging several of them.

  • Turmusaya: Settlers vandalize three vehicles and two homes

  • Beit Furik: Settlers damage several houses and injure one Palestinian.
IDF says calm restored to West Bank after nearly a dozen villages reportedly attacked by settlers
About 6:30 p.m. Israel time.
[IsraelTimes] The IDF and Border Police are deploying more troops to the West Bank following violence by settlers against Palestinians, after the murder of an Israeli teenager.

The military says “clashes developed” between Israelis and Palestinians at several locations in the West Bank, during which stones were hurled and shots were fired, avoiding pointing a finger at the settlers who were widely blamed to have instigated the clashes by ransacking nearly a dozen different villages throughout the West Bank.

Dozens of Israelis and Palestinians were injured in the incidents, the IDF says.

The military says “many forces” were deployed to the sites of the clashes and used riot dispersal means. “As of now, all the incidents have ended,” the IDF says.

“Along with the forces deployed to the area, it was decided to reinforce [the area] with several IDF and Border Police companies,” the army says.

The IDF says it is continuing a manhunt for the terrorists who murdered 14-year-old Benjamin Achimeir.

Chronicle: Iran's war against Israel
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 22:52 Israel closed its airspace for three hours, starting at 1 am. Jordan previously closed its skies to civil aviation. Iran announced this in Tehran.

TsAGAL confirmed the Iranian drone launch, saying the army is familiar with the threat and knows how to deal with it.

23:19 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the evening of Saturday, April 13, addressed the country's citizens about the Iranian attack, saying that Israel had been preparing for this for years. In the address, the Israeli Prime Minister said that the country is ready for a direct attack from Iran, both defensively and offensively, and will retaliate.

“I have established a clear principle - whoever harms us, we will harm him. We will defend ourselves against any threat, and we will do so calmly and decisively,” Netanyahu concluded.

23:40 Iran confirmed the launch of a UAV and announced the earliest possible launch of a missile attack on Israel, the Iranian Fars agency reports.

23:42 Jordan is ready to intercept drones and missiles that fly through its territory in the direction of Israel, reports Reuters.
Whoa! Who had that on their Israel Bingo card for this year?
23:45 The White House said Biden's team is in constant communication with Israeli officials, as well as other partners and allies. "President Biden has made it clear: Our support for Israel's security is ironclad. The United States will stand with the people of Israel and support the defense against these threats from Iran," the statement said.

23:59 Information appeared in the Arab media that an explosion was heard in the center of Tehran.
Oh? How very interesting.
14th of April
00:07 Jordan has opened its airspace to Israeli Air Force fighters.
*Boggle* I guess that peace treaty really means something.
00:08 Israel has begun intercepting Iranian drones over Syria and Jordan, Israeli Channel 12 reported.

00:22 The Iranian Ministry of Defense said that any country that opens its territory or airspace to Israeli attacks on Iran "will receive our direct response."

00:24 Between 400 and 500 drones and missiles will be launched into Israel from Iraq, Syria, southern Lebanon and Yemen, but the bulk will be launched from Iran, ABC NEWS reports.

00:37 Air defense begins operating in Tel Aviv. Videos of air defense missiles flying over are appearing on social networks.

00:44 Arab media report the first launches of Iranian ballistic missiles towards Israel.

00:58 British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that London will continue to defend the security of Israel and all regional partners, including Jordan and Iraq.

01:05 Iranian oppositionists condemn the attack on Israel and call for an uprising. Prominent Iranian opposition figures have denounced Iran's drone attack on Israel as contrary to the will of the majority of Iranians, whom they urge to oppose the regime of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In particular, Iran's Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, who lives in exile in the United States, came out with condemnation.

01:25 Israeli media quote Israeli officials as saying that there is no information yet that ballistic missiles were launched from Iran at Israel.

01:27 The United States shot down a number of Iranian UAVs heading towards Israel, ABC reports.
Thank you, America!
01:46 The Israeli publication Times Of Israel, citing a representative of the Israeli defense department, reported that more than a hundred Iranian UAVs have already been intercepted by the US and British military outside Israeli airspace.
And thanks to the Brits, too!
01:51 Alarm signals are sounding in many cities in Israel, including Jerusalem.

01:55 Iran's mission to the UN says it considers the attack on Israel "complete." “The case can be considered completed,” the message says. "However, if the Israeli regime makes another mistake, Iran's response will be much stricter."
This space intentionally left blank.
2:29 Amman media reports that debris from an Iranian missile shot down by air defense forces over Jordanian Amman fell on the city.

2:31 Celebrations continue in Tehran regarding the attack on Israel. Hundreds of people with Iranian flags took to the streets of the city at night.
Hundreds? Golly. Still, it was the middle of the night, and they’re all exhausted waiting for Israel’s blow to fall.

IDF: Israeli Air Force is on alert, dozens of aircraft are in the sky
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Rear Admiral and head of the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Daniel Hagari said on April 13 that the defense and attack systems of the country's Air Force are on alert - dozens of aircraft are in the sky. He told reporters about this at a briefing.

According to Hagari, the IDF assessed the situation and agreed on plans to prepare for an attack from Iran.

“We are assessing the situation with our strategic partners, primarily the United States, and maintaining close coordination with them,” Hagari assured.

As Regnum reported, the United States assumes that Iran may attack Israeli territory in response to the attack on its consulate in Syrian Damascus in the early morning of April 14, Al Jazeera warned, citing a representative of the American administration.

On April 13, US President Joseph Biden interrupted his day off and returned from his residence in Delaware to the White House due to the worsening situation in the Middle East. He intends to hold consultations with his national security aides, the American leader noted in the pool.

On the evening of April 1, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced an Israeli airstrike on the Iranian consulate building in Damascus. According to a source in the Iranian publication Tasnim, at least five people were killed and 12 more were injured in the attack. One of the dead was a commander from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Mohammad Reza Zahedi.

Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi promised on April 2 to respond to Israel's attack on the consulate. He condemned the actions of the Israeli military and called them an “inhumane” attack, as well as a clear violation of international law.

IDF eliminates Hamas terrorist who took control of aid trucks in Gaza
[Jpost] In a joint IDF and Shin Bet operation on Thursday, an IAF aircraft eliminated Hamas military operative Ridwan Mohammed Abdallah Ridwan, who was responsible for Hamas' internal security operations in Jabalia, the IDF said on Friday morning.

Ridwan's role in the terrorist organization included giving orders to Hamas operatives, where he would direct armed terrorists to take control of humanitarian aid trucks that were located in the northern Gaza Strip.

According to the IDF, "his elimination degrades Hamas' capabilities to attack and take control of humanitarian aid in the area of Jabalia," located in Northern Gaza.

Another Hamas terrorist, identified as Hamed Muhammad Ali Ahmed, was also eliminated by the IDF.

Ahmed was a Hamas military commander responsible for internal security operations in the same area of Jabalia.

Car bomb explodes in Damascus embassy district; no reports of injuries
[IsraelTimes] An explosive device detonated in a car in an upscale neighborhood of Damascus, Syrian state media says, quoting a police source.

Security incidents, including blasts targeting military or civilian vehicles, occur intermittently in Damascus.

It is not immediately clear who was responsible for the blast or who it targeted.

But it came with tensions high in Syria’s capital after Iran vowed retaliation for a strike on a building in the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital of Damascus, which killed several Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders, including two generals. Tehran has blamed Israel for the strike.

“The explosion heard a short while ago in the Mazzeh area resulted from an explosive device detonating in a car in al-Huda square,” Syria’s official SANA news agency says, quoting a Damascus police command source.

It adds that there were no injuries.

The incident happened in the Mazzeh area, where Iran’s embassy and other foreign missions are located.

[Regnum] The naval forces of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized the commercial ship MSC Aries in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian state agency IRNA reports.

According to the Associated Press, the Portuguese-flagged vessel is associated with London-based Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer's Zodiac Group.
